Hedge funds rely on “prime brokerage” units within banks to provide leverage. With the enhanced capital requirements and new liquidity standards introduced by Basel III driving up the cost to banks of engaging in such financing, prime brokers have begun to offer an alternative means of providing hedge fund clients with leveraged exposure to securities. Known as synthetic financing, this alternative requires the prime broker to enter into derivatives contracts with the clients. In seeking to strengthen the microprudential regulation associated with the earlier Basel Accords while also adding a macroprudential overlay, Basel III consists of proposals in three main areas intended to address 1) capital reform, 2) liquidity standards, and 3) systemic risk and interconnectedness. In December 2011, the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of JPMorgan Chase (JPM) instructed the bank’s Chief Investment Office to reduce the size of its Synthetic Credit Portfolio (SCP) during 2012, so that JPM could decrease its Risk-Weighted Assets as the bank prepared to adopt the impending Basel III bank capital regulations. However, the SCP traders were also told to minimize the trading costs incurred to reduce Risk-Weighted Assets, while still maintaining the opportunity to profit from unexpected corporate bankruptcies. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide. In Lebanon, hormone positive patients resistant to endocrine treatments account for most of the cases. These two facts directed the attention to evaluate everolimus-exemestane use in hormonal receptor positive metastatic breast cancer patients, in Lebanon. A multi-center, observational, retrospective cohort study was carried out by screening 69 metastatic breast cancer patient’s files in order to determine the progression free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and side effects of everolimus. This study was conducted to investigate the antimicrobial effect of thiamine dilaurylsulfate (TDS) on Hummus Dip, a traditional Lebanese food. A heat shock step was introduced after hummus cooking and before dip preparation. Lower bacterial counts were obtained even in the absence of any preservative and with better texture compared to non-heat shocked dip. Supplementing the dip with 2% TDS and 1% Malic acid completely inhibited bacterial growth over a period of one month at 4oC. Halt in bacterial growth was confirmed by growth curves. Orange and carrot pomace are considered as food wastes, despite their high content in beneficial health compounds. The comparison of phenolic extracts from orange and carrot pomace, showed higher values for Orange pomace, with a polyphenols concentration (130 mg/L), flavonoids (8.67 mg/L) and tannins (2.5 mg/L). A higher antiradical activity was also noted for orange pomace. However, carrot pomace presented a higher anti-bacterial activity. The beneficial activities of these extracts were owed to their high content in phenolic acids. Our study exhibited that orange and carrot pomace might be utilized as natural preservatives for many industrial applications.

This study assessed alignment between concepts included in current definitions of Entrepreneurial Spirit and job descriptions written by employers seeking undergraduate business administration or management degrees. In addition, a research-based definition of the Entrepreneurial Spirit was sought. A literature review generated concepts attributed to the Entrepreneurial Spirit. The quantitative conceptual content analysis examined job descriptions from Indeed. Implementation, creativity, and collaboration were concepts most appearing in job descriptions. The Marketing Manager job title contained the most Entrepreneurial Spirit concepts. Findings identified skills that are explicit in job descriptions which is useful for employers seeking Entrepreneurial Spirit in their hires.

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) 1 rose by 1.10% during December of 2019. The increase in the LEI-N, which is designed to predict economic activity six months into the future, confirms expectations for moderate economic growth in Nebraska through mid-2020. The leading indicator primarily rose due to strong business expectations. Respondents to the December Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase sales and employment at their businesses over the next six months. There also was a rebound in building permits for single-family homes during the month, suggesting an increase in construction activity mid-year.

JOHNSON CITY (Jan. 22, 2020) – Dr. William Stone, a professor at East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, is studying a new precision medicine approach to treating bladder cancer.

Stone, who is also director of pediatric research in Quillen’s Department of Pediatrics, received a Research Development Committee grant from ETSU to further his study of an enzyme called an esterase.
