Capacity Planning With Financial And Operational Hedging In Low‐Cost Countries, Lijian Chen, Shanling Li, Letian Wang

The authors of this paper outline a capacity planning problem in which a risk-averse firm reserves capacities with potential suppliers that are located in multiple low-cost countries. While demand is uncertain, the firm also faces multi-country foreign currency exposures. This study develops a mean-variance model that maximizes the firm’s optimal utility and derives optimal utility and optimal decisions in capacity and financial hedging size. The authors show that when demand and exchange rate risks are perfectly correlated, a risk- averse firm, by using financial hedging, will achieve the same optimal utility as a risk-neutral firm. Understanding the personality traits and current attitudes of individual consumers is crucial for retailers and mobile advertisers. In this paper, we investigate the phenomenon of “variety seeking tendencies" in mobile users in their (1) online (represented by their App usage behavior), and (2) physical (represented by their location visits) worlds. We show that different categories of users exhibit different levels of variety. Firms depend on information technology to provide high quality internal information, but prior research suggests that IT is underutilized (Venkatesh and Bala 2008). Therefore, using a sample of firms with equivalent levels of technology in their information systems, I investigate whether firms that employ CEOs with IT expertise make forecasts that are more accurate. I argue that CEOs with IT expertise are more likely to encourage the utilization of IT in making earnings forecasts, thus increasing the accuracy of the forecasts. We address the problem of minimizing staffing cost in a contact center subject to service level requirements over multiple weeks. We handle both the capacity planning and agent schedule generation aspect of this problem. Our work incorporates two unique business requirements. First, we develop techniques that can provide near-optimal staffing for 247 contact centers over long term, upto eight weeks, rather than planning myopically on a week-on-week basis. This study assesses the determinants of customer-based-brand equity of Internet Service Providing brands in Pakistan. A Likert scale questionnaire was served to 251 respondents, selected through convenience sampling, to assess correlational relationship between the dependent variable: brand equity and independent variables: brand loyalty, brand awareness, perceived quality and brand association. Brand loyalty, brand awareness and perceived quality were found to have a positive significant impact on building brand equity. It’s recommended that marketers and brand managers allocate maximum resources to brand loyalty and brand awareness to gain higher brand equity of ISPs brands.

his article discusses the importance of Joomla as a Content Management System that is used by 2.7% of the web and how a possible new malware exploit has been discovered. The PHP BASE64 malware exploit is a well-documented exploit of PHP but the implementation of this exploit as it relates to Joomla is a very ingenious method not previously used before, as far as the authors were able to discover. In this particularly case, PHP code is embedded in a GIF file to produce a very sophisticated and unique malware exploit to Joomla.

This study focused on digital media dependency, relational orientation, and demographic variables as potential factors that were relevant to the usage of social networking websites (e.g., MySpace and Facebook) among college students. A total of 258 (101 male and 157 female) students completed the questionnaire that contains the measures of digital media dependency, relational orientation, social networking media usage, and demographic characteristics. The respondents also indicated specific types of things that they disclose (post) on their social media websites. Group recommender systems help users to find items of interest collaboratively. Support for such collaboration has been mainly provided by interfaces that visualize membership awareness, preference awareness and decision awareness. In this paper, we are interested in investigating the roles of emotion awareness interfaces and how they may enable positive group influence. We first describe the design process behind an emotion annotation tool, which we call CoFeel. We then show that it allows users to annotate and visualize group members' emotions in GroupFun, a group music recommender.
