The Social Media Machines: An Investigation Of The Effect Of Trust Moderated By Disinformation On Users’ Decision-Making Process, Zulma Valedon Westney
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Social media networking sites (SMNS) have become a popular communications medium where users share information, knowledge, and persuasion. In less than two decades, social media's (SM) dominance as a communication medium can't be disputed, for good or evil. Combined with the newly found immediacy and pervasiveness, these SM applications' persuasive power are useful weapons for organizations, angry customers, employees, actors, and activists bent on attacking or hacking other individuals, institutions, or systems. Consequently, SM has become the preferred default mechanism of news sources; however, users are unsure if the information gathered is true or false. According to the literature, SMNS …

Evidence of the tremendous rise in the significance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing is coming from all quarters. Fund flows into ESG investment vehicles are growing at a sustained and sometimes exponential pace. Fund complexes are rushing to design products, creating and rebranding scores of mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs), including lower-cost indexed options. Industry leaders, critics, and commentators are all heralding the sea change as a shift in investing - and corporate governance - to more broadly consider environmental and social factors.
This Article provides vital context for this conversation. Its descriptive account of the …

The Moderating Role Of Personality On Person-Organization Fit And Turnover, Jane Park
Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)
Two studies were conducted to investigate whether personality traits serve as boundary conditions of the person-organization fit and turnover relationship, and whether continuous commitment may help explain why personality moderates the relationship between person-organization fit and turnover. The first study examines the effect of extraversion, neuroticism, and conscientiousness on the relationship between person-organization fit and turnover. The sample consisted of 1,251 office managers at a large, national organization. The second study follows up on the first study and examines the same relationships. In addition, the second study includes the effect of continuous commitment on the relationship between person-organization fit and …
Families Belong Together: The Path To Family Sanctity In Public Housing, Mckayla Stokes
Families Belong Together: The Path To Family Sanctity In Public Housing, Mckayla Stokes
Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy
In its 2015 landmark civil rights decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court finally held that the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the United States Constitution guarantee same-sex couples’ marital equality. The Court’s unprecedented declaration that the right to marry is a fundamental right under the Due Process Clause strengthened married couples’ right to privacy because it subjects government actions infringing on marital unions to heightened scrutiny. The Supreme Court has the option to minimize the impact of Obergefell by interpreting the right to marriage very narrowly—as only encompassing the right to enter into a state-recognized union …

In this study, we propose that manager job insecurity will moderate the nature of the relationship between perceived overqualification and employee career-related outcomes (career satisfaction, promotability ratings, and voluntary turnover). We tested our hypotheses using a sample of 124 employees and 54 managers working in a large holding company in Ankara, Turkey, collected across five time periods. The results suggested that average perceived overqualification was more strongly, and negatively, related to career satisfaction of employees when managers reported higher job insecurity. Furthermore, employee perceived overqualification was positively related to voluntary turnover when manager job insecurity was high. No direct or …

Early Termination Of Small Loans In The Multifamily Mortgage Market, Anthony Pennington-Cross, Brent C. Smith
Finance Faculty Research and Publications
This article uses micro‐level data on small (as defined by Fannie Mae) multifamily loans in the Fannie Mae loan portfolio to examine prepayment and default performance. The results document the importance of equity, as measured by the loan‐to‐value ratio, and contemporaneous property operating income relative to debt service obligations, as measured by the debt‐to‐income ratio. Our results indicate that the expiration of prepayment penalties and yield maintenance provisions lead to large spikes in prepayment and default. The results also illustrate that multifamily loans, as they are not fully amortized, also have a substantial risk of both extension and default at …

A main aim of this study was to identify values (beyond economic), based on time since graduation, and the motivating factors that help to define those values. One of the key trends this study revealed was …
The Impact Of Buyer Needs On Perceived Trade Show Effectiveness, Rj Fryan
The Impact Of Buyer Needs On Perceived Trade Show Effectiveness, Rj Fryan
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
The personal needs of professionals within the steel industry have the potential to influence sales and marketing activities. In a business-to-business setting, trade shows stand out as industry-accepted sales and marketing activities. While previous research has explored trade show strategies by examining various aspects of operational functions, a gap exists in the literature surrounding the attendees and their needs. Using three of Maslow’s needs classifications, this study seeks to explore the relationship between trade show attendees’ needs and their perceptions of trade show effectiveness and post-show purchase intention.
Self-Determination Theory And Pharmaceutical Salespeople: Does Motivational Orientation Of U.S.-Based Pharmaceutical Salespeople Influence Sales Performance?, Brandon Gilbert
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
Utilizing self-determination theory as the foundational theory for this research, this study analyzes the potential relationship that exists between a U.S.-Based Pharmaceutical salesperson’s motivational orientation (intrinsic or extrinsic) and their sales performance. Sales performance in this study is defined by sales awards (President’s Club, sales rankings, 100% to goal, etc.). To build a foundation of understanding of motivational theory, various theories in addition to self-determination theory are explored in the literature review. The four motivational categories explored are: a) hedonic motivational theories, b) cognitive motivational theories, c) personal growth or actualization motivation theories, and d) self-determination theory. Self-determination theory is …

Sticker Price Elasticity As Predictor Of Tuition Reset Success: A Quantitative Approach, Robert F. Van Cleef
Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)
Few quantitative studies exist on tuition outcomes resets despite increasing frequency and interest among industry practitioners. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between sticker price elasticity and changes in first-year student enrollment, net tuition and fee revenue from first-year students, percent of first-year students who are Pell-eligible, and changes in transfer student enrollment using multivariate logistic and linear regression models. The independent variable is the sticker price elasticity of demand from two years preceding the announcement of a reset.
This study contributes to the literature by adding to evidence regarding the signaling role of sticker price …

Virtual Board Meetings: Reverberations Resulting From Covid-19, Anthony J. Nyberg, Donald J. Schepker
Reports
The COVID-19 pandemic has driven boards to meeting virtually. Consequently, to better understand the challenges of virtual board meetings, we conducted semi-structured interviews with eight board members. These directors had an average of 14 years of board experience while serving on 27 boards of large, publicly traded, multinational organizations. The directors offered highly consistent responses. Interviews were supplemented with a survey administered to 22 directors that provided support for the core themes identified in the interviews.
