Trade Secrets Law And Corporate Disclosure: Causal Evidence On The Proprietary Cost Hypothesis, Yinghua Li, Yupeng Lin, Liandong Zhang

Research Collection School Of Accountancy

This study exploits the staggered adoption of the inevitable disclosure doctrine (IDD) by U.S. state courts as an exogenous shock that generates variations in the proprietary costs of disclosure. Overall, this study represents one of the first efforts in identifying the causal effect of proprietary …

The Effects Of An Auditor's Communication Mode And Professional Tone On Client Responses To Audit Inquiries, Aaron Saiewitz, Thomas Kida

Department of Accounting Faculty Research

In this study, we investigate whether receiving an auditor inquiry via e-mail differentially affects client responses as compared to more traditional modes of inquiry, and whether those responses are affected by the auditor's professional tone. In an experiment, experienced business professionals respond to an auditor's information request regarding a potential accounting adjustment. We varied the communication mode of the request (e-mail, audio, or visual) and the professional tone of the communication (more versus less professional) and then measured the extent to which participants revealed information that either supported or did not support the client's accounting position. Marriott Student Review Volume I Issue 2: Women And Millennials In Business, Marianna Richardson

Marriott Student Review

Our second edition of MSR is dedicated to two populations – millennials and women. Currently, millennials comprise approximately 35%[1] of the United States’ workforce. Women hold 51.7% of the jobs in the U.S. job market.[2] This MSR issue focuses on the status of these groups in the business world. The reason for this emphasis is that most MSR writers and readers are millennials (which is defined as people between the ages of 18-24) and all of us work with or for women (as well as some of us are women).
