Using Event Diaries And In-Depth Interviews For Understanding Shared Understanding In Headquarters-Subsidiary Cooperation, Fanny Seus, Marion A. Weissenberger-Eibl

The Qualitative Report

The paper describes the application of a qualitative diary method combined with in-depth interviews in the context of headquarters-subsidiary cooperation. We examine the distinct requirements of studying shared understanding in the case of distributed teams and argue that further research is necessary in order to explain inter-team conflicts arising from incongruent understandings and divergent expectations. Building on this research gap, we perform a case study in the headquarters of a multinational technology company and one of its subsidiaries. Learning From Workforce Studies That Cut Across Social Services, Quality Improvement Center For Workforce Development

Sometimes researchers, administrators and practitioners miss studies that cut across social service fields but that include child welfare workers in their samples. For example, a Canadian study by Graham, Shier, & Nicholas (2016), Workplace Congruence and Occupational Outcomes Among Social Services Workers, has relevant implications for the child welfare field. This study found that when a job setting matches an employee’s expectations regarding workload, autonomy, the working environment, and the values of the organization, there is likely to be a lower intention to leave the job and greater life satisfaction. The Effects Of Covid-19 Preoccupation On Business Activity: A Bounded Rationality Perspective, James White

Undergraduate Honors Theses

Using the unique conditions afforded by the global pandemic, we examine Simon’s influential 1947 Bounded-rationality theory with empirical data. We attempt to correlate a shift in attention with a decrease in routine organizational activity. Using a relative measure for interest in COVID-19 topic prevalence from Google Trends and sales activity from a diverse sample of business to business companies. Our results support Simon’s theory. We found a moderate relationship between routine activity and a global shift in attention. Furthermore, the data highlight a possible theoretical threshold necessary for an event to cause divergence.

Nautical charts are a fundamental tool of marine navigation. Critical information provides for safe and efficient use of our waterways and for protection of our marine environment. NOAA nautical charts developed by the Office of Coast Survey (OCS) are mandatory on commercial ships that carry America’s foreign commerce. NOAA’s charts are also used on every Navy and Coast Guard ship, fishing and passenger vessels, and are widely carried by recreational boaters. Education and experience play a key role in determining the efficacy and competency of the career paths found in the hotel industry. The research aims to examine how hotel management's education levels and experiences influence employees' service performance standards and customer satisfaction. The research conducted is a qualitative survey on 124 hotels in the U.S using questionnaires with the general managers, human resource managers, executive managers, and frontline employees who regularly interact with customers. This article examines internship courses in undergraduate hospitality management programs in the Southern Association of Colleges and School Commissions on Colleges (SACSCOC) region. The purpose of this article is to examine how internship course curriculum compares to the industry employers’ internship expectations. The results show the disconnect between curriculum for internship courses and what industry employers desire for internships. The findings show that undergraduate hospitality management programs in the same region vary in requirements, and these requirements do not meet industry employers’ internship expectations.

Small businesses are dominant in most economies and their owners likely experience high levels of distress. However, we have not fully explored how these common businesses meaningfully differ with respect to the stress process. Understanding the meaningful variations or subgroups (i.e., heterogeneity) in the small business population will advance occupational health psychology, both in research and practice (e.g., Schonfeld, 2017; Stephan, 2018).
