A Dynamical Systems Approach To Cryptocurrency Stability, Carey Caginalp Aug 2019

A Dynamical Systems Approach To Cryptocurrency Stability, Carey Caginalp

ESI Publications

Recently, the notion of cryptocurrencies has come to the fore of public interest. These assets that exist only in electronic form, with no underlying value, offer the owners some protection from tracking or seizure by government or creditors. We model these assets from the perspective of asset flow equations developed by Caginalp and Balenovich, and investigate their stability under various parameters, as classical finance methodology is inapplicable. By utilizing the concept of liquidity price and analyzing stability of the resulting system of ordinary differential equations, we obtain conditions under which the system is linearly stable. We find that trend-based motivations …

Optimizing Impression Counts For Outdoor Advertising, Yipeng Zhang, Yuchen Li, Zhifeng Bao, Songsong Mo, Ping Zhang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In this paper we propose and study the problem of optimizing theinfluence of outdoor advertising (ad) when impression counts aretaken into consideration. Given a database U of billboards, each ofwhich has a location and a non-uniform cost, a trajectory databaseT and a budget B, it aims to find a set of billboards that has themaximum influence under the budget. In line with the advertisingconsumer behavior studies, we adopt the logistic function to takeinto account the impression counts of an ad (placed at differentbillboards) to a user trajectory when defining the influence measurement. However, this poses two challenges: (1) our problemis …

A Research Proposal: Policy Issues Of Video Game Addiction, Santosh Shivappa Kottalgi Aug 2019

A Research Proposal: Policy Issues Of Video Game Addiction, Santosh Shivappa Kottalgi

MBA Student Scholarship

The advances in computational power and high-speed internet are making digital games more interactive and entertaining as a popular leisure activity, leading to the rapid growth of the gaming industry globally. Game players are spending an increasing amount of time, money and energy to the extent that in many cases it is leading to game addiction (Griffith, 2002). Few games can be used for educational (Freitas & Griffiths, 2007) and medical treatment purpose to accelerate the cognitive learning of human being (Gentile et al.,2009), however, such needs are few. Due to pressure from families, doctors, educational institutions and even law …

Does Auditor Busyness Influence Audit Outcome? Further Evidence, Sze Man Lau Aug 2019

Does Auditor Busyness Influence Audit Outcome? Further Evidence, Sze Man Lau

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

Previous studies examining whether and how auditor busyness influences audit outcome use auditors' clientele size as a proxy for auditor busyness. The result of these studies may be biased due to the endogeneity arising from the selection of clients by auditors as well as the selection of auditors by clients. By leveraging on the natural disasters as exogenous events to clients, I study whether the auditor busyness, induced by the additional assurance work performed for disaster-affected clients, influences the audit outcome of the non-disaster-affected clients (i.e.: the remaining clients). Consistent with the Limited Attention Theory (Cherry, 1953; Kahneman, 1973), I …

Ncaa Division I Athletes’ Engagement In Educationally Sound Activities: A Review Of The Research, Eddie Comeaux, Rebecca E. Crandall

Journal of Athlete Development and Experience

Today’s academic support centers will have to forge a more authentically responsive approach to address the needs of intercollegiate athletes in U.S. higher education. This approach must include new and different ways of thinking about all athletes and the quality of their educational experience. This article presents findings from a review of a steadily growing body of research on the benefits of educationally sound engagement activities for Division I athletes. The review indicates that participating in purposeful engagement activities enhances athletes’ personal and academic self-concept and their collective learning and communication skills. These academic-related activities for athletes are conditional on …

Women's Lacrosse Players’ Perceptions Of Teammate Leadership: Examining Athlete Leadership Behaviors, Attributes, And Interactions, Jennifer L. Gellock, Eric Ekholm, Gregory P. Greenhalgh, Carrie W. Lecrom, Christopher S. Reina, Ravi S. Kudesia Aug 2019

Women's Lacrosse Players’ Perceptions Of Teammate Leadership: Examining Athlete Leadership Behaviors, Attributes, And Interactions, Jennifer L. Gellock, Eric Ekholm, Gregory P. Greenhalgh, Carrie W. Lecrom, Christopher S. Reina, Ravi S. Kudesia

Journal of Athlete Development and Experience

Athletes fulfill both on the field (task) and off the field (social) team roles. For this reason, recent research on athlete leadership has concluded there is no one best type of athlete leader. In the current study, role differentiation theory was applied to investigate how peers perceive teammate leadership roles and behaviors within a women’s lacrosse program at a NCAA Division I university. Each player (N = 30) participated in a survey in which they were tasked with rating every teammate on the following leadership behaviors: technical, interpersonal, and contagious energy. Individual player attributes of were also considered in …

Many factors are associated with a person’s attitude formation and intention towards a behavior. In this study, we examined organizational factors that helped form young athletes attitudes regarding their future plans in high performance sport. Through a mixed method survey design, data was collected from 207 young pre-elite athletes who competed during the 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games in Bahamas. Pricing Of Idiosyncratic Risk In An Intermediary Asset Pricing Model, Hasib Ahmed Aug 2019

Pricing Of Idiosyncratic Risk In An Intermediary Asset Pricing Model, Hasib Ahmed

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

Standard asset pricing theories suggest that only systematic risk is priced. Empirical studies report a relationship between idiosyncratic volatility or risk (IVOL) and asset price. The most common explanation for this anomaly is that households under-diversify creating a Bad Model problem. This paper uses an Intermediary Asset Pricing Model (IAPM) as a way to control for under-diversification in evaluating the relationship between IVOL and asset price. We find that IVOL premia is lower in an IAPM. Our findings indicate that under-diversification can explain the anomaly partially.
