The Mediating Effects Of Perceived Value Between The Relationship Of Social Media Marketing And Purchase Intention, Tyron W. Yap
DLSU Business & Economics Review
The objective of this study is to test the mediating role of the dimensions of perceived value—conditional, epistemic, monetary, social, convenience, and emotional—between the relationship of social media marketing and purchase intention, in online hotel booking sites. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was employed to test all 19 hypotheses. Results revealed that social media marketing positively and significantly influences the dimensions of perceived value, as well as purchase intention. Also, convenience value and conditional value are positively and significantly related to purchase intention. In terms of the mediating effects, it was found that both convenience value and conditional …

Are Emotionally Stable Employees More Ready To Change? The Moderating Role Of Emotional Stability On The Effect Of Organizational Culture Types On Individual Readiness For Change, Aktsar Hamdi Tsalits, Gugup Kismono, Luksi Visita, Dian Eka Mayasari
DLSU Business & Economics Review
Organizational culture is suggested as a significant predictor of individual readiness for change (IRFC). However, few studies examining the effect of organizational culture types on individual readiness for change showed inconsistent results. This study aims to fill the gap, specifically by testing the moderating effect of emotional stability on the effect of perceived organizational culture types (clan and adhocracy) on individual readiness for change. We obtained 264 responses from employees who worked at the SM Company, one of the companies in Indonesia that performed a change in the company. Results of moderated regression analysis on the collected data indicate support …

À La Carte Cable: A Regulatory Solution To The Misinformation Subsidy, Christopher R. Terry, Eliezer J. Silberberg, Stephen Schmitz, John Stack, Eve Sando
Catholic University Journal of Law and Technology
Although “fake news” is as old as mass media itself, concerns over disinformation have reached a fever pitch in our current media environment. Online media outlets’ heavy reliance on user-generated content has altered the traditional gatekeeping functions and professional standards associated with traditional news organizations. The idea of objectivity-focused informational content has primarily been substituted for a realist acceptance of the power and popularity of opinion-driven “news.” This shift is starkly visible now: mainstream news media outlets knowingly spread hoaxes, conspiracy theories, and the like.
This current state of affairs is not some freak accident. The Supreme Court’s First Amendment …

DLSU Business & Economics Review
This paper focused on reemphasizing the original purpose of the annual report which lies in its use as a medium of communication between preparers and users; whereby the former report stewardship while the latter evaluate stewardship to make buy/sell/hold decisions. To achieve this objective, opinions were collected from a sample of 150 preparers and users of annual reports, while the contents of 100 annual reports from 20 listed firms over a period of 5 years were also analyzed. The result showed that the preparers and users of annual reports agree that such content as advertisements and images, as well as …
Invited Perspective - Engaging Aspirations To Nurture Communities, Kentaro Toyama
Invited Perspective - Engaging Aspirations To Nurture Communities, Kentaro Toyama
Subsistence Marketplaces
For subsistence communities, the question is whether aspirations can be applied to motivate behavior that is, on the one hand consistent with people’s aspirations, but which might otherwise be difficult to elicit. Could poorer households be encouraged to save, to spend more on their children’s education, or to act against unhealthy social norms? A couple of examples suggest this is not only possible, but highly successful in contexts where other appeals fail.
Representing Africa In The ‘Coming To America’ Films, Samuel K. Bonsu, Delphine Godefroit-Winkel
Representing Africa In The ‘Coming To America’ Films, Samuel K. Bonsu, Delphine Godefroit-Winkel
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
Through an interpretive analysis of the two Eddie Murphy films "Coming to America" (CTA) and "Coming 2 America", spaced nearly 30 years apart, this review essay underscores the persistence of Orientalist Othering of Africa. The negative images of Africa that are so engrained in people have been facilitated in significant part by a strategic, but perhaps unconscious, effort to socialize audiences into an identity construction process that casts Africans as inferior. Despite attempts at favorable depictions of Africa, these processes continue to play out.
When We See Us: Coming 2 America And The Intricacies Of Black Representation And Diasporic Conversation, Terri Bowles
When We See Us: Coming 2 America And The Intricacies Of Black Representation And Diasporic Conversation, Terri Bowles
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
This is a review essay of the film Coming 2 America (2021) by Craig Brewer, a follow-up to the 1988 comedy classic Coming to America , which stars Eddie Murphy as a newly crowned African king confronted with shifting family dynamics and evolving challenges to his royal authority. The review examines the cultural space occupying the 30 years that separate the first film and its sequel, and interrogates the structures of popular film and comedy that situate representational discourses of gender and diasporic Black representation.

Nomadland: The New Frontiers Of The American Dream At The Periphery Of The Market, Aleksandrina Atanasova, Giana Eckhardt
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
This Dialogue contribution is based around the film Nomadland, which won five Oscars, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress. Nomadland, a captivating ode to resisting market logics of accumulation, delivers a gripping image of what life looks like in the absence of possessions. Navigating between the extremes of lack and social displacement, and community and newfound ability to live life with little, the nomads find ways to live in the face of despair and disenchantment. Nomadland is a critique of the death of the American dream while at the same time a story of solidarity amongst the dispossessed.

