This thesis is an evaluation of the environmental disclosures published in Australian local governments' annual reports. The study is aimed in identifying disclosures of environmental information by Australian local governments and providing explanations for the variations in the quantity and quality of information disclosed. Various social responsibility theories were used in this study. The theories employed in this study were institutional factors, stakeholder theory, social and political theories. Numerous studies have reported the existence of calendar anomalies in stock returns. In this study, we investigate the calendar anomalies of forty stocks of the trading/services sector in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) over the period of 3 January 1995 to 2 November 2000. The calendar anomalies such as the pre-holiday effect, half-monthly effect, and time-of-the-month effect are examined. The parametric and nonparametric tests are used in this study for testing the existence of calendar anomalies. Nonparametric tests are resorted to when the assumption of normality is not satisfied. In this field experiment, we first compared the performance effects of money systematically administered through the organizational behavior modification (O.B. Mod.) model and routine pay for performance and then compared the effects of O.B. Mod.- administered money, social recognition, and performance feedback. The money intervention based on the O.B. Mod. outperformed routine pay for performance (performance increase = 37% vs. 11%) and also had stronger effects on performance than social recognition (24%) and performance feedback (20%).

The primary objective of this study is to investigate the presence of seasonal variation in stock volatility and trading return across the days of the week and their causal relationship in the Malaysian stock market for period 3 July 1995 to 30 June 2000. The study revealed that there is no strong evidence to indicate the persistent presence of seasonal variation in stock volatility across the days of the week for the entire sample period and the three sub-periods, which correspond with a stable, declining and rising stock market. The main aim of this study is to examine the changes in age at first birth among Malaysian women, based on data from the 1994/95 Malaysian Population and Family Survey. Trends and patterns of age at first birth across cohorts are analyzed by using selected socio-demographic variables. Pronounced differentials in age at first birth can be observed across women's educational level and premarital work experience. Age at first birth is lowest among the Malays, those with no schooling and living in rural areas, as well as those who did not work prior to marriage. Much of the differentials in age …
