In its discussion paper (Fisheries Management Paper No. 139), which was widely distributed and publicized, the working group put forward a range of management proposals for community discussion. These were developed after meeting directly with recreational fishers in key regional centres and receiving feedback from fisheries scientists and managers. The discussion paper attracted widespread comment, with more than 1,200 written submissions received from recreational fishers, angling clubs and other stakeholders. The research was focused on a single part produced in Tri-Industries. The problem was that there is a difference in the projected lead time and the actual lead time of the part under investigation. The actual lead time was longer than projected lead time, which resulted in the company being delinquent in customer delivery. This paper addresses the effect on customer service satisfaction of primary language differences between service personnel and customers in retail store environments. This study was conducted using ethnographic research methods in five different retail store environments where service personnel were Spanish-speaking and customers English- speaking. The results of the study suggest that primary language differences in the service dyad can result in impaired service and customer dissatisfaction. The results of the study also indicate that store management can control some factors to increase customer satisfaction.

This study set out to assess the short-term effects of a retrenchment exercise on individual and organisational performance in the Uganda civil service. In all, 247 senior and lower rank employees from 6 civil service ministries were administered a questionnaire that measured individual performance, factors hindering employee performance and suggestions on how performance could be improved, and organisational performance factors. The majority of participants reported retrenchment had positive or unknown effects on individual performance. Factors hindering employee performance were inadequate funding, lack of motivation, work overload, and lack of tools--to mention but a few. Providing a living wage, improved incentives, …

The primary focus of this article is on what higher education professionals can learn from their counterparts in business and industry with respect to training in a collegiate environment. An ethnography of how women entrepreneurs with multiple responsibilities manage their time at home. Introducing the belief that by engaging in the "juggler ethic" women entrepreneurs are able to manipulate activities to provide for more engagement in family life. The formation of composite films of double-stranded DNA and cationic lipid molecules (octadecylamine, ODA) and the hybridization of complementary single-stranded DNA molecules in such composite films are demonstrated. The immobilization of DNA is accomplished by simple immersion of a thermally evaporated ODA film in the DNA solution at close to physiological pH. The entrapment of the DNA molecules in the cationic lipid film is dominated by attractive electrostatic interaction between the negatively charged phosphate backbone of the DNA molecules and the protonated amine molecules in the thermally evaporated film and has been quantified using quartz crystal microgravimetry (QCM). Observations of the dynamic interactions of high level volunteers and fundraising practitioners are interpreted as an extended learning process. Two major themes are developed: the actors are involved in reciprocal learning relationships, and learning is stimulated and encouraged by a wide range of behaviors and activities. A conceptual model is developed from the theoretical bases of collective action and situated learning to guide and present this interpretation. Each of the themes of the interpretation is explored for practical implications. Finally, implications for theory are discussed, and a direction for further research is indicated.

This study examines the impact that Ohio's higher education instructional support funding process has on decision-making at two-year colleges. In Ohio, instructional support subsidizes credit (degree-eligible) but not non-credit instruction. The study methodology included six colleges selected on the basis of how active or inactive they were in the provision of job-related non-credit training against their predicted activity. The colleges selected represent the three relatively most and least active institutions. Interviews were conducted at the six colleges with the President, Chief Academic Officer, Chief Fiscal Officer and Chief Non-Credit Instruction Officer. A primary challenge of the AFIT Mission Resource Value Assessment Tool is to approximate a given preference curve with integer valued mission ready resources. This thesis evaluated four candidate methods of accomplishing this approximation. The thesis evaluated the implementation of the integer estimation approximation from a purely mathematical perspective. The models were measured against six quality and error measurement standards: convergence on an endpoint, convergence on any interior integer points, characterization of the overall error between the sequence of integer coordinates and the real valued linear function and characterization of the error in each individual dimension of the problem space. …

The purpose of this case study is to analyze methods used in the city of Norfolk, Virginia to control adult oriented businesses (AOBs). Evidence is derived from several sources: interviews, analysis of government records, documents, historical photographs, and current observations.

The research examines approaches taken by the city to control AOBs in three locations: Main Street-Granby Street, the north end of Hampton Boulevard, and Little Creek Road-Shore Drive.
