The 2008, 2012, And 2016 Summer Olympics: A Test Market Efficiency, Joshua Hutchinson

Longwood Senior Theses

Corporate sponsorship is a form of advertising in which companies commit and pay to be associated with certain events. Corporate sponsorships of an event, such as the Olympic Games, may feel the need to evaluate the returns on their investment. The risk-adjusted event study methodology was used to test the hypothesis that risk-adjusted return of the sponsor companies stock prices are significantly positively affected by the type of information. Happiness From What We Have And What We Experience: Attribute Non-Alignability Increases Anticipated Satisfaction From Experiential Purchases, Minhee Kim, Hee-Kyung Ahn

Asia Marketing Journal

This research examines how processing type and alignability moderate the effect of product type on satisfaction (i.e., happiness). It is well known that there are two types of processing―deliberative and intuitive processing. Based on the previous literature that the intuitive processing is compatible with experiential purchases and the deliberative processing is fit with material purchase, the current research demonstrates that processing type moderates the effect of product type on happiness. Moreover, we hypothesize that alignability moderates the effect of product type on anticipated satisfaction. As expected, participants in the intuitive processing condition reported greater happiness from their experiential purchases than …

The Detrimental Effect Of Customer Demotion On Customer Profitability In Hierarchical Loyalty Programs, Woojung Chang Apr 2020

The Detrimental Effect Of Customer Demotion On Customer Profitability In Hierarchical Loyalty Programs, Woojung Chang

Asia Marketing Journal

Firms employing hierarchical loyalty programs (HLPs) periodically demote customers from higher to lower status level to divest from unprofitable customers and boost profitability. However, existing literature lacks objective evidence on how customer demotion affects demoted customers’ future purchase behaviors and ultimately profitability for the firm. Moreover, customers in the HLP’s higher position may respond to customer demotion differently from those in the HLP’s lower position. Drawing upon emotions and equity theories, this study quantifies how the profits that customers contribute to the firm change after customer demotion, and compares demoted customers’ behavioral reactions from top-tier with those from bottom-tier based …

When consumers’ decisions are in distance from the norm, they come to face discomfort such as shame, guilt, embarrassment, and anxiety. These pressure act as a constraint …

Furthermore, this analysis examines the perspective of consumers and artists on streaming services. Most data is obtained from various academic journals and organizations involved in the music industry. The result of this research indicates that after the financial peak of the music industry in 1999, a decline in revenues was due to emerging technology, the illegal file sharing website Napster and piracy, the industry’s response to piracy, and digital downloads. As streaming services started to emerge the shift in revenues from …

Job Knowledge Tests, Michelle Graef Apr 2020

Job Knowledge Tests, Michelle Graef

Umbrella Summaries

What are job knowledge tests?

In an employment context, job knowledge tests are hiring tools that assess candidates’ knowledge of facts, principles, concepts, and other information that is important for performance of a job (Hunter, 1983). This knowledge falls into two general categories: (a) technical information and (b) the processes and judgmental criteria required to perform correctly and efficiently on the job (Hunter, 1983). Measures of job knowledge vary in the level of specificity of the content. Some measures are intended to test a candidate’s knowledge of specific content for a specific job, whereas other measures are designed to assess …

The Global Price Of Oil, Qe And The Us High Yield Rate, A. (Tassos) G. Malliaris, Mary E. Malliaris

School of Business: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Purpose

Quantitative easing (QE) allowed the US economy to stabilize and return to slow growth. Oil prices increased to $100 during 2010–2013. Then in June 2014, they plunged again dramatically to $40. The purpose of this paper is to develop and test a model that describes the price of oil as depending on six inputs: Federal assets accumulated by the Federal Reserve during the period of QE, the 10-Year Treasury note rate, the price of copper, the trade-weighted dollar, the S&P 500 Index and the US high yield rate for bonds rated CCC or below.

Design/methodology/approach

Has Covid-19 Impacted Price-Weight Relationships And Value Of Gain?, Elliott James Dennis Apr 2020

Has Covid-19 Impacted Price-Weight Relationships And Value Of Gain?, Elliott James Dennis

Extension Farm and Ranch Management News

First paragraph:

In the beginning of COVID-19, much of the attention was focused on managing the redirection of meat product from food service to retail stores. This past month has keenly focused on packing plant closures due to COVID-19 cases among workers and how to manage the supply of fat cattle already ready for slaughter. Fat cattle available for slaughter either cannot get bids or bids are significantly below breakeven prices leaving feedlots with decisions to be made about marketing and placements. The April 2020 Cattle on Feed report (https://usda.library.cornell.edu/concern/publications/m326m174z) revealed March placement decisions. Placements were down about …

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: April 29, 2020, Eric Thompson Apr 2020

Nebraska Monthly Economic Indicators: April 29, 2020, Eric Thompson

Leading Economic Indicator Reports

The LEI-N fell by 7.96% during March of 2020 as the COVID-19 Pandemic impacted Nebraska’s economy. The leading indicator primarily fell due to a spike in initial claims for unemployment insurance and a sharp drop in the airline passenger enplanements during March. Other components of the leading indicator also were impacted, given a decline in both building permits for single-family homes and manufacturing hours-worked. There also was a sharp increase in the value of the U.S. dollar during March, which creates additional challenges for both agriculture and manufacturing businesses. The decline in the leading indicator suggests that the Nebraska economy …
