Regional Integration, Multinational Enterprise Strategy And The Impact Of Country‐Level Risk: The Case Of The Emu, Jenny Hillemann, Alain Verbeke, Won-Yong Oh

The European Monetary Union (EMU) provides a new macro‐level, institutional setting for multinational enterprises (MNEs). The authors investigate the impact of regional integration on MNE strategy by analysing Belgian firms’ entry‐mode choices in foreign markets, both EMU and non‐EMU ones, with a focus on what impact remains of country‐level risk. They demonstrate that regional integration has altered the impact of country‐level institutional risk on MNE entry‐mode choices inside the EMU. The conventional predictions of international business theory have been reversed, with higher country‐level risk inside the EMU driving a preference for wholly owned subsidiaries. Equity-investment credits are prevalent in the United States and other countries (Bell and Woodmansee, 2016), yet little evidence exists about the effectiveness of these credits at incentivizing individuals to invest. The intent of these credits is to spur entrepreneurial activity and in turn economic development (Acs, Asterbro, Audretsch, and Robinson, 2016; Bell, Wilbanks, and Hendon, 2013; Erken, Donselaar, and Thurik, 2016). The current study experimentally tests the influence of a tax credit on an individual’s likelihood to invest in startups across two risk settings, which parallel Angel and Crowdfunding investing methods.

Branding of services is a challange due to services characteristics. It is even more challanging in mature markets. In mature markets, customers show low levels of brand loyalty, with minimum perceived differences among competing offers. All of these factors raise the complexity of branding services in mature highly competitive markets. This research provides guidance for branding services in such markets. The economic analysis of an innovative tour product is important because economic growth in highly industrialized countries and international competitiveness are driven by innovations and technological change. At the same time, marked nation-specific prices exist in the sphere of modern tourism. This article illuminates this concept from different perspectives. Starting from fundamental conceptual and theoretical issues, it defines the main lines of the approach of national innovative products and goes on finding an empirical application of this branch of research by using correlation-regression analysis.

The Leading Economic Indicator – Nebraska (LEI-N) 1 rose by 0.70% during December of 2018. The increase in the LEI-N, which is designed to predict economic activity six months into the future, implies solid economic growth in Nebraska during the first half of 2019. Nebraska manufacturing hours and airline passenger counts both rose during December, while business expectations remained strong. Respondents to the December Survey of Nebraska Business reported plans to increase both sales and employment at their businesses over the next six months.

Purpose: The current study explores the latest generation of the workforce, Generation Z/Millennial cusp, and the loyalty concerns hiring managers’ experience. The authors explore how the characteristics of entrepreneurship and grit can potentially impact employee loyalty to an organization.

Methodology/approach: A content analysis using responses from 51 hiring managers and their views of the advantages and challenges of hiring from the millennial generation yielded patterns focused on grit, loyalty, and entrepreneurship.

Findings: Based on the feedback from hiring managers using a grounded theory approach, we propose a conceptual model that includes three constructs that emerged from the analysis: individual entrepreneurship …

This study attempts to determine the overall satisfaction factors from airline passengers at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), using the classification method of random forest. The analysis is based on the 2014 annual survey conducted by SFO that collects data on passenger demographics and satisfaction with airport facilities and services. Results of this study indicate that some service attributes are more important than others for passengers’ overall satisfaction at SFO. Study results are expected to provide practical insights to the airport industry. This study, in addition, introduces the machine learning method of random forest to tourism research.

U.S. Consumers’ Perception Of Asian Brands’ Cultural Authenticity And Its Impact On Perceived Quality, Trust, And Patronage Intention, Sarah Song Southworth

This study investigated the effectiveness of a brand marketing strategy that can be used by Asian brands originating from particularly emerging Asian countries to introduce themselves to the U.S. consumers. Specifically, the study examined how Asian-themed brand logos can enhance an Asian brand’s cultural authenticity, perceived quality, brand trust, and patronage intentions. The results of a nation-wide survey of 570 U.S. consumers provided empirical support for the proposed relationship. The research provides empirical insight on how authentic “Asian-ness” could be one helpful way to position Asian brands in the U.S. marketplace.
