An Investigation Of The Relationships Between And Among Power, Trust And Job Satisfaction Of Nurse Managers In Acute Care Hospitals Using Rogers Science Of Unitary Human Beings, Maureen A. Schneider May 2015

An Investigation Of The Relationships Between And Among Power, Trust And Job Satisfaction Of Nurse Managers In Acute Care Hospitals Using Rogers Science Of Unitary Human Beings, Maureen A. Schneider

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Background: Defined as control and freedom, power is often characterized as hierarchical. Power-as-freedom exists as a unitary manifestation of the whole and is acausal. Thus a worldview that emphasizes mutual process rather than a causal (control) view supports a culture of trust in the healthcare environment that generates a committed and a thriving work force. When nurse leaders support a climate of trust, managers develop a sense of commitment to the organization which may lead to job satisfaction. However, there is a lack of empirical evidence supporting the relationship between power, trust and job satisfaction among nurse managers.

Purpose: The …

Micro-Enterprise Education: The Academy For Creating Enterprise, Barry West, Gibb Dyer May 2015

Micro-Enterprise Education: The Academy For Creating Enterprise, Barry West, Gibb Dyer

Journal of Undergraduate Research

In developing countries throughout the world, one often-used approach to alleviating poverty has been to encourage entrepreneurship among the poor. Micro-credit is a highly popular solution to encourage the poor to launch new enterprises, but has somewhat mixed results (Field et al., 2013; Banjeree et al., 2009; Karlan and Zinman, 2011; Kaboski and Townsend, 2011). Current literature suggests that simply giving loans to those who start businesses out of necessity is not the best approach to encourage entrepreneurial success. These writers argue that these “necessity entrepreneurs” need education in the form of business knowledge and tools to help them succeed …

The Humility Effect: Mitigating Intergroup Conflict, Reese Haydon, Dr. Kurt Sandholtz May 2015

The Humility Effect: Mitigating Intergroup Conflict, Reese Haydon, Dr. Kurt Sandholtz

Journal of Undergraduate Research

Prior techniques for solving intergroup prejudice have shown limited practical application. Common to these techniques is an emphasis on understanding and appreciating the competencies of the out-group members (i.e., disconfirming the in-group’s stereotypes of the out-group). The purpose of our research is to build a case for a different approach—one that emphasizes in-group humility, or recognition by in-group members of their own strengths and weaknesses.

Remote Worker Characteristics: The Positive Relationship Of Intrinsic Motivation In Remote Worker Productivity, Josefina Martinez-Amador May 2015

Remote Worker Characteristics: The Positive Relationship Of Intrinsic Motivation In Remote Worker Productivity, Josefina Martinez-Amador

Student Scholarship

Recent research predicts that by 2016, 47% of the workforce will perform work from a remote location. This study contributes new knowledge to remote workforce management by hypothesizing that personality traits (intrinsic motivation, grit, and impression management) and job engagement have direct positive and significant relationships with employee productivity. To address this gap, we conducted a quantitative study of 300 employees (remote and non remote) who are currently actively employed by different kind of companies. Three major findings emerged from our study. First, our research demonstrates that intrinsic motivation to work remotely is a critical characteristic for remote workers to …

Customer Complaint Management Systems (Ccms) In A Food Processing Industry, Maggie A. Macleish

Senior Honors Projects, 2010-2019

Abstract

The food processing industry must meet customers’ highest quality expectations at the lowest cost. I partnered with Nestlé’s pizza facility in Little Chute, WI, to improve the current customer complaint approach of the quality department, which aimed to improve product quality. To improve the total quality of the system, this project established a defensive method of addressing customer complaints. Some strategies used to improve the current Customer Complaint Management System (CCMS) include Quality Functional Deployment (QFD), fuzzy logic, Kano’s methods, Voice of the customer (VOC) and Go-See-Think-Do (GSTD). These strategies are all related, but have not previously been used …

What separates the hobbyists from the professionals is the development of skills and creative vision and the proper legal and business licensing to make a profit off of their wedding photography. Shelley Owens provides her own experiences as a professional wedding photographer as …

Accounting Information Systems For Msme Survivability, Alger Tang

Center for Business Research and Development

According to the International Finance Corporation (2012), small and medium enterprises (SMEs) represent a substantial percentage of businesses globally (about 90%). Moreover, they are directly responsible for more than half of employment worldwide. As such, governments and economists consider the SME sector to be a key factor in national growth (Pollard & Hayne, 1998). In the Philippines, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) already account for almost all (99.6%) of the businesses in the country (Department of Trade and Industry, 2011). An Examination Of The Volunteer Coordinator's Influence On Church Volunteers' Intent-To-Continue At The Largest Protestant Churches, Jason Berton Golden May 2015

An Examination Of The Volunteer Coordinator's Influence On Church Volunteers' Intent-To-Continue At The Largest Protestant Churches, Jason Berton Golden

Dissertations

Volunteers contribute to the production of goods and services by easing the burden of the paid workforce while not increasing costs. Today’s volunteers tend to be highly trained, skilled professionals looking for a place to invest their time and skills. Churches are the largest single recipient of many volunteers’ efforts. Despite this fact, volunteerism is on the decline in churches.

