Dentistry And The Law: Employee Vs. Independent Contractor, Dan Schulte Jd Dec 2022

Dentistry And The Law: Employee Vs. Independent Contractor, Dan Schulte Jd

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This month’s Dentistry and the Law column discusses hiring a dentist as an employee or an independent contractor. Employing a dentist as an independent contractor offers advantages such as avoiding compliance with various employment laws and not having to withhold taxes. However, there is uncertainty regarding whether tax and other authorities will recognize the independent contractor relationship. Factors like supervision and control play a significant role in this determination. To mitigate uncertainty, practices can contract with an entity owned by the dentist, providing a potential solution. Legal counsel is recommended for setting up such arrangements.

Payment Profiles: Using Payment Transaction Data To Identify And Characterize Gamblers, Kasra Ghaharian

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Payment providers in the gambling industry facilitate transactions, allowing customers to transfer money to and from wagering accounts. Payments transaction data is information that is captured from these transactions, including, for example, the type, amount, time, and location. How this data may be used for gambling harm minimization and prevention has garnered significant interest, particularly due to accelerated payments modernization in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this study, I explored the utility of payments transaction data to categorize subgroups of gamblers in order to identify individuals who may be at-risk of harm. I benchmarked six cluster analysis methods …

Negative Customer Reviews And The Online Decision-Making Process: The Role Of Construal Fit, Minji Kim

Consumers seek out online reviews to aid their decision-making, particularly when purchasing products and services online. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap by exploring how consumers with different mindsets respond to online reviews framed at different levels of construal. Applying the construal fit principle, this research predicts that consumers more fluently process online …

It features striking images of cells and tissues under microscopes, accompanied by lay-language descriptions of the research behind each image. The project aims to engage the public, stimulate curiosity, and convey information about scientific discoveries. Resolving Echoes From Dentistry’S Past, Christopher J. Smiley Dds Dec 2022

Resolving Echoes From Dentistry’S Past, Christopher J. Smiley Dds

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

This editorial discusses a 1939 concept of dental disease prevention and the resistance it faced from some in the dental profession due to potential economic self-interest. It draws parallels to current issues in the dental field, such as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) rules on dental coverage. The CMS rules link dental services to medical outcomes, opening the door for future expansion. However, the editorial highlights gaps in coverage, particularly for cancer patients and those with diabetes. The new CMS rule signifies progress in integrating oral health into healthcare, echoing a goal set in 1939.

Analyzing Business-Focused Social Networks In Hiring: The Influence Of A Job Candidate's Network On A Recruiter's Hiring Recommendation, Hannah V. Kibby

Theses and Dissertations

Social media has altered the ways in which people interact. Business-focused social media profiles, such as those on LinkedIn, can act as a proxy for a traditional resume. However, these websites differ from a traditional resume in that information presented is sometimes informal, personal, and irrelevant to the member’s career. Furthermore, HR employees are able to view a job candidate’s social network. This research investigates the influence of a recruiter’s knowledge of an applicant’s professional network on the recruiter’s perception of the applicant’s trustworthiness and hence their willingness to take risk in the hiring relationship. A review of the literature …

Reducing The Cost Of Agency: Looking Beyond Top Management Teams, Stephen C. Giles

Theses and Dissertations

The year 2020 demonstrates that powerful forces exist in the external environment, which may threaten a firm’s survival, but agency problems, within the organization, persist even in years where there are minimal external pressures on the firm. Agency costs can present meaningful challenges to the firm beyond the chief executive and top management team, and the concept of agency is applicable to all employees, not just management. An organizational learning culture is proposed to both aid firms in reducing the cost associated with agency, as well as to enable firms to adapt to rapid changes in the external environment. In …

Franchising: A Microfoundational View Of Personality Relationships Towards Franchisee Financial Performance, Christopher Heath Rehkop

Theses and Dissertations

The franchisor-franchisee relationship is unique; it provides a blend of entrepreneurial spirit with the structure of an established corporation. Franchisees operate with a degree of independence, taking certain risks and managing the details of day-to-day business, yet are also obligated to follow prescribed systems and processes of the franchisor. Both parties have a vested interest in the success of this relationship. While many macro-level factors (economy, technology, and demographics) come into play for a franchise’s success, one micro-level variable that may be identified early during recruitment is the personality characteristic of the franchisee candidate. A micro-level or “microfoundations” approach addresses …

Systematic Scoping Literature Review To Study The Impact Of Leabnese Financial Crisis 2019-2020 On The Banking Sector, Nour Mohamad Fayad

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

Over the last thirty years, blunders have been committed in the Lebanese financial sector. Besides, mistakes made with good faith, and the financial and economic crisis of years 2019 and 2020, on the other hand, has resulted in much greater deficiencies of trust and rises in the emotional distance between Lebanese people and their banks than the previous crisis. One collateral effect of the crisis and the, at times, scorching antagonisms that have afflicted banks and their customers has been an unfathomable reluctance on the part of banks to interact with their consumers. Therefore, this research spots the light on …
