Proceed To Checkout? The Impact Of Time In Advanced Ticket Purchase Decisions, Brendan Dwyer, Joris Drayer, Stephen L. Shapiro Jan 2013

Proceed To Checkout? The Impact Of Time In Advanced Ticket Purchase Decisions, Brendan Dwyer, Joris Drayer, Stephen L. Shapiro

Human Movement Studies & Special Education Faculty Publications

When purchasing tickets in advance, sports consumers are often faced with uncertainty. Most notably, in today's real-time environment, it can be challenging for consumers to determine how ticket prices and seat availability will change over time. Guided by the generic advanced-booking decision model, the current study investigated the role of time, ticket source (primary or secondary market), and team identification in advanced ticket purchasing by exploring a consumer's perceptions of ticket availability and finding a lower price. The results suggest the perceived likelihood of ticket availability and finding a lower priced ticket increased as the date of the game drew …

Technology Argument Frames : Examining The Impact Of Argumentation On The Development Of A Health Information Exchange Initiative, David Murithi Murungi

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

This dissertation applies the Technology Frames of Reference (TFR) theoretical lens to examine the implementation of a health information exchange (HIE) initiative in southeast USA. It extends the TFR lens by developing Toulminian argument maps to depict frame structure and employing the argument theories of Toulmin, Habermas and Perelman Olbrechts-Tyteca to help analyze the role that argumentation plays in the emergence and development of the technology frames that characterized this HIE endeavor. The argument maps developed in this dissertation helped to assess the level of argumentation within frames and to compare argumentation across frame domains. The argument maps were also …

What's Love Got To Do With It? The Role Of Brand Love In Brand Community Experience, Phillip M. Hartley

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

The work presented here explores and conceptually documents the consumer’s experience of brand communities—groups of people brought together by their mutual appreciation of a commercial brand. The relationships between individuals’ motives for joining, their participation, and the social and brand-related outcomes associated with such groups are tested. In addition, the role of Brand Love in the individual’s experience is assessed. The results of the research indicate that Participation may reduce the influence of a person’s original reasons for joining the community on the ultimate outcomes of membership. Further, a person’s degree of love for the underlying brand influences the likelihood …

Modeling Of Biorefinery Supply Chain Economic Performance With Discrete Event Simulation, Joseph S. Amundson Jan 2013

Modeling Of Biorefinery Supply Chain Economic Performance With Discrete Event Simulation, Joseph S. Amundson

Theses and Dissertations--Manufacturing Systems Engineering

As competition for fossil fuels accelerates, alternative sources of chemicals, fuels, and energy production become more appealing to researchers and the layman. Among the candidates to fill this growing niche is lignocellulosic biomass. Many researchers have examined supply chain design and optimization for biofuel and bioenergy production throughout the years. However, these models often fail to capture the variability and uncertainty inherent to the biomass supply chain. Multiple factors with high degrees of stochasticity can have major impacts on the performance of a biorefinery: weather, biomass quality, feedstock availability, and market demand for products are just a few. To begin …

Current digital media distribution platforms continue their march towards streaming service-based infrastructures, delivering content to users when and where they want it: laptops, set top boxes, home entertainment systems, and the new ubiquity: mobile devices. This model was first demonstrated by utilizing the multicast backbone technology in the early 1990s and took the better part of a decade to make inroads in changing the way individuals consume broadcast, mainstream, and syndicated video media. It took the advent of streaming technology, high-speed internet adoption, and a willingness from content owners to license their treasured content with upstart streaming media platform companies. …

The Use Of Financial Data To Monitor Competing Models Of Firm Growth, Mohamed Rashwan, Tarek Ibrahim Eldomiaty

Business Administration

1 a firm grows according to the growth of sales revenues

2 a firm grows according to cost savings

3 a firms grows according to the two factors simultaneously

This paper introduces a new measure for firm growth based on sales-weighted growth of fixed assets. The estimation method uses the properties of the discriminant analysis to build three Z-score models, each of which discriminates low-growth firms from high-growth firms based on:

a sales ratios

b cost ratios

c sales and cost ratios together

The results show that the three discriminant models …

The Effect Of Talent Management On Organizational Success: A Comparative Study In The Petroleum Sector In Egypt, Hadia Fakhreldin

There is a significant relationship between investments in talents and the ability to achieve and maintain high performance. When organizations manage human capital as a strategic asset, they will have the type of skilled workforce that is the key to achieve sustained business results and ultimately successful outcomes. This study examines the effect of TM …

Making Change Happen In The Middle (Approaches To Innovation For Library Middle Managers), Robert Farrell Jan 2013

Making Change Happen In The Middle (Approaches To Innovation For Library Middle Managers), Robert Farrell

Publications and Research

This paper seeks to provide library managers with a theoretical framework for thinking about how change is effected by those in middle management positions. Starting from the principles that change takes place within socio-culturally bounded contexts and is most successful when approached indirectly, two scenarios characteristic of many situations requiring change middle managers commonly face are then put forward. Following each scenario, a possible solution or path towards change is advanced in order to provide the reader with models for putting into practice the theoretical ideas presented. A methodology that combines theoretical frameworks and practical scenarios is adopted in order …

By Design: Ethics, Theology, And The Practice Of Engineering, Brad Kallenberg Jan 2013

By Design: Ethics, Theology, And The Practice Of Engineering, Brad Kallenberg

Theology and Religious Studies Faculty Publications

Both engineering and human living take place in a messy world, one chock full of unknowns and contingencies. "Design reasoning" is the way engineers cope with real-world contingency. Because of the messiness, books about engineering design cannot have "ideal solutions" printed in the back in the same way that mathematics textbooks can. Design reasoning does not produce a single, ideally correct answer to a given problem but rather generates a wide variety of rival solutions that vie against each other for their relative level of "satisfactoriness." A reasoning process analogous to design is needed in ethics. Since the realm of …

Categorizing Efficient Xml Compression Schemes, John N. Dyer

Journal of Business, Industry, and Economics

Web services are Extensible Markup Language (XML) applications mapped to programs, objects, databases, and comprehensive business functions. In essence, Web services transform XML documents into and out of informationtechnology systems. As more businesses turn to web services data transfer,XML has become the language of web services. Unfortunately, the structure of XML results in extremely verbose documents, often 3 times larger than ordinary content files. As XML becomes more common through Webservices applications, its large file sizes increasingly burden the systems that must utilize it. This paper provides a qualitative overview of existing andproposed schemes for efficient XML compression, proposes three …

Finding Practical Knowledge In Entrepreneurship, Edward Mcmullan, Thomas Kenworthy

Management and Marketing Faculty Publications

Research in the pre-paradigmatic, applied scientific field of entrepreneurship is characterized mainly as exploratory. This article advocates for a considerable shift toward a more effective applied research agenda. An applied research program is proposed based on modifications to a Lakatosian research program. The agenda extends beyond typical calls for more replication work to include a focus on practical outcomes, practical significance, and surprising findings among other things. The intent is to produce substantially more practical knowledge—knowledge that is useful to entrepreneurs, policy makers, educators, and scholars.
