Supplier Alliances: Differences In Attitudes To Supplier And Quality Management Of Adopters And Non-Adopters, Vijay R. Kannan, K. C. Tan

Management Faculty Publications

Faced with increasing pressure to improve responsiveness to rapidly changing market needs, firms must respond to the challenge of how to improve supply reliability and quality, while simultaneously reducing costs. This has led to an increase in outsourcing and the adoption of supplier alliances with key suppliers. While much has been written about when and how to form such alliances and the benefits of doing so, little evidence exists of how alliance adopters differ from non‐adopters in their attitudes towards managing suppliers and their efforts to manage quality in the supply process. This study presents results of a survey of …

Understanding The Meaning Of Collaboration In The Supply Chain, Mark Barratt Jan 2004

Understanding The Meaning Of Collaboration In The Supply Chain, Mark Barratt

Management Faculty Research and Publications

Despite its infancy, some authors are already suggesting that the writing may be on the wall for supply chain collaboration. It has been reported that supply chain collaboration has proved difficult to implement; there has been an over‐reliance on technology in trying to implement it; a failure to understand when and with whom to collaborate; and fundamentally a lack of trust between trading partners. This paper proposes that a supply chain segmentation approach, based on customer buying behaviour and service needs, is the most appropriate context for collaboration. The paper also proposes the need for a greater understanding of the …

Profits In The Pie Of The Beholder, Daniel Corsten, Nirmalya Kumar

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In the early 1990s, grocery suppliers and retailers joined forces to streamline operations - an initiative called "efficient consumer response." Today, suppliers feel like they're not getting their fair share of the profits from ECR. But they stand to lose more if they give up on it, the authors say.

Determinants Of Electronic Data Interchange Adoption In International Buyer -Supplier Communications, Jose V. Gavidia Dec 2001

Determinants Of Electronic Data Interchange Adoption In International Buyer -Supplier Communications, Jose V. Gavidia

Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA

In spite of the increased interest in supply chain management in recent years, few studies have examined the adoption of the technologies that facilitate information flows along the supply chain. Information flows have been shown to have a positive effect on economic efficiency and supply chain partner satisfaction. The adoption and use of information technologies to communicate with suppliers can also stimulate small business growth and foster regional economic development.

This dissertation develops and empirically tests a model of the determinants of the adoption of interorganizational information systems, specifically electronic data interchange (EDI), between buyers and suppliers in international supply …

Manufacturing And Supply Chain Management In China:: A Survey Of State-, Collective-, And Privately-Owned Enterprises, David Pyke Phd, Ma, Mba, Ba, David Robb Phd, Mba, Be, John Farley Phd

School of Business: Faculty Scholarship

Because of the booming economy, interest in China has soared in recent years. The government has decided to privatize many State-owned enterprises (SOEs), so foreigners can much more easily invest in existing firms than ever before. Is it wise to consider investing in these SOEs? Certainly, many have major problems. How sophisticated are Chinese manufacturing firms? Do they understand modern principles of manufacturing strategy and supply chain management? What is the level of installed technology, from traditional production planning systems, like MRP, to robotics? This paper attempts to answer these questions based on a survey of 100 firms in the …
