JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – East Tennessee State University recently received a report that reveals student voting increased significantly during last year’s presidential election, rising from 46.8% in 2016 to 64.3% in 2020 for a total 17.5% increase overall.
The report comes from the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE), founders of the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement, or NSLVE.
The study’s authors report that nationwide, college communities are seeing record-number voter turnout. Educational institutions across the nation saw a national average of 66% voter turnout during the 2020 presidential election, a notable increase from the 52% …

An interprofessional team of students, faculty and staff from East Tennessee State University’s five health sciences colleges volunteered at the Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic in Gray Nov. 5-7.
This was the fifth year that ETSU sent a team to Gray to help deliver free medical, dental and vision services to people of the region.
The ETSU Health volunteers represented Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, Quillen College of Medicine, College of Public Health, College of Nursing and College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences.

(Nov. 22, 2021) Master’s degree student Emily Napier won East Tennessee State University’s recent 2021 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition with a presentation on “The Instructor-Student Relationship: An Interpersonal Perspective.”
This competition, created at the University of Queensland, Australia, provides graduate students the opportunity to develop professional presentation and research communication skills. Participants condense complex research projects into engaging, three-minute presentations designed for a general audience using just one slide. Audience members learn what students in master’s and doctoral programs are studying and gain insight into the future of research, design and innovation in a variety of disciplines.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 14, 2021) – ETSU Health has several initiatives underway to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and honor those who are battling cancer.
“Approximately one in eight women will face breast cancer in their lifetime. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has affected routine screenings and reconstruction opportunities for many patients,” said Dr. Alicia Billington, an ETSU Health plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has helped lead the awareness efforts. “We are hoping our efforts to promote awareness encourage patients to get their screening imaging and exams.”
