Tempting The Japanese Taste Buds, Glenis Ayling Jan 1993

Tempting The Japanese Taste Buds, Glenis Ayling

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

"Australia needs to differentiate its product from those of other countries: it needs to do something a bit different toget products on the shelves and sold.

Japanese consumers expect the price to be reasonable and the flavor to be good. They will buy on the image the product cenveys, and the image or 'message' the country of manufacture has in Japan," -

Toshio Tada.

Development Of Redglobe Table Grapes For Export, Ian Cameron

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Exports wereonce a major outlet for the Western Australian table grape industry.

Over the last 20 years however, exports have fallen from 500 to 00 tonnes per year, despite an increase in the area planted to table grapes and an increase on overseas demand for our produce.

By 1993 less than 3 per cent of the table grapes produced in the State were exported.

The introduction of Redglobe, a new table grape varietyy from California, is expected to increase the export of table grapes from Western Australia to 1000t by 1997, when the variety will represent 90 per cent of …

An Analysis Of Joint Ventures Between The United States And The Commonwealth Of Independent States, Brian P. Davis, Daniel L. Demott Sep 1992

An Analysis Of Joint Ventures Between The United States And The Commonwealth Of Independent States, Brian P. Davis, Daniel L. Demott

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to develop insights for those who wish to engage in joint ventures with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Over the last 70 years, joint ventures with the West have been scarce in the USSR. With the dissolution of the USSR, opportunities for commerce have greatly improved. Most Western countries are seeking to take advantage of the natural resources and untapped consumer market in the CIS. Consequently, companies wanting to engage in commercial endeavors will need current information on the different financial, cultural, organizational, and logistical issues that are peculiar to the CIS. This …

Offsets In Weapon System Sales: A Case Study Of The Korean Fighter Program, Deborah L. Kremer, Bill Sain Sep 1992

Offsets In Weapon System Sales: A Case Study Of The Korean Fighter Program, Deborah L. Kremer, Bill Sain

Theses and Dissertations

This study sought to develop a framework of factors which impact the success of offset agreements. These agreements have impacts on the U.S. defense industrial base, employment, the balance of trade, and the ability of the U.S. to protect its technology. Consequently, their study is important. A framework of twenty-two factors was developed through an extensive literature review and then tested against the offset proposals in the Korean Fighter Program (KFP). In the KFP case study, only one of the factors, high visibility of the product, appeared to differentiate between the two proposals and have an impact on the final …

Doing Business In The Third World- With Special Reference To India, Premchander Jun 1992

Doing Business In The Third World- With Special Reference To India, Premchander

IIMB Management Review

Dictators, debts and declining economies are the dangers of the third world which have effectively kept away western businesses. The term third world, a product of the now defunct cold war, refers to those nations which currently constitute three fourths of the world population that are poor. This is a variegated grouping of nations with differing political systems, ranging from Westminster type democracies, neo-fascist dictatorships to monarchies -hereditary and otherwise. The sustaining economic models may be capitalist, Marxian or any acceptable mix of the two leading some writers to believe in the existence of convergent capitalism where elements of freemarket …

Exchange Rate And Income Effects On South Korean Exports: The Us Case, Heather M. O'Neill, William Ross Dec 1991

Exchange Rate And Income Effects On South Korean Exports: The Us Case, Heather M. O'Neill, William Ross

Business and Economics Faculty Publications

This paper analyzes econometrically the effects of direct and cross exchange rates as well as US income and Korean supply developments on the volume of Korean exports to the US. The results suggest that US demand has been the most important factor in the growth of Korean exports to the US in recent years. However, direct exchange rate effects are also important; the estimates suggest that for 1989-90, a yearly 10% real appreciation of the won against the dollar would have lowered export volume by about 10% per year relative to a baseline case. Cross exchange rate effects run counter …

Technology Exports From A Small, Very Open Nic: The Case Of Singapore, Eng Fong Pang, Hal Hill May 1991

Technology Exports From A Small, Very Open Nic: The Case Of Singapore, Eng Fong Pang, Hal Hill

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

This paper examines the nature, composition and determinants of Singapore's early stage technology exports. The pattern of these exports reflects the quite unique mix of policy and institutional features in Singapore's environment - remarkably high growth, very open economy, rapid structural change, particularly intense economic relations with neighboring Southeast Asian nations, and a pervasive and paternalistic state role. The bases of Singapore's comparative advantage in these service exports are identified, and some general implications from its experience are analyzed.

The Agricultural Implications Of Europe 1992, Ross Kingwell Jan 1990

The Agricultural Implications Of Europe 1992, Ross Kingwell

Journal of the Department of Agriculture, Western Australia, Series 4

Most farmers know only too well that the policies of national and international governments affect the prices they receive for their produce. The Europe 1992 policy is a new policy with potential to benefit Australian agriculture. The Europe 1992 policy is a set of policy initiatives being adopted by member countries of the European Economic Community (EC). The 1992 policy aims to create a barrier-free internal market among EC members by the end of 1992. All impediments to trade within the EC are to be dismantled. The Europe 1992 policy is already causing change in many European markets and is …

International Cooperative Venture Strategies: Outward Invest, Stephen B. Tallman, Oded Shenkar Jan 1990

International Cooperative Venture Strategies: Outward Invest, Stephen B. Tallman, Oded Shenkar

Management Faculty Publications

The preferred models of overseas outward investment in cooperative ventures were analyzed for 340 small and midsized manufacturing firms in a newly industrialized country (NIC), the Republic of Korea. Firms were examined as sources of investment capital, knowledge, or technology, and locational differences in the methods by which these firms exploit their competitive strengths were addressed. The analysis suggested that firms in the sample have strategic concerns that are different from those of the large multinational companies (MNC) usually studied in this type of research. Current models of the international firm and of cooperative ventures were shown to have a …

India-Japan Joint Ventures-Problem And Prospects, Raj S Dhankar Dec 1989

India-Japan Joint Ventures-Problem And Prospects, Raj S Dhankar

IIMB Management Review

The relations between India and Japan can be traced back to early recorded history. It was, however, only in the 20th Century, and more recently in the post-war period, that greater inter-action has taken place between the two countries. Economic cooperation has taken a new dimension since early 50s. Trade which was the only form of economic cooperation diversitied into technology transfer and investment, third-country ventures, and financial cooperation. The areas of cooperation have vastly expanded. The 1980s saw India and Japan embark on a new path of economic relationship and partnership. Both the Japanese and Indian economy have already …

Complex Organisations: Export Promotion In India, S Shiva Ramu Dec 1989

Complex Organisations: Export Promotion In India, S Shiva Ramu

IIMB Management Review

There are several organizations that are involved in export promotion in India. These organizations are inter-organizational in nature. Very few theories have been developed to explain the structure and the behaviour of such inter-organizations. Some of the theories have tried to explain the behaviour of inter-organizations through their formalised relations, intensity, reciprocity and exchange transactions. Most of them use either open system theory or social system or contingency theories (Negandhi 1980). Most of these theories explain the relationship between the organization and the environment. Attempts have also been made to classify different organizations. Existing theories of organization have neglected the …
