The Stability Of Time- Versus Money-Based Product Evaluations, Leonard Lee, Michelle P. Lee, Gal Zauberman
The Stability Of Time- Versus Money-Based Product Evaluations, Leonard Lee, Michelle P. Lee, Gal Zauberman
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
Consumers constantly make product decisions involving temporal and monetary considerations. In this work, we examine how consideration of these two fundamental economic resources influences the stability of product evaluations. Results from a series of seven experiments demonstrate that, despite prior research that has shown that the valuation of time is more ambiguous and context-dependent than the valuation of money, time-based product preferences tend to be more consistent than money-based product preferences. Our findings support an affect-based account: compared to monetary considerations, temporal considerations elicit greater reliance on feelings versus analytical evaluation, which facilitates holistic judgments and promotes preference consistency. Consequently, …

Fraud Detection In Online Consumer Reviews, Nan Hu, Ling Liu, Vallabh Sambamurthy

Increasingly, consumers depend on social information channels, such as user-posted online reviews, to make purchase decisions. These reviews are assumed to be unbiased reflections of other consumers' experiences with the products or services. While extensively assumed, the literature has not tested the existence or non-existence of review manipulation. By using data from Amazon and Barnes & Noble, our study investigates if vendors, publishers, and writers consistently manipulate online consumer reviews. We document the existence of online review manipulation and show that the manipulation strategy of firms seems to be a monotonically decreasing function of the product's true quality or the …

The Effect Of Technology Type On The Adoption And Effectiveness Of Global Environmental Standards, Ben William Lewis, Glen W. S. Dowell
The Effect Of Technology Type On The Adoption And Effectiveness Of Global Environmental Standards, Ben William Lewis, Glen W. S. Dowell
Faculty Publications
We describe the role of technological change and technology type in affecting environmental performance. We argue that one of the key constraints on a firm’s ability to improve its environmental performance is the technology in which it is embedded. We develop hypotheses regarding the influence of technology type on a firm’s global environmental strategy, and test these hypotheses using a panel of MNEs. We find that technology type does influence a firm’s global environmental strategy, and the financial return associated with using a global environmental standard.

Recently strategic alliance between business firms has become prevalent to overcome increasing competitive threats and to supplement resource limitation of individual firms. As one of allianced sales promotion activities, a new type of discount program, so called "Alliance Card Discount", is introduced with the partnership of credit cards and loyalty cards. The program mainly pursues short-term sales growth by larger discount scheme while spends less through cost share among alliance partners. Thus this program can be regarded as cost efficient discount promotion. But because there is no solid evidence that it can really deliver profitable sales growth, an empirical study …

In 2005, Yuhan Kimberly found interesting points in the existing customers` U&A survey on the kitchen towel. The usage of Korean consumers is usually restricted to getting rid of the oil from the fans and the fried food. This usage limits could be the barrier to the diffusion of kitchen towel. Although consumers were worried about the hygiene situations about the dishcloth, they also percieved that the existing paper kitchen towels were short of something to soothe their inconveniences. As a result, the company made a decision to seek out the solution for the consumers` worries. The relative shortage of …

Brand names are often considered as a part of product and important extrinsic cues of product evaluation, when consumers make purchasing decisions. For a company, brand names are also important assets. Building a strong brand name in the Chinese commonwealth is a main challenge for many global companies. One of the first problem global company has to face is how to translate English brand name into Chinese brand name. It is very difficult decision because of cultural and linguistic differences. Western languages are based on an alphabet phonetic system, whereas Chinese are based on ideogram. Chinese speakers are more likely …

Digital economy has grown rapidly so that the new business area called `Internet business` has been dramatically extended as time goes on. However, in the case of Internet business, market shares of individual companies seem to fluctuate very extremely. Thus marketing managers who operate the Internet sites have seriously observed the competition structure of the Internet business market and carefully analyzed the competitors` behavior in order to achieve their own business goals in the market. The newly created Internet business might differ from the offline ones in management styles, because it has totally different business circumstances when compared with the …

In the past, retailers secured customer loyalty by offering convenient locations, unique assortments of goods, better services than competitors, and good credit policy. All this has changed. Goods assortments among stores have become more alike as national-brand manufacturers place their goods in more and more retail stores. Service differentiation also has eroded. Many department stores have trimmed services, and many discount stores have increased theirs. Customers have become smarter shoppers. They don`t pay more for identical brands, especially when service differences have diminished. In the face of increased competition from discount storess and specialty stores, department stores are waging a …

An Evaluation Of Indonesian Capital Market Co-Integration With Asean 4 To Enter The Asean Capital Market Integration In Accordance To Asean Economic Community (Aec) 2020 Scheme: Should Indonesia Enter Or Postpone?, Barli Suryanta
The Indonesian Capital Market Review
Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Economic Community (AEC) 2020 has already been declared on 7 October 2003 by ASEAN Concord II in Bali, Indonesia. In general, AEC was designed to prepare ASEAN countries for ASEAN economic integration within the next 10-15 year. ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) had actually been launched since 1992 though was not comprehensive enough and kept ASEAN only partially integrated. To overcome it, ASEAN proposed inancial integration through capital market integration based on AEC commitment in order to reach comprehensive ASEAN economic integration. Indonesia is one of the ASEAN members that is linked by …

The empirical exploration of the links between the development of the Moroccan inancial sector (MFS) and the economic performance of the country shed some light on the proile of this relationship. It appears that even if the indicators measuring the degree of development of the MFS have steadily evolved, they are …

The Indonesian Capital Market Review
Asia's financial crisis in July 1997 affects currency, capital market, and real market throughout Asian countries. Countries in southeast region (ASEAN), including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, are some of the countries where the crisis hit the most. In these countries, where financial sectors are far more developed than real sectors and the money market sectors, most of the economic activities are conducted in capital market. Movement in the capital market could be a proxy to describe the overall economic situation and therefore the prediction of it could be an early warning system of economic crises. This paper tries …