Once recruited, attrition rates can climb as high as 40% in the first 12 months following training of volunteers. Therefore, the greatest challenge churches face is turnover. Not only does turnover lead to reduced production; it also incurs added expenditures …

Does Steering Committee Information Processing Capacity Influence Project Success In Enterprise Wide System Implementations - A Field Study, Kris Murphy May 2015

Does Steering Committee Information Processing Capacity Influence Project Success In Enterprise Wide System Implementations - A Field Study, Kris Murphy

Student Scholarship

Organizations make significant investments in enterprise-wide system development--also known as enterprise resource planning (ERP). They deploy several governance mechanisms to achieve strategic goals associated with the system implementations. Yet, success in such endeavors remains elusive. To improve success rates, companies have, for some time, deployed organization-wide executive steering committees which oversee these initiatives. Still, scholars and practitioners have limited understanding of what makes these committees, if at all, successful. This study contributes to limited research on steering committees by examining engaged steering committees (in contrast to portfolio balancing committee)--which oversee enterprise-wide system implementations--success in enterprise-wide system implementations in three ways. …

Labor Force Commute Mode Preferences And The Natural Environment, Brandon Killen May 2015

Labor Force Commute Mode Preferences And The Natural Environment, Brandon Killen

Accounting Undergraduate Honors Theses

In commuting to work, commuters select from a limited variety of transportation modes, including alternative modes like cycling and walking, based on needs and preferences. Understanding these needs and preferences, and how the conditions of the immediate environment can influence them can benefit both businesses and local governments in their efforts to accommodate the commute needs of their workers and better serve their communities. Though the body of commute preference research has grown significantly over recent decades, the study of the effects of the natural environment has remained mostly overlooked. In my research, I examined the relationships between selected weather …

An Analysis Of The Changing Competitive Landscape In The Hotel Industry Regarding Airbnb, Dean D. Lehr

Dissertations, Masters Theses, Capstones, and Culminating Projects

This thesis analyzes the competition between hotels and Airbnb in San Francisco. Airbnb is an internet platform that allows hosts to rent shared space, private rooms or homes to tourists. This study identifies the affect Airbnb has on hotels, workers, renters, neighborhoods, and tax revenue.

Interviews and research was engaged with travel industry professionals. Hoteliers were found to be apathetic about the competition between hotels and Airbnb.

Firing Threats: Incentive Effects And Impression Management, Brice Corgnet, Roberto Hérnan-Gonzalez, Stephen J. Rassenti May 2015

Firing Threats: Incentive Effects And Impression Management, Brice Corgnet, Roberto Hérnan-Gonzalez, Stephen J. Rassenti

Economics Faculty Articles and Research

We study the effect of firing threats in a virtual workplace that reproduces features of existing organizations. We show that organizations in which bosses can fire up to one third of their workforce produce twice as much as organizations for which firing is not possible. Firing threats sharply decrease on-the-job leisure. Nevertheless, organizations endowed with firing threats underperformed those using individual incentives. In the presence of firing threats, employees engage in impression management activities to be seen as hard-working individuals in line with our model. Finally, production levels dropped substantially when the threat of being fired was removed, whereas on-the-job …

Analysis Into The Effect The Sarbanes-Oxley Act Of 2002 Has Had On Investor Confidence In Audited Financial Statements, Richard F. Pino Iii

Business/Business Administration

This paper studies the impact that the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) has had on investor confidence in audited financial statements. Most studies of SOX examined its effect on audit quality, but the principal goal that government officials wanted to accomplish was to restore investor confidence in audited financial information following the frauds at Enron, WorldCom, and other public companies. The main method used in gathering data is a small survey to investors, where they answered questions regarding certain parts of SOX to gain insights into investors’ perspectives. After analyzing the survey results as well as researching scholarly works on …

This research studies the usability of the Electronic Health Record for clinicians involved in cardiac care by evaluating various clinician-patient interaction workflows. The aim of the study is to identify inefficiencies by examining the similarities and …

Data Anonymization And Its Effect On Personal Privacy, Nicole Ganz

Business/Business Administration

Everyone’s personal privacy is extremely vital and people go through great lengths to ensure that their information is secure. Corporations who collect or utilize data do realize this and strive to protect their customer’s information. But can data be released to research companies without jeopardizing the privacy of the people? The more sensitive the released data is, the more companies have to mitigate the probability of being able to link the data together. Companies collect big data because it can be examined to predict patterns and be used for marketing, thus increasing their chances of becoming successful. To replicate the …
