Dynamic Funding And Investment Strategy For Defined Benefit Pension Schemes: A Model Incorporating Asset-Liability Matching Criteria, Shih-Chieh Chang, Cheng-Hsien Tsai, Chia-Jung Tien, Chang-Ye Tu
Journal of Actuarial Practice (1993–2006)
This paper studies the dynamic funding policy and investment strategy for defined benefit pension plans using one of the most comprehensive dynamic pension models to date. The model includes three investable assets: one risk free and two risky. The optimal plan decisions are formulated as a stochastic control problem that is solved using dynamic programming. The objective function uses performance measures to take into account the stability and solvency of the plan. The model is then applied to a Taiwanese pension.

There Is Nothing More Diverse Than "New", Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans

In the organizational competition for talent, successful retention of newly recruited workers is at least as important as the initial hire. Still, many organizations fail to establish a sense of inclusion for new people in much the same way they often fail to create a sense of inclusion for people of color, women, people with foreign accents, or anyone with obvious differences from the “traditional group.” In most organizations, even those that have embarked on “diversity initiatives,” newly hired people often do not feel welcomed. Consequently, turnover rates in the first two years of employment are seven times greater than …
Someone Old Or Someone New? The Effects Of Ceo Change On Corporate Entrepreneurship, J. L. "Bert" Morrow Jr.
Someone Old Or Someone New? The Effects Of Ceo Change On Corporate Entrepreneurship, J. L. "Bert" Morrow Jr.
New England Journal of Entrepreneurship
Boards of directors often attempt to foster corporate entrepreneurship by replacing a firm’s chief executive officer (CEO). Compelling theoretical arguments and anecdotal evidence suggest that when firm performance has suffered, a new CEO is best suited to lead the firm’s creative endeavors. On the other hand, among firms that retain their existing CEO after a decline in performance, manipulating the CEO’s compensation package is a common governance practice used by boards to encourage innovation. In these cases, some have argued that increasing the CEO’s pay will encourage corporate entrepreneurship, because the CEO has been compensated for assuming additional risk. Counter …

Network Characteristics And Its Implications : Case Study Of Two Firms In Buyer-Supplier Relationships, Geok Eng Kwee
Student Works (2000-2009)
Cooperative relationships among firms are an area of research of interest to academicians and practitioners alike. Such cooperative relationships have evolved into a new form of business model known as network. This paper attempts to investigate the characteristics of a network and its implications such as benefits and risks from it. In a competitive world where survival depends on the abilities of firms to meet the needs of demanding consumers, an understanding of the dynamics of network is of paramount importance to firms wishing to deliver high value-added products. The study applies a case-study approach and two firms were selected. …
The Commercial Usage Of Internet By Insurance Companies In Malaysia, Chee Kiat Tee
The Commercial Usage Of Internet By Insurance Companies In Malaysia, Chee Kiat Tee
Student Works (2000-2009)
One of the characteristics of the new millennium is the increasing pace of change that has been brought about by the advent of Internet technologies, and it becomes another viable channel of delivery for the insurance industry. The question is no longer whether the Internet will change the insurance marketplace. Rather, the focus is on how quickly the changes will occur, how the industry will be affected, and how insurance companies can best position themselves to take advantage of new e-commerce opportunities. The primary motivation for this study comes from a lack of studies of commercial Internet usage by Malaysia's …
A Comparison Of Auctions And Multilateral Negotiations, Charles J. Thomas, Bart J. Wilson
A Comparison Of Auctions And Multilateral Negotiations, Charles J. Thomas, Bart J. Wilson
Economics Faculty Articles and Research
We compare first-price auctions to an exchange process that we term 'multilateral negotiations.' In multilateral negotiations, a buyer solicits price offers for a homogeneous product from sellers with privately known costs, and then plays the sellers off one another to obtain additional price concessions. Using the experimental method, we find that with four sellers, transaction prices are statistically indistinguishable in the two institutions, but with two sellers, prices are higher in multilateral negotiations than in first-price auctions. The institutions are equally efficient with two sellers, but multilateral negotiations are slightly more efficient with four sellers.
Pricing And Product Mix Optimization In Freight Transportation, Michael F. Gorman
Pricing And Product Mix Optimization In Freight Transportation, Michael F. Gorman
MIS/OM/DS Faculty Publications
We propose improved pricing and market mix can improve the profitability of the freight transportation provider through the reduction of equipment repositioning costs. We hypothesize that because of complexities surrounding pricing and equipment repositioning costing, existing pricing strategies in freight transportation fail to fully consider these costs. We test this hypothesis in an applied setting in which Monte Carlo simulation captures the stochasticity of market conditions inherent in the problem. We use a heuristic to improve the nondifferentiable, discontinuous objective function.
Our results from test cases show with high confidence that current prices are not optimal, as indicated by a …

The need to close Midland Saleyard is a result of endorsement by Cabinet of proposals by the Midland Redevelopment Authority (MRA). The Midland Saleyard is a significant impediment to the MR.A achieving a "high revenue scenario" return on the development of the site. The MRA would like to have the saleyard closed within about two years.
Against this background, the Meat Industry Authority (MIA) prepared a report on the relocation of Midland and recommended Muchea as its preferred location for replacement saleyard capacity. Under MIA's scenario, it would own and operate the new saleyard.
As part of the public consultation …

In order to do that, is important first to explain the context in which these generation exist, as well as the characteristics that overwhelmingly classify the people who were born into them.
