The Effects Of Ceo Trustworthiness On Directors' Monitoring And Resource Provision, Esther B. Del Brio, Toru Yoshikawa, Catherine E. Connelly, Wee Liang Tan

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Because of the importance of board members’ resource provision and monitoring, a substantial body of research has been devoted to ascertaining how directors can be incented to perform their responsibilities. We use social exchange theory to empirically examine how board members’ resource provision and monitoring are affected by their perceptions of the CEOs’ trustworthiness. Our findings suggest that board members’ perceptions of the CEO’s ability, benevolence, and integrity have different effects on the board members’ resource provision and monitoring. Our results further suggest that board members’ governance behaviors are moderated by the board’s performance evaluation practices.

Factors Influencing Job Attainment In Recent Bachelor Graduates: Evidence From Australia, Denise Jackson Nov 2013

Factors Influencing Job Attainment In Recent Bachelor Graduates: Evidence From Australia, Denise Jackson

Research outputs 2013

Favourable graduate employment outcomes are critical for future enrolments in higher education. Enrolments fund higher education providers and ensure a continuous supply of graduates to enhance organisational effectiveness, national productivity and global competitiveness. Recent evidence suggests the global financial crisis has softened graduate labour markets. Stakeholder concerns for graduate career prospects and the adequacy of return on investment from studying at university prompt exploration of those factors which influence graduate employment outcomes. This study tests, using logistic regression, a model of job attainment in recent Bachelor graduates of Australian higher education providers using national data gathered in 2011 (n …

Assessing The Moderating Effect Of Consumer Product Knowledge And Online Shopping Experience On Using Recommedation Agents For Customer Loyalty, Victoria Y. Yoon, R. Eric Hostler, Zhiling Guo, Tor Guimaraes

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Social media technologies have greatly facilitated the creation of many types of user-generated information, e.g., product rating information can be used to generate preference-based recommendation. As a decision support tool, a Recommendation Agent (RA) has been widely adopted by many e-commerce websites. The impact of RAs on online shopping has been extensively examined in the IS literature. However, from Marketing and Social Media perspectives, the widely adopted cognitive–affect–conative–action framework of customer loyalty has not been tested in the presence of RAs. Moreover, there has been little research assessing the impact of increasing consumer knowledge about specific product domains on customer …

How Could, Should, And Would Physicians Use Facebook With Patients, Joy Peluchette, Katherine Karl, Alberto Coustasse

Management Faculty Research

After reviewing the benefits and risks of social media, we examine online discussion boards to determine the thoughts of physicians and patients regarding the use of Facebook to communicate with one another about health-related issues. Of the 290 comments analyzed, we found 42 percent were opposed to physicians using Facebook. Additionally, most (51.7 were opposed to physicians being Facebook “friends” with patients. Most opponents expressed concerns about privacy and the need to maintain professional boundaries in the physician-patient relationship. We provide suggestions for how healthcare administrators can effectively manage their social media presence and provide assistance to physicians.

Covered Calls, Steven D. Dolvin Oct 2013

Covered Calls, Steven D. Dolvin

All Chapters

A Covered Call is created by purchasing stock and simultaneously writing a call on that stock. The position limits upside, as the stock will be called away if the price rises above the exercise price. But, the premium from selling the call provides extra income, which is the primary reason for executing such a strategy. See the article here, WSJ.

Including Capabilities Of Local Actors In Regional Economic Development: Empirical Results Of Local Seaweed Industries In Sulawesi, Mark T. J. Vredegoor, Bartjan W. Pennink Oct 2013

Including Capabilities Of Local Actors In Regional Economic Development: Empirical Results Of Local Seaweed Industries In Sulawesi, Mark T. J. Vredegoor, Bartjan W. Pennink

The South East Asian Journal of Management

Stimson, et al. (2009) developed one of the most relevant and well known model for Regional Economic Development. This model covers the most important factors related to economic development question. However, this model excludes the social components of development. Local community should be included in terms of the development of a region. This paper introduced to the Stimson model “Skills” and “Knowledge” at the individual level for local actors indicating the capabilities at the individual level and introduced “Human Coordination” for the capabilities at the collective level. In our empirical research we looked at the Indonesian seaweed market with a …

Consumer Associative Network Analysis On Device And Service Convergance, Sang Man Han, Jang Hyuk Lee, Sun Young Park, Jo Oct 2013

Consumer Associative Network Analysis On Device And Service Convergance, Sang Man Han, Jang Hyuk Lee, Sun Young Park, Jo

Asia Marketing Journal

Our research brings managerial insights for developing new digital convergence of devices and services. To explain the phenomenon of device and service convergence, we combine two different approaches from separate research fields: a perceptual mapping technique generally used for segmentation in marketing and associative network analysis mobilized to understanding network structure of core and peripheral as well as the information mediating role of nodes in network science. By combining these two approaches, we provide an in-depth analysis of the associations among devices and services by assessing the centrality of device and service nodes in an associative network. This is done …

