JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 6, 2021) – “Al Norte al Sur: Latino Life in the South,” a traveling photography exhibition by José Galvez, is on display through Nov. 26 at the Reece Museum on the campus of East Tennessee State University.

This exhibition is in conjunction with the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month at ETSU and is sponsored by the Reece Museum in partnership with the Mary B. Martin School of the Arts, Language and Culture Resource Center, Office of Equity and Inclusion, Department of Literature and Language and Department of Art and Design.

The gender wage gap is the difference between what women and men earn for performing full-time, year-round paid work. Nationally, women earn 16–18% less than men. Although the gap has substantially narrowed from 41% when the Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963, varying reports estimate that, depending on the rate of change, it may take anywhere from 40 to 130 years to close the gap. Estimates suggest that over a 40-year career, the wage gap can amount to a lifetime earnings deficit of $80k to $800k. In Utah, women earn approximately 30% less than men, ranking close to last …

Cade as an assistant professor and supervising dentist at the clinic.

JOHNSON CITY –  (Oct. 5, 2021) The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) recently named Audrey Depelteau, director of the East Tennessee State University Innovation Lab, to participate in the 2021-22 class of the Appalachian Leadership Institute (ALI).

As an Appalachian Leadership Institute Fellow, Depelteau will participate in an extensive, nine-month series of skill-building seminars featuring regional experts, peer-to-peer learning and case study analysis. The program begins virtually in October and culminates with the Class of 2021-22's graduation in July 2022.

A medication bottle includes an outer container wall, an inner container wall and a fluid, such as an aversive liquid, located between the walls. In another aspect, the fluid is located within separate compartments or channels located between the walls where the walls contact or are secured to each other. A further aspect provides a removeable cap including multiple sensors, at least one of which is a biometric sensor.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 4, 2021) – A researcher in the East Tennessee State University College of Public Health is studying how mutations in the Ataxia telangiectasia mutated kinase (ATM) gene affect heart function.

“Approximately 3 million Americans have a heterozygous mutation of ATM,” said Dr. Suman Dalal, assistant professor in the Department of Health Sciences. “Individuals with ATM mutations show enhanced vulnerability to ischemic heart disease and die 11 years earlier than the non-carriers.”

In this study, we extend overqualification research to employees' social context of workgroup membership. Drawing upon social comparison theory and integrating with social exchange theory, we contend that employees' relative overqualification (ROQ, defined as individual overqualification relative to other group members' overqualification perceptions) is associated with their relative standing with their leader (measured as LMXSC, leader–member exchange social comparison), which in turn relates to employees' organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB). Furthermore, we assert that workgroup structural attributes and individual values (leader span of control and power distance orientation) influence the ROQ–LMXSC–OCB relationship. Social media platforms differ in the extent to which users reveal their identities, as well as users' ability to detect others' identities, both of which could lead to differential effects of social media generated word-of-mouth (eWOM) on actual consumer behavioral responses. Based on prior research on social identification, and relationship orientation of social networks in marketing, the authors examine whether eWOM on identity-focused (e.g., Facebook) and non-identity-focused (e.g., Youtube) platforms impact an objective consumer response variable: motion pictures box office sales. Experiential Learning & Teaching in Higher Education

The question we are explore in this paper is how a collaboration between a practicum-based course and a social enterprise encourages students to examine, discuss, and apply complex social justice concepts and frameworks. We also investigate how this fosters in them a sense of self as changemaker, a form of self-authorship that includes the confidence to tackle justice issues in collaborative and practical ways. Applying the framing of Baxter Magolda’s Learning Partnerships Model, we first describe our experiential pedagogical practice and then illustrate outcomes by drawing exemplars from student reflections.
