The Self-Curating Musician: An Innovative Concept And An Intensive Learning Experience By Systemic Design Thinking, Joris Blanckaert, Ellen Loots, Saskia Westerduin, Pawan V. Bhansing

Journal of Arts Entrepreneurship Education

Self-curation is an emerging notion in the artistic practice that we propose as an alternative to the questioned notion of entrepreneurship in the realm of classical music. Systemic Design Thinking (SDT) methods helped conceptualize self-curation and develop an intensive, week-long learning experience. Participants validated the self-curation concept and its five components: activating creativity, seeking uniqueness, developing a discourse, understanding the performance practice and engaging communities. Our study further highlights that rather than suffering from a tension between arts and commerce, young (performing) musicians experience a tension between the expectation of the outside world that they need to be exceptional as …

To address these risks, this study utilized machine learning (ML) techniques, including Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Word2Vec, to extract and cluster OFDP-related risk factors. The analysis was conducted using unstructured text data from the annual reports of two prominent OFDP companies—Delivery Hero (DH) and Grubhub (GH)—from 2017 to 2020. We also examined the multidimensional RepRisk Index (RRI) for these companies and developed a two-dimensional matrix to evaluate preparedness and responsiveness across various risk categories in the OFDP sector. Do The Effects Of Ethnocentrism And Cosmopolitanism Depend On Countries-Of-Origins? An Empirical Study Of U.S. Consumers, Thomas Tanner, Jung Kim, Ronda Mariani

Atlantic Marketing Journal

Consumer ethnocentrism and cosmopolitanism have been shown to be instrumental factors for the evaluation and purchase of foreign products. Many prior studies have provided evidence that ethnocentric consumers have lower willingness to buy for products that originated from foreign countries, while cosmopolitan consumers have higher willingness to buy. However, prior research has been conducted in the research setting where only one foreign country is pit against home country. Therefore, it is not clear whether their direct impacts on animosity, product judgement, and willingness to buy will be homogeneous, regardless of countries-of-origin. In other words, do consumers hold the same degree …

The Poorer The Author, The Better Their Art: How For-Profit Fanfiction Can Be Fair Use., Jordan Stevenson

American University Law Review

Fanfiction is an increasingly prominent part of culture and significant form of art. Yet its authors, some of whom write hundreds of thousands of words and whose works amass millions of views, rarely profit from their creations, which are typically published online for free. This Comment argues that existing fair use doctrine provides an avenue for fanfiction authors to monetize their work without legal risk. Drawing on recent Supreme Court decisions, I identify five themes of transformative use that are applicable to any fair use defense. I then introduce a taxonomy categorizing fanfiction's narrative, formative, and substantive elements. I integrate …

Instructor's Manual: Where's My Compass?, Steven Sparling

Journal of Arts Entrepreneurship Education

For many students graduating from musical theatre and acting programs the lack of employment opportunities in performance was discouraging. The attached case studies examine the experience of three graduates and how they used skills adjacent to their performing skills to launch small business ventures. This Instructor’s Manual uses SWOT Analysis and the Ansoff Matrix as tools to assist students in analyzing the case studies (and as planning tools for their own entrepreneurial ventures). It also …

The approach is thought to be too overwhelming for students who are at pre-intermediate, intermediate, or even beginner levels. Instructors may think that involving students’ background information or past knowledge in a passage topic will be burdensome for ESL students in a lower-level class. As a matter of fact, many students in any level of English class were experiencing or questioning the same issues in their routines. Separating students’ past knowledge from reading activity is impossible. This study was conducted to find out students’ past experience or …