The Impact Of Adaptive Learning In Principles Of Microeconomics, Doris S. Bennett, Cynthia S. Mccarty, Michael S. Carter
Southwestern Business Administration Journal
Abstract
The spread of Covid-19, which forced almost all learning to move to online in March, 2020, abruptly increased the number of undergraduates taking at least one online course by approximately 177% between the fall of 2019 and the spring of 2020 (Koksal, 2020; Carey, 2020; National Center for Education Statistics, 2020). Even without the Covid-19 disruption, online education has become increasing prevalent due to the decreasing allocation of resources to higher education and the pressure on college administrators to make a college education effective, affordable, and accessible for more students. Originally online instruction differed from in-class instruction only be …

Assessing Equity Based Mutual Funds And Stock Market Indices In India Using The Engle-Granger Cointegration Technique, Neha Gupta, Pooja Mathur, Satyendra P. Singh
DLSU Business & Economics Review
Mutual funds are one of the most suitable investment alternatives for common investors. Mutual funds are affordable, professionally managed, transparent, and at the same time, offer a wide gamut of schemes to invest in. They can generate superior returns and, at the same time, reduce risk through the diversification of the portfolio. Out of various schemes offered by mutual funds, equity funds are quite popular among investors because of their ability to generate higher returns. They not only generate higher returns but also sometimes beat the market. As the portfolio of equity-based mutual funds consists of equity shares, the movement …

Investigating The Influence Of Consumption Values On Healthy Eating Choices: The Moderating Role Of Healthy Food Awareness, Aleem Raza, Mubasher Akram, Muhammad Asif
DLSU Business & Economics Review
The purpose of the study was to empirically investigate the extent to which consumption values influence consumers’ healthy eating choices. By using the theory of consumption values, the study also attempts to explain the role of healthy food awareness as a moderating variable in consumers’ healthy eating choices. The quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaire from 320 participants. The data were analyzed by using structured equation modeling. The results revealed that consumers’ healthy eating choices are strongly linked to emotional and epistemic values. The study also found a positive relationship between conditional value and consumers’ healthy eating choices. In …
Impulse Buying And Financial Literacy Among Public Elementary And High School Teachers In The Philippines, Melvin A. Jabar, Ma. Luisa C. Delayco
Impulse Buying And Financial Literacy Among Public Elementary And High School Teachers In The Philippines, Melvin A. Jabar, Ma. Luisa C. Delayco
DLSU Business & Economics Review
This paper primarily interrogates the assumption that financial literacy essentially decreases impulse buying. However, this may not necessarily be the case, given that individuals navigate in different social contexts. Teachers in the Philippines are stereotypically perceived as heavy financial borrowers due to their limited income. Given their quick access to private financial loan companies, it is worthy to investigate if teachers also engage in impulse buying. The first goal of this paper is to describe the financial literacy of public-school teachers. Second, it examines the relationship between financial literacy and impulse buying. In this paper, financial literacy is operationalized in …
Bitcoin, Intrinsic Value, And Herd Effect, Angel Enrique Chico-Frias
Bitcoin, Intrinsic Value, And Herd Effect, Angel Enrique Chico-Frias
DLSU Business & Economics Review
The intrinsic value of a good may be related to its production costs, so its price will never be less than this. Bitcoin prices can have behaviors similar to those existing in nature. The research aims to find similar behaviors between herds in the animal world and Bitcoin prices. Besides, the study analyzes the cost of production to determine if it is the intrinsic value of this cryptocurrency. Three scenarios in Bitcoin prices in the Momentum indicator were studied. The ANOVA and Tuckey test were helpful to find if the Momentum averages are related. The Momentum Index data worked with …

Delta-Normal Value At Risk Using Exponential Duration With Convexity For Measuring Government Bond Risk, Di Asih I Maruddani, Abdurakhman Abdurakhman
DLSU Business & Economics Review
A bond is simply a debt that promises to repay the money with interest in the future. An issuer must pay the coupon regularly and repay the face value at the maturity date. Therefore, a bond is called fixed-income security. However, as with any investment, there is always some risk involved. Two significant bond risk investments are interest rate risk and credit risk. In this paper, we want to measure interest risk, which affects bond price movements. Exponential duration with convexity (EDC) will be applied to predict an accurate estimation of bond price caused by the interest rate change. Delta-normal …
The Effect Of Risk Management Committee On Audit Fees: Malaysian Evidence, Masturah Malik, Rohami Shafie
The Effect Of Risk Management Committee On Audit Fees: Malaysian Evidence, Masturah Malik, Rohami Shafie
DLSU Business & Economics Review
The global financial crises that have occurred in the past have caused a growing number of firms to establish a risk management committee (RMC) at their board level. By adopting 208 nonfinancial listed firms in Bursa Malaysia for the year end 2014, our study explores whether the establishment of an RMC and its attributes (having independent members, experts and female members) affect the audit fees charged towards the firms. Apart from the demand perspective of an audit, the study reports that independent members of the RMC are associated with higher audit fees. The result is derived from the basis that …

