Addressing Information Needs In Sport Management, An Interdisciplinary Field, Kendra Spahr, Stephanie Wiegand

Sport management as a scholarly discipline is relatively new, and very few students who earn doctorates in this field go into academia, instead choosing to go into practice where salaries are much higher. Due to these circumstances, literature research in sport management is difficult for students as well as librarians, as very little primary research exists in published journals and books. This poster reviews challenges for librarians, the best information resources to support academic sport management programs, common student questions, and tangential research areas that support research in this discipline.

A device for controlling temperature in a reaction chamber is disclosed. The device comprises: a bladder assembly comprising a housing dimensioned to hold a reaction chamber disposed within an interior Volume of the housing; and a first temperature-control bladder disposed within the housing, the first temperature-control bladder is configured to receive a temperature-control fluid and comprises a flexible, heat conductive Surface that comes in contact with at least a portion of an exterior surface of the reaction chamber after receiving the temperature-control fluid. Reasons for consolidation and acquisition are explored, with an emphasis on the recent economic downturn and how it has effected the wine industry. Kenz Kouture is a recently developed business venture specializing in handmade jewelry. This study was conducted to understand the market and the consumer’s wants and needs of the products and prices of this new venture. The purpose of this study was to assess the market, product development, and potential success for the custom jewelry company, Kenz Kouture. Topics for the literature review included consumer buying behavior and entrepreneurship. An online questionnaire was distributed using Facebook and utilized snowball sampling to gather data from 238 subjects. This study examined the differences in costs and profitability for established conventional and organic almond orchards in Stanislaus County, California. The study used a partial budgeting approach to compare cost and profitability for established orchards for 2010, and thus ignored transition costs. Data was obtained from UC Davis cost studies for organic almonds, and from the Green Valley Ranch in Keyes, CA for conventional almonds. Adjustments were made to the U.C. This study was undertaken to evaluate the net returns for conventional head lettuce compared to organic leaf lettuce in San Luis Obispo County. Price, yield, and costs for both lettuce systems were collected to perform a budgeting analysis projected over a twenty-year period.

Organic leaf lettuce was found to be more capable of paying finance charges and fixed commitments to produce in San Luis Obispo County. This conclusion was based on projected price and yield data along with a comparison of the profit and loss statements for the two types of lettuce for the time period of 2011 through 2030. …

We provide current evidence to show that the numbers of sponsored depositary receipts created and cross‐listed have increased by more than two‐fold over the last decade and a substantial proportion of this growth came from the emerging and developing economies. We argue that the needs of this clientele and the inadequacies of existing legal and financial system create an opportunity for reputable stock exchanges to play the role of an information and reputation intermediary and in so doing allow exchanges to leverage on their reputation capital to compete more effectively for the growing business from the emerging and developing economies. …

A Multilevel Model Of Multimarket Contact: Competence Depletion And Punctuated Forbearance Hypotheses, Thomas E. Will

Multimarket contact (MMC) research establishes a positive relationship between MMC and firm-in-market level prices and margins, supporting the mutual forbearance hypothesis that firms confronting one another in multiple markets tacitly collude. This article proposes that the MMC dynamics generating short-term firm-in-market level advantages paradoxically undermine firm-level performance over the long term. Examining recursive relationships traversing levels of analysis, I integrate a distinctive competencies perspective with the prevailing positional advantage perspective on MMC. At the firm level, I contend that MMC undermines competence development. At the population level, I propose that MMC attenuates the concentration stability upon which forbearance rests, such …