The Role Of Processing Fluency In Product Innovativeness Judgment, Hye Jeung Cho Oct 2013

The Role Of Processing Fluency In Product Innovativeness Judgment, Hye Jeung Cho

Asia Marketing Journal

The metacognitive experience of the ease or difficulty with which new, external information can be processed, referred to as ‘processing fluency,’ has been shown to influence a wide range of human judgments including truth judgments, familiarity judgments, risk perception, evaluation, and preference (see Alter and Oppenheimer 2009 for a review). The current research explores the possibility of a consumer`s product innovativeness judgment based on the difficulty of processing new information. In specific, this study examines if the inferential link between (dis)fluency-(un)familiarity can feed into the perception of innovativeness. This study also explores how a consumer`s processing motivation can moderate the …

Informative Role Of Marketing Activity In Financial Market, Kyung Oh Yun Oct 2013

Informative Role Of Marketing Activity In Financial Market, Kyung Oh Yun

Asia Marketing Journal

As advertising and promotions are categorized as operating expenses, managers tend to reduce marketing budget to improve their short term profitability. Gauging the value and accountability of marketing spending is therefore considered as a major research priority in marketing. To respond this call, recent studies have documented that financial market reacts positively to a firm`s marketing activity or marketing related outcomes such as brand equity and customer satisfaction. However, prior studies focus on the relation of marketing variable and financial market variables. This study suggests a channel about how marketing activity increases firm valuation. Specifically, we propose that a firm`s …

Technology Licensing Agreements From An Organizational Learning Perspective, Jong Kuk Lee, Sang Young Song Oct 2013

Technology Licensing Agreements From An Organizational Learning Perspective, Jong Kuk Lee, Sang Young Song

Asia Marketing Journal

New product innovation is a process of embodying new knowledge in a product and technology licensing is getting popular as a means to innovations and introduction of new product to the market in today`s competitive global market environment. Incumbents often rely on technology licensing to access new product opportunities created by other firms. Prior research has examined various aspects of technology licensing agreements such as specific contract terms of licensing agreements, e.g., distribution of control rights, exclusivity of licensing agreements, cross-licensing, and the scope of licensing agreements. This study aims to provide answers to an important, but under-researched question: why …

The Mediating Role Of Brand Recall And Brand Attitude In Influencing Purchase Intention In Advergames, Azaze Azizi Abdul Adis, Hyung Jun Kim Oct 2013

The Mediating Role Of Brand Recall And Brand Attitude In Influencing Purchase Intention In Advergames, Azaze Azizi Abdul Adis, Hyung Jun Kim

Asia Marketing Journal

Research on purchase intention had showed remarkable progress in contributing to the theory of consumer behavior. Despite the popularity of academic discussions on various issues influencing purchase intention, the mediating role of brand recall and brand attitude on purchase intention, in particular advergames, has not yet been well explored, especially in developing economies such as Malaysia. Furthermore, the influence of self-brand congruity, entertainment and brand placement acceptance as antecedents to brand recall and brand attitude are expected to add value to the brand recall, brand attitude and purchase intention relationships. This paper aims to investigate the impact of the mediating …

Optimality Of Customer Relationship Management, Tae Ho Song, Ji Yoon Kim, Sang Yong Kim Oct 2013

Optimality Of Customer Relationship Management, Tae Ho Song, Ji Yoon Kim, Sang Yong Kim

Asia Marketing Journal

Managing customers based on customer equity (CE) has emerged as the most effective way of doing business because of its ability to foster profitable customer relationship management (CRM) through appropriate marketing activities. Most research studies provide conceptual and empirical evidence of the positive link between CE and firm performance. However, regarding this possibility, it has been suggested by some researchers that this link may not hold true for other firms with different firmographic factors, such as firm growth rate, size, and resources. As previous research emphasizes that marketing managers should implement a strategy based on their unique business environment, our …

Applying The Multiple Cue Probability Learning, So Won Ahn, Ju Young Kim, Young Won Ha Oct 2013

Applying The Multiple Cue Probability Learning, So Won Ahn, Ju Young Kim, Young Won Ha

Asia Marketing Journal

In the present study, we apply the multiple cue probability learning (MCPL) paradigm to examine consumer learning from feedback in repeated trials. This paradigm is useful in investigating consumer learning, especially learning the relationships between the overall quality and attributes. With this paradigm, we can analyze what people learn from repeated trials by using the lens model, i.e., whether it is knowledge or consistency. In addition to introducing this paradigm, we aim to demonstrate that knowledge people gain from repeated trials with feedback is robust enough to weaken one of the most often examined contextual effects, the asymmetric dominance effect. …

Identifying Contextual Factors Of Employee Satisfaction Of Performance Management At A Thai State Enterprise, Molraudee Saratun, Parisa Rungruang Oct 2013

Identifying Contextual Factors Of Employee Satisfaction Of Performance Management At A Thai State Enterprise, Molraudee Saratun, Parisa Rungruang

