The intent of this research article is to determine the effects of employee engagement and morale on workforce retention in the hospitality industry specifically. To that end, an investigation was conducted into the role that engagement, motivation (both extrinsic and intrinsic), professional development, work related stress, talent management, organizational culture, and leadership satisfaction play, or could play, in employee retention in this industry, which historically has experienced high turnover rates. Given the variety of options of methods available today, the pilot study is examining just computer, smartphone app, or telephone. Respondents also have the option of making a reservation directly with the brand hotel that they wish to stay with or making the reservation through other means. (2015), Baby Boomers were born between 1945 and 1964; Generation Xers were born between 1965 and 1980; and Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996. The goal of this research is to identify the factors affecting students’ hotel choices, to examine the impact of hotel servers when a potential guest selects a hotel, and to determine how hotel servers influence a student’s preference. The target populations for this study were Johnson & Wales University students who had stayed in U.S. hotels. A print-out questionnaire survey was distributed, descriptive statistics, and z-tests were used to address the research hypothesis. Do Interesting Things Increase Behavioral Intentions? A Test Of The Appraisal Structure Of Interest And Relationship Between Interest And Behavioral Intention: Applications In The Hospitality Industry, Min Gyung Kim, Anna S. Mattila

The emotion of interest has significant implications for human behavior. However, prior research in interest is limited to the domain of psychology. This study applies the appraisal theory of interest to test the inducers of interest, and the relationship between interest and behavioral intentions. An experiment with hypothetical scenarios in a restaurant setting is to be completed. Stimuli appraised as new and complex and with information about them are proposed to cause interest, and interest is expected to increase behavioral intention. Implications for hospitality managers are briefly discussed.

For the first time in history, estimates of the overweight people in the world rival estimates of those malnourished. The World Health Organization (WHO, 2002) ranked obesity among the top 10 risks to human health worldwide. In the early 1960s, nearly half of the Americans were overweight and 13% were obese. Today some 64% of U.S. adults are overweight and 30.5% are obese. Even more alarming, twice as many U.S. children are overweight than were twenty years ago, a 66% increase.
