Beyond Internal And External: A Dyadic Theory Of Relational Attributions, Marion B. Eberly, Erica Holley, Michael D. Johnson, Terence R. Mitchell

Attribution theory argues that people assess the locus of causality of achievement relevant events as either internal or external. Given the frequency of interpersonal interactions in organizations, we posit that a third category—relational attributions— may be used. Drawing on relational perspectives, we lay the conceptual foundation and develop a dyadic theory of relational attributions, proposing their antecedents and linking them to relationship-focused behaviors, which influence the quality of interpersonal links within organizations.

Flagship Funds At Hedge Fund Families, Melvyn Teo

Motivated by the stellar performance of flagship funds such as the Renaissance Medallion fund, we ask whether hedge fund firms (e.g. Renaissance Technologies) have incentives to protect the performance of their flagship funds (e.g. Medallion). We find that the flagship fund tends to outperform other funds within the fund family. The fees and redemption terms of non-flagship funds at launch is correlated with the past performance of the flagship fund. Finally, flagship fund performance has a positive impact on net flows into the other funds within the same family.

The Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED) at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) was contracted by the Planning Division of City of El Paso to conduct an economic impact analysis of the proposed construction of the Northgate Transfer Center (NTC) that will accommodate a bus rapid transit system. This report is generated for the purpose of supporting a submission for funding to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Infrastructure Investments (TIGER Discretionary Grants). This case study explored the influence tactics used by successful information services project managers at Harley-Davidson. The participants were chosen via purposeful sampling for this study. Face-to-face interviews were conducted, which brought out some themes on the qualities needed to be successful as an information services project manager. The predominant skills sets included active listening, effective communication, relationship building and organization. The influence strategies primarily mentioned by the participants were consultation and bargaining, which was similar to what was found in the review of prior research. A capstone class is the final activity for students as they complete their undergraduate requirements. Faculty in the Business and Information Technology Department at Montana Tech of The University of Montana determined to add more rigor to the capstone class that would better prepare students as they enter the work force. A student-engagement pedagogical method was selected over the traditional lecture model. Thirty-eight students completed the redesigned class and 100% of the students felt they were better prepared to move forward as they graduated from college and begin the next stage of their lives.

Women In Top Management Positions In The Sport Industry: Breaking Down The Barriers And Stereotypes, Katie Simmons

Even with the advancements that women have made throughout history, very few women have risen to the top of sports organizations. Previous research cites gender based stereotypes, segregation based on job type, and the “old boys’ network” as causes for this trend. The purpose of this study is to focus on the women currently working in the industry and explore their experiences in the work place. Seven interviews were conducted with women working in leadership positions in the sport industry. Their responses to the interview questions contradict previous findings. Event coordinators are constantly faced with the pressures of developing innovative strategies based upon new consumer desires. Because of this, planners need to be aware and receptive of consumer and participant responses. Academic Progress Rate (APR) was instituted by the NCAA in 2005 to get a real time measure of student’s academic progress. The APR is used to measure athlete’s academic progress at their institution in and out of season. Since the APR was instituted recently, literature and research involving the APR is scarce. Team success (as measured by win/loss record and postseason accomplishments) was correlated with a team’s Academic Progress Rate. Men’s Division I college basketball did not show any significant findings between Academic Progress Rates and team success. Men’s Division I college football showed that as teams have more success …

The Rooney Rule in the NFL was created in order to create an atmosphere of racial equality and fairness when relating to hiring practices.
