Traditional economic indicators have been criticized for delayed reporting, out-of-date methodology, and neglecting some aspects of the economy. Recent advances in economic theory, econometrics, and information technology have fueled research in building broader, more accurate, and higher-frequency economic indicators. When guests book a hotel room, user-generated content (UGC) has a significant impact on willingness-to-pay. Prior to advent of the internet, however, guidebooks and travel magazines were resources for guest information. The current study conducted a choice-based conjoint analysis survey of 803 US travelers to examine the current impact of travel magazines on hotel guests’ willingness-to-pay. The participants were given a scenario in which they choose a hotel for beach vacation with the variables of pool, location, star rating, number of online reviews, and inclusion in a “best of” list. The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate how regulation and deregulation impacts hospital performance, its persistence effect and the different impact on drug markets. The authorities designed programs and policies to regulate hospitals and pharmaceutical markets, aiming at improving hospital performance and control drug prices, while in reality, the programs and policies generate consequences, the effect varies across different types of the hospitals and drugs.

JOHNSON CITY (Aug. 21, 2020) – East Tennessee State University bestowed its highest honors upon three professors today with the presentation of the 2020 Distinguished Faculty Awards for Teaching, Research and Service.

The winners were nominated and selected by their faculty peers. Each received a medallion, a plaque and $5,000 provided by the ETSU Foundation during the annual Faculty Convocation, which marks the beginning of the new academic year and fall semester.

JOHNSON CITY (Aug. 21, 2020) – East Tennessee State University presented the 2020 Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching to Dr. Brooks Pond, professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The award was presented at the annual Faculty Convocation, which was delivered in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pond joined East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy as a founding faculty member in 2007. Over the past 13 years at ETSU, she has participated in didactic teaching of students within the College of Pharmacy and the biomedical science Ph.D. program.

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Family Safety Program (FSP) developed a new 5-week onboarding process for new social workers. Drawing upon available research and best practice, the QIC-WD worked with FSP to create the multipronged onboarding program that includes written materials, videos, supervisor supports, tours, and shadowing. Weeks 1 and 2 orient new workers to the organizational structure, mission, purpose, philosophy, and practice of FSP and provide an introduction to Cherokee culture through various activities.
