This survey was conducted to analyze the general job satisfaction and compensation trend and create a national benchmarking report for salary and other benefits that faculty members receive in the U.S. Some may say job satisfaction is an elusive, even mythical concept, and an abundance of research has been dedicated towards it. The current report mainly focused on job satisfaction amongst academic staff in the U.S. We were particularly interested in understanding both the general level of satisfaction and different factors that seemed to account for satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The sample consisted of 22 participants including C-level, senior executives, and administrative support personnel for a large nonprofit organization in the southeastern United States. The results of the study indicate that unspoken factors exist within organizations, however it is difficult to surface these unspoken factors within a group. This appears to influence the amount of information that it shared in the decision-making process. The present study is a first attempt to operationalize the hidden dimensions proposed by the Covert Process Model (Marshak & Katz, 2001). Excel is used to build a simulation of the TI BAII-Plus financial calculator to illustrate the N, I/Y, PV, PMT, and FV inputs. Unlike other financial calculator simulators, this template also displays the corresponding Excel functions to aid in transitioning the student to using Excel for financial analysis.

This study presents a novel approach to price optimization in order to maximize revenue for the distribution market of non-perishable products. Data analysis techniques such as association mining, statistical modeling, machine learning, and an automated machine learning platform are used to forecast the demand for products considering the impact of pricing. The techniques used allow for accurate modeling of the customer’s buying patterns including cross effects such as cannibalization and the halo effect. Social engineering is a large problem in our modern technological world, but while conceptually understood, it is harder to teach compared to traditional pen testing techniques. This research details a class project where students implemented a phishing exercise against real-world targets. Through cooperation with an external corporate partner, students learned the legal, technical, behavioral, analysis, and reporting aspects of social engineering. The outcome provided both usable data for a real-world corporation as well as valuable educational experience for the students.

The Center for Cybersecurity Education and Research at Old Dominion University has expanded its use of high impact practices in the university’s undergraduate cybersecurity degree program. Strategies developed to promote student learning included learning communities, undergraduate research, a robust internship program, service learning, and electronic portfolios. This paper reviews the literature on these practices, highlights the way that they were implemented in our cybersecurity program, and discusses some of the challenges encountered with each practice. This study examines the impact of leadership development programs on organizational outcomes and organizational effectiveness. Using a grounded theory approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 executive leaders from aviation firms in Brazil with employees participating in a leadership development program. NVivo12 was used for coding and managing the data. Thematic analysis was performed to determine themes and categories. The leadership development program was found to influence organizational level outcomes identified as themes of internal impact, external impact, skill development, and capacity. The interviews also found that executive leaders perceived the leadership development program to impact organizational effectiveness. Connections to …

The cash flow graphics can be used in the live or virtual classroom and as a resource for students outside of the classroom. JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 7, 2020) – Dr. Hadii Mamudu, professor in the Department of Health Services Management and Policy in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health, authored an article that examines the disproportionately burdened central Appalachian region’s health literacy about cardiovascular disease.

The article, which appeared in the October 2020 issue of the Southern Medical Journal, is titled “Cardiovascular Diseases Health Literacy among Patients, Health Professionals, and Community-Based Stakeholders in a Predominantly Medically Underserved Rural Environment.”

JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 7, 2021) – Samuel Garcia, a sophomore Roan Scholar at East Tennessee State University, was recently named a recipient of the U.S. Department of State's Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

Since 2001, Gilman Scholarships have assisted qualifying students with study or intern abroad experiences by providing them with skills critical to national security and economic prosperity. The program is administered by the Institute of International Education and congressionally funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
