A meta-analysis of 34 studies was performed to explore the magnitude in which work environment manipulates training transfer. The independent variables for this study included supervisor support, subordinate support, peer support, transfer climate, relapse prevention, goal setting, continuous learning culture, task constraints, and frequency of use. This study performed a moderator analysis to compare the effect these independent variables had on management and non-management training; and self-reporting versus supervisor or peer reporting; and training versus development. Results revealed that relapse prevention (.65) had the highest levels of correlation of all independent variables to training transfer. The results also showed that …

Currently, Predator unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are operated by pilots and navigators experienced with manned combat aircraft. With a projected increase in UAVs, more combat pilots will be needed to operate these aircraft. Yet, if the current operational tempo continues, the supply of combat pilots may not be able to meet the demand. The military is dependent on commercial vendors to augment their supply system, to include hazardous materials. Hazardous materials must be packaged and labeled differently than general cargo for shipment in the defense transportation system. Previous research has shown there is an increase in frustration levels at Aerial Ports of Embarkation. The reasons for frustration range from minor discrepancies to improperly completed shipping documents. This research investigates if commercial companies are a cause of the frustration problems. This study reviewed 78 articles from previous research to investigate the effects of factors in the organizational environment on training transfer. A meta-analysis was performed with training transfer as a dependent variable and post-training independent variables of supervisor support, subordinate support, peer support, workplace support/transfer climate, relapse prevention, goal setting, continuous learning culture, task constraints, and frequency of use. This research develops a career field's educational profile through use of the decision analysis approach of value-focused thinking (VFT). VFT is used to solicit the capabilities that the career field manager (CFM) desires its officers obtain from an advanced academic program. This process generates a value hierarchy and a focused set of alternatives (degree programs). The academic programs' content are evaluated against the hierarchy to determine how well it meets the values of the functional area. Two decades ago, Aerospace Medical Technicians received robust skills sustainment training through exposure to multifaceted patient treatment environments. Available training environments included inpatient care, outpatient care, and emergency services. This diverse training environment made possible through large operating budgets and an extraordinary infrastructure could not last. Today (after five separate base closure and realignment initiatives), medical funding and infrastructure is but a shadow of what it once was. The purpose of this research was to assess force protection knowledge in Air Force civil engineer officers. Specifically, the research attempted to answer four specific research questions dealing with officers' understanding of force protection concepts and principles, effectiveness of current training, which training is effective and which needs improvement, and how officers feel about the training they receive and their ability to apply it to real world situations. An Examination Of The Effects Of Communication Media On Geographically Separated Mentors And Protégés: Does Distance Matter?, Chen Yen Su

The purpose of this study was to explore and evaluate the extent to which a formal mentoring relationship could transition into an informal mentoring relationship after geographically separating a formal mentor-protégé dyad. This study also explored the moderating effects of individual effectiveness. Data were collected from 283 military graduate students attending an 18-month graduate program. The results of this research revealed protégé perceptions of mentoring effectiveness increased with the length of the relationship. Furthermore, this study found formal mentoring relationships were capable of transitioning into informal mentoring relationships.

Completion rates for web-based courses tend to lag behind their traditional classroom counterparts, sometimes as much as 40% (Carter, 1996; Phipps and Merisotis, 1999; Zielinski, 2000). Thurston and Reynolds (2002) employed motivational constructs to explain why some people persist while others drop out of web-based courses. Their analysis of 8 web-based courses and response from 497 active duty Air Force students indicated that completion goals, off-task distractions, availability of feedback for self-regulation, and continued confidence were important factors that distinguished those who completed their courses from those who did not. The United States Air Force (USAF) currently employs the use of computer-based training (CET) across a host of requirements. One such requirement is in the Information Assurance (IA) arena and involves the training/licensing of over one-million computer network end-users. This research is a follow-on effort to Capt Pete Lasch's thesis, which examined the Air Force training needs of contingency contracting officers (CCOs). Through this study, Lasch (2002) identified a list of critical training tasks for CCO training. This study investigates how units currently conduct training and to what extent the recommended tasks are being addressed in training. Interviews, surveys, and archival training logs were used to capture data for the study. CCO demographic information and recommendations were collected through these interviews and surveys. The Department of Defense is increasingly relying on computer-mediated communications to conduct business. This reliance introduces an amplified vulnerability to strategic information manipulation, or deception. This research draws on communication and deception literature to develop a conceptual model proposing relationships between deception detection abilities in a computer-mediated environment, gender, trust, and training. An experiment was conducted with 119 communications personnel to test the proposed hypotheses. No relationship between gender or trust and deception detection accuracy was found. A study of 91 Coast Guard junior officers and their mentors established the construct validity for mentoring functions and barriers to mentoring. The Air Force relies on supervisors to provide mentoring to their subordinates. The key predictors of whether junior officers report their supervisors as mentors were similarity between mentor and mentee and the quality of the supervisory relationship in terms of LMX and psychosocial and career development mentoring functions.