The Mediating Role Of Dividend Policy On The Impact Of Capital Structure And Corporate Governance Mechanisms On Firm Value Among Publicly Listed Companies In The Philippines, Rodiel C. Ferrer, Franklin S. Ramirez
DLSU Business & Economics Review
The mediating role of dividend policy on the impact of capital structure and corporate governance mechanisms on firm value was studied in this research. This study was conducted using the panel data of nonfinancial firms that were drawn from the firm’s financial statements and annual corporate governance report. The data were deracinated from the OSIRIS database, company website, and PSE Edge that were listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange for the years 2013 to 2016. To analyze the full model, the partial least squares–structural equation modeling approach was used with the statistical significance level of 0.05. With this, findings denuded …
Investigating The Effect Of Price Of Rubber Fluctuations On Stock Prices And Exchange Rates In Malaysia, Seuk Wai Phoong, Seuk Yen Phoong
Investigating The Effect Of Price Of Rubber Fluctuations On Stock Prices And Exchange Rates In Malaysia, Seuk Wai Phoong, Seuk Yen Phoong
DLSU Business & Economics Review
This paper examines the relationship between the stock price and nominal exchange rate in Malaysia to ascertain the significance of using rubber price as a correction mechanism. The Johansen cointegration test was employed to investigate the effects of linear combination and the relationships among the components in a multiple time series. A two-regime, intercept- adjusted Markov switching vector error correction model was also used to examine the parameters concerned. Rubber price is used as a correction mechanism. Because rubber is one of Malaysia’s main exports, using rubber price as a correction mechanism may affect the country’s economy. The results of …

A Review On Shariah Stock Portfolio Optimization, Zuhaimy Ismail, Noor Saif Muhammad Mussafi
DLSU Business & Economics Review
One of the essential concerns of investors of all time is to choose the best investment opportunities to capitalize on the value of their investment in stocks. Its objective is to minimize risk and at the same time also maximize return. This refers to portfolio optimization as the procedure of choosing the weights of a number of stocks to be included in a portfolio so that the optimum objective is achieved. Several studies have been shown by economists, mathematicians, and practitioners that provided sufficient and critical information for conducting stock portfolios. Approaches, methodologies, and techniques in those researches have to …

Investigating The Role Of Financial Sanctions In Utility Function And Their Impact On Household Behavior, Hamid Reza Izadi
DLSU Business & Economics Review
This research aims to present a DSGE model that can investigate the effect of utility changes due to the financial sanctions imposed on the dominant economy by defining different utility functions for households. The link between the real economy and financial markets stems from the countries’ need for external finance to engage in investment opportunities in each country. Each and every economy often needs foreign funding; however, restrictions can limit the access of the given country to international financial markets. The existence of a crisis in international financial markets such as international sanctions can aggravate the adverse shocks and their …

Towards Establishment Of A Payment For Ecosystem Services (Pes) In Protected Areas: The Case Of Mounts Banahaw And San Cristobal In Quezon Province, Philippines1, Luisito Abueg, Julie Carl P. Ureta, Arlene B. Inocencio
DLSU Business & Economics Review
This paper examines the potential of establishing payments for ecosystem services in the Mounts Banahaw and San Cristobal Protected Landscape. The findings show that this process entails more than just determining the willingness to pay of those who are benefiting from the ecosystem services. It also requires the buy-in of potential sellers. More important is clearly defining the product, that is, what the buyers will be paying for and what the sellers will be providing, so that the ecosystem service will be sustained. In addition, identification of some third parties to mediate between buyers and sellers and to serve as …

Consumption Behavior Of Algerians During The Period Of The Covid-19 Pandemic Crisis, Kamel Chikhi
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
This Dialogue contribution is a reflection on the impact of crises and in particular that of Covid-19 on the behavior of Algerian consumers: before, during and post-crisis. It is recognized that during crises, consumers adopt unusual and more rational behaviors: buy basic necessities; save more to deal with possible difficult situations; place more importance on nutrition, health, food quality characteristics, price, psychological and socio-demographic characteristics; have purchasing and consumption intentions based on their cultural background and prefer to adopt planned behaviors. Observed events during the Covid-19 pandemic allows us to illustrate the evolution of consumption behavior of Algerians and to …

Pandemic, Human Precarity And Post-Pandemic Metaverses, Tracy Harwood
Markets, Globalization & Development Review
With the global COVID-19 pandemic and its continuing impacts, we have reached a nexus which places new emphasis on our understanding of ourselves and our relationship with others – other nations, other species, other worlds. A critical question is: Does this mean that our transition into the posthuman is complete? It is therefore with some interest that this Dialogue contribution approaches the review of Francesca Ferrando’s book (2019) titled Philosophical Posthumanism. Prior to and after the detailed review of the book, this Dialogue essay reflects on the precarity induced by the pandemic and possible socio-technological ways out of the current …
