Principal component analysis also determined items with highest loadings aligned onto the pillars in which there were assigned, confirming …

The goal of this project was to raise student awareness that negative perception of groups of individuals within an organization affects that group’s ability to succeed, and also impacts businesses negatively. By writing a business proposal to address a diversity, equity or inclusion issue at a business, students demonstrated that they understood the effects of negative unconscious perception. Tax Progressivity And Entrepreneurial Dynamics, Orkhan Nadirov, Bruce Dehning Apr 2020

Tax Progressivity And Entrepreneurial Dynamics, Orkhan Nadirov, Bruce Dehning

Accounting Faculty Articles and Research

This study examines how tax progressivity affects entrepreneurial dynamics in 18 countries. The results show that increased downside progressivity has a positive influence on the transition rate from nascent entrepreneurship to established business ownership. In addition, only downside progressivity calculated using marginal tax rates is related to the transition ratio, implying that it is marginal tax rates, and not average tax rates, that are used in the entrepreneurial decision-making process. This paper contributes to our understanding of entrepreneurial dynamics and the effect of tax progressivity on the transition from nascent entrepreneurship to established business ownership.

Change Management Over Financial Information: A Multi-Criteria Evaluation Of System Change Controls Using Desirability Functions, Angel R. Otero, Christian Sonnenberg, Ivonne Delgado-Perez

Communications of the IIMA

The increasing complexity of information technology, attacks on confidential information, and the passing of new laws and regulations have shifted the focus around internal controls in organizations. Particularly, general information technology controls related to change management (i.e., system change controls) are critical in ensuring the integrity, completeness, and reliability of financial information. The literature points to various evaluation methods for these controls to determine which ones to implement. However, these methods do not necessarily consider relevant organization constraints, preventing the inclusion of required controls or the exclusion of unnecessary controls. This paper proposes a novel approach, using Desirability Functions, for …

Beyond Access And Legitimacy: Training For Intercultural Communication In The Contemporary Workplace, Jessica Hammond

Business Administration: Student Scholarship & Creative Works

Significant research surrounds the concepts of intercultural, cross-cultural, and multicultural communication, both in academia and the workplace. The concepts are nearly identical, pointing to an ability to understand and adapt to the norms of a different cultural perspective. Despite the increasing cultural diversity of the United States, many firms continue to treat “diversity” from a legalistic or competitive perspective. This paper proposes a model for training employees in a firm to enhance their own intercultural communication skills to elevate the firm into a cultural mindset of learning. The model follows five cyclical steps: Assess, Design, Motivate, Implement, and Results. By …

Wai Puna: An Indigenous Model Of Māori Water Safety And Health In Aotearoa, New Zealand, Chanel Phillips Ph.D.

International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education

Māori (the indigenous peoples of Aotearoa, New Zealand) are intimately connected to wai (i.e., water) yet are overrepresented in New Zealand’s drowning statistics each year. On average Māori account for 20-24% of all preventable and non-preventable drowning fatalities, despite comprising only 15 percent of New Zealand’s population. Drowning remains a significant issue posing a threat to whānau (i.e., families) through premature death being imminent and whakapapa (i.e., genealogy) being interrupted. There is limited research that has examined Māori and indigenous understandings of water safety within the literature and limited studies that have investigated the issue of Māori drowning from a …

Uzbek society is undergoing a series of transformations in relations between institutions of higher education and society; in this context, the university, starting with its educational mission focused on training and research for the development of knowledge, promotes active participation in meeting the needs of society, known as the social responsibility of a higher educational institution (SR). Indeed, recently we often come to the topic of “social responsibility”as an ethical dimension that every organization or institution should accept, integrate and promote in its daily activities. The business world, obviously, has long welcomed and developed this idea, but in universities, especially …
