Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
The issue of trust has increasingly attracted attention in the business ethics literature. Our aim is to contribute further to this literature by examining how the use of the carbon copy (cc) function in email communication influences felt trust. We develop the argument that the use of cc enhances transparency—representing an important characteristic of workplace ethics—and hence promotes trust. We further argue that a downside of the cc option may be that it can also be experienced as a control mechanism, which may therefore negatively affect trust. The results of our first study showed that the use of cc indeed …

Do Equity And Accountability Get Lost In Losts? An Analysis Of Local Return Funding Provisions In California’S Local Option Sales Tax Measures For Transportation, Jaimee Lederman, Peter Haas, Stephanie Kellogg, Martin Wachs, Asha Weinstein Agrawal
Mineta Transportation Institute
This study explores how local return provisions of local option sales taxes (LOSTs) for transportation are allocated and spent to meet local and regional transportation needs. Local return refers to the component of county LOST measures that provides funding directly to municipalities in the county to be used to meet local needs. Local return has become a fixture in LOSTs; 58 LOST measures placed on the ballot in California (as of 2019) that have included local return in their expenditure plan have an average of 35% of revenues dedicated to local return. Local return provisions in the ballot measures often …

Revman: Revenue-Aware Multi-Task Online Insurance Recommendation, Yu Li, Yi Zhang, Lu Gan, Gengwei Hong, Zimu Zhou, Qiang Li
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Online insurance is a new type of e-commerce with exponential growth. An effective recommendation model that maximizes the total revenue of insurance products listed in multiple customized sales scenarios is crucial for the success of online insurance business. Prior recommendation models are ineffective because they fail to characterize the complex relatedness of insurance products in multiple sales scenarios and maximize the overall conversion rate rather than the total revenue. Even worse, it is impractical to collect training data online for total revenue maximization due to the business logic of online insurance. We propose RevMan, a Revenue-aware Multi-task Network for online …
Portfolio Diversification Using Shape-Based Clustering, Tristan Lim, Chin Sin Ong
Portfolio Diversification Using Shape-Based Clustering, Tristan Lim, Chin Sin Ong
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Portfolio diversification involves lowering the correlation between portfolio assets to achieve improved risk–return exposure. It is reasonable to infer from the classic Anscombe quartet that relying on descriptive statistics, and specifically, correlation, to achieve portfolio diversification may not derive the most optimal multiperiod portfolio risk-adjusted return because stocks in a portfolio can exhibit different price trends over time, even with the same computed pairwise correlation. This research applied a shape-based time-series clustering technique of agglomerative hierarchical clustering using dynamic time-series warping as a distance measure to aggregate stocks into like-trending clusters across time as a portfolio diversification tool. Results support …

Success Story: How Storytelling Contributes To Bts’S Brand, Courtney Lazore
Asia Marketing Journal
Good storytelling is at the heart of BTS as both a brand and a band. Modern brands know that story is no longer an option, but a requirement for keeping audiences engaged. With their consistent and creative reliance on story, BTS has transformed the K-Pop landscape, providing a framework for others in the industry that relies on open-structure narratives, sincerity, and active audience engagement, among other components. To investigate BTS’s storytelling strategies, this article breaks down how stories permeate BTS’s content, from music and videos to the Bangtan Universe and documentary films. The importance of transmedia storytelling and participatory audiences …

“Bangbangcon: The Live” - A Case Study On Live Performances And Marketing Strategies With The Korean-Pop Group “Bts” During The Pandemic Scenario In 2020, Cristina Freitas De Jesus
Asia Marketing Journal
In 2020, the unexpected pandemic scenario has led to a downfall of live concerts performances, after the government restriction for events and gatherings with a large number of people. The Korean-Pop (K-Pop) group BTS (Bangtan sonyeondan) also had their concert tour canceled in 2020. Therefore, the group came up with an innovative project to the music market, called “BangBangCon: The Live”, a live streaming paid concert held by the group, on June 14th, which achieved a Guinness World Record for most viewers during a paid music concert, in a live streaming format. It’s important, then, to study this …

“They’Re Worth My Investment”: Cultivating Intimacy Through Fan-Lead Financial And Support Initiatives Among Bts Fans, Tvine Donabedian
Asia Marketing Journal
This research outlines the motivations behind the fan-lead marketing and promotional endeavours undertaken by musical group BTS’s fan community, also known as ARMY. In highlighting the reciprocity in intimacy between the group and their fans, I argue that ARMY’s desire to elevate BTS is embedded within structures of affect, despite the financial nature of the benefits the group and their company may reap. These fan-lead initiatives represent efforts towards a common goal, where success, whether it comes in the form of money or not, is a gift of gratitude and a show of mutual understanding from fans to BTS. Based …

Therefore, this study examines the effect of congruence between consumption values (functional, emotional, social, and ethical value) and perceived brand benefits (enabling, enticing, symbolic, and socially responsible benefits) on consumers’ brand identification, trust, and loyalty. We find a positive effect on brand identification and brand trust when a consumer’s value is similar to a brand benefit, particularly between functional value and enabling benefit, and …

However, few scholarly works have sought to investigate the role fans have played in this heightened position for the group as state representatives, with minimal research conducted into …

In this study, the episodic type of advertising is hypothesized to have more favorable and active responses from viewers than the typical celebrity image-focused ads would have. By crawling and analyzing viewers’ responses on YouTube …

The Role Of Exchange Rate Policy In Trade Balance Adjustment: Investigating The Industry-Level Bilateral Trade Between Egypt And Italy, Nervan Elmasry
Theses and Dissertations
The study in hand attempted an empirical test for the impact of exchange rate policy on Egypt’s persistent trade balance (TB). To address the issue of “aggregation bias,” the study employed quarterly disaggregated trade data over the period 2007Q1-2019Q4 to capture the recent foreign exchange rate evolution in Egypt. The study applied a bounds test based on an Autoregressive Distributed Lags (ARDL) in its linear and non-linear form to empirically examine the long-run co-integrating relation between the variables and an error correction model (ECM) to estimate the short run dynamics of the adjustment process. The study compared the symmetrical against …