The South East Asian Journal of Management

Although there has been an increase in Performance Management (PM) literature over the years arguing that PM perceptions are likely to be a function of PM process components and contextual factors, the actual relationship between the contextual factors and employee satisfaction of PM remains little explored. Extending previous research, this study examines relationships between contextual factors and employees’ PM satisfaction. Derived from the literature, these contextual factors are motivation and empowerment of employees, role conflict, role ambiguity, perceived organisational support, procedural justice and distributive justice. Seven directional hypotheses are tested accordingly through a series of regression analyses. This article finds …

Asia Marketing Journal

Shopping is considered a ‘must-do’ activity for most people on travel. One of the major parts of tourist shopping is the purchasing of souvenirs. Souvenirs are universally associated with tourism as a commercially produced and purchased object to remind the purchaser of the experience. Recently, Korea becomes one of the most popular destinations that many Asian tourists like to visit. Among those Asian tourists, the number of Thai tourists bound for Korea shows an incredible rapid growth. Thai people pick Korea and Seoul as their favorite country and city to visit for three consecutive years since 2009. One of the …

What Factors Drive Job Seekers Attitude In Using E-Recruitment?, Ritzky Karina Brahmana, Rayenda Brahmana

The South East Asian Journal of Management

In a digital world, job seekers prefer to use e-recruitment for a vacancy searching. Thus, the explanation of the determinants of their attitude in using this technology is left unobserved. This article reports the result of a survey study on how users utilize e-recruitment to search for works. Three hundred eighty-five just-graduated undergraduate students answered questions regarding their intention of using the e-recruitment under Theory of Acceptance Model. We propose Perceived Usefulness, Perceived Ease of Use, and Perceived of Enjoyment as the determinants of the job seekers intention. Results showed that those three variables influence the decision making of job …

Factors Influencing Individual Performance In An Indonesian Government Office, Azizatul Munawaroh, Corina D. S. Riantoputra, Sally Bethesda Marpaung

The South East Asian Journal of Management

Reformation in Indonesian government offices leads to many substantial changes, and demands improved job performances while arguably loading employees with more work. This research aims to understand factors that potentially influence job performance in Indonesian government offices that carries on such reformation. Using adapted scales from previous studies, this research investigates the role of workload, responsibility for others (level of responsibility to care for other people) and need for achievement on employee’s performance. A survey to all full-time workers in an Indonesian government office is conducted. Contrary to expectation, workload does not influence employee’s performance. Instead, regression analysis demonstrates that, …

Effects Of Product Number And Brand Breadth On The Evaluations Of An Extended Product, Min Sun Yeu, Hye Yeon Yuk, Bo Ha Kim, Yoo, Seong Wan Cho, Jun Sang Yeo, Chan Su Park Oct 2013

Effects Of Product Number And Brand Breadth On The Evaluations Of An Extended Product, Min Sun Yeu, Hye Yeon Yuk, Bo Ha Kim, Yoo, Seong Wan Cho, Jun Sang Yeo, Chan Su Park

Asia Marketing Journal

This paper was motivated by two gaps in the extant literature on brand portfolio planning. First, research has shown that, as the number of products connected to a brand increases, the extended product receives more favorable evaluations. However, this result was obtained by comparing two brands with different number of products while controlling the brands` breadths. Hence one may question if the above result would hold when the brand is narrow as well as broad. Second, the literature has investigated the effect of brand breadth on the perceived fit and evaluations of an extended product within a relatively limited range …

How Do Firms Become Different? A Dynamic Model, Matthew Selove Oct 2013

How Do Firms Become Different? A Dynamic Model, Matthew Selove

Business Faculty Articles and Research

This paper presents a dynamic investment game in which firms that are initially identical develop assets that are specialized to different market segments. The model assumes that there are increasing returns to investment in a segment, for example, as a result of word-of-mouth or learning curve effects. I derive three key results: (1) Under certain conditions there is a unique equilibrium in which firms that are only slightly different focus all of their investment in different segments, causing small random differences to expand into large permanent differences. (2) If, on the other hand, sufficiently large random shocks are possible, firms …

The Impact Of Having Fewer Accounting Firms In The Auditing Profession–A Work In Process, Benjamin V. Titera, Dr. Jeff Wilks Oct 2013

The Impact Of Having Fewer Accounting Firms In The Auditing Profession–A Work In Process, Benjamin V. Titera, Dr. Jeff Wilks

Journal of Undergraduate Research

As time moves on, the number of accounting firms has decreased and the lengths of the remaining firm’s names have increased. Firms such as Arthur Anderson, Coopers & Lybrand, Price Waterhouse, Touche Ross, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Peat Marwick International, Klynveld Main Goerdeler, and Laventhol & Horwath have either evolved or disappeared. Ten years ago, it was the Big 8, by 1993, it was the Big 6, in 2001, it was the Big 5, and today it is the Big 4.
