JOHNSON CITY (May 26, 2020) – East Tennessee State University alumnus Ryan Lynch is among 133 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) candidates nationwide to earn the 2019 Elijah Watt Sells Award.
The Elijah Watt Sells Award program was established by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) in 1923 to recognize outstanding performance on the CPA Exam. Elijah Watt Sells was one of the first CPAs in the U.S., was active in the establishment of the AICPA and played a large role advancing professional education within the profession.

Dr. Davey Smith (’96) is leading a clinical trial that is currently underway to evaluate whether the malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, given with the antibiotic azithromycin, can prevent hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

JOHNSON CITY (May 22, 2020) – The George L. Carter Railroad Museum on the campus of East Tennessee State University has canceled the 5th Annual Big Train Show for the health and safety of patrons, vendors, and model railroad enthusiasts.
The train show, originally scheduled for June 5-6 in the ETSU Ballad Health Athletic Center (Mini Dome), has steadily become one of the largest in the southeastern United States and the most anticipated show for rail fans and model railroaders in the region. JOHNSON CITY (May 18, 2020) – The ETSU Health Osteoporosis Center will offer free osteoporosis screenings every Thursday in June to support osteoporosis awareness in the community and in recognition of Osteoporosis Month, celebrated during May.
The free dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans will include one hip and the spine, with interpretation. This non-invasive test measures bone mineral density to assess its strength.
The ETSU Health Osteoporosis Center, located at 2109 W. Market St., Room 143, promotes research; provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive services; and facilitates educational opportunities for the public and health care professionals.

JOHNSON CITY – (May 12, 2020) Future teachers who are part of the Class of 2020 at East Tennessee State University moved to the head of the class with their scores on the edTPA assessment. edTPA is a national performance-based assessment for students seeking initial licensure. Some states, including Tennessee, require its teachers to have a passing score on edTPA for licensure.

The program will be offered through the Clemmer College and coincides with the launching of ETSU’s new esports varsity team which was announced last December.
According to Dr. Natalie Smith, the esports industry is booming, yet there are only 20 or less academic programs in the country.
