Do fund incentives, volatility exposure, and liquidity risk affect fund performance? We show that hedge funds with high performance fees and high water mark provisions tend to outperform those with low performance fees and no high water marks. Moreover, funds that short volatility and embrace liquidity risk deliver significantly higher returns relative to funds that long volatility and eschew liquidity risk. Investors with access to secure capital and managed account platforms may be positioned to take advantage of these performance differences.

“Yak, A Green Icon and Good Investment” was conceived after I briefly interned for the Mongol Yak Society during the NGO Drop Off. I became interested and even, invested in their mission. For three weeks of the ISP period, I worked closely with the Mongolian Yak Society based in Ulaanbaatar and researched how increasing the productive value of yaks through improved communications, equipment, knowledge, and support will address several key environmental and economic issues. While the importance of logistics service competency is widely acknowledged, more research is needed to investigate its antecedents. In this conceptual paper, we synthesize extant marketing and logistics/supply chain literature and propose a new concept - logistics service orientation, which consists of both logistics service’s internal and external market orientation. It is argued that a firm’s logistics service orientation has direct impacts on its logistics service performance. In addition, it is also proposed that this impact can be indirectly achieved through enhanced internal integration. This study explored the extent to which the stated corporate values are enacted by leaders at Harley-Davidson Motor Company. The participants were chosen by a criterion based sampling method. The criterion used included the researcher’s personal subjective perceptions of the participant, tenure within the company, and level within the company. The study provided insight into employee perceptions related to leadership’s engagement with the values. It also provided insights into the relative engagement levels between immediate supervisors and higher level supervisors based on the stated corporate values. Top tier professional soccer in the United States is operated by Major League Soccer (MLS). The MLS was established and operates under a single entity structure, such that all players negotiate and sign contracts with the league rather than with individual teams. This monopsonistic structure was designed to eliminate competition for players across teams within the league and thus allow the league to suppress player salaries. This paper investigates how effective the MLS has been in achieving this goal and finds that the MLS devotes only about 25 percent of its revenues to player salaries, compared to 50 to 60 …

Previous studies have found that physical activity is associated with greater academic achievements among students. However, it remains unclear whether associations are present in both aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between aerobic exercise, anaerobic exercise and academic outcomes in college students. Data was drawn from a survey administered to undergraduate students attending St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. During the 2009 and 2010 seasons the Rochester Rhinos soccer club has experienced a downturn in match attendance. The team has been in their new, soccer specific stadium, for the last five seasons. After two seasons of promising attendance, the last three seasons have been about the lowest in the team’s 15-year history. Is the “honeymoon” over already? What drives attendance to Rhinos matches? This study looked at 10 variables that have an effect on attendance. Using attendance data from the 2000 and 2010 seasons, this study ran correlation and regression analysis. Polishing Diamonds In The Rough: The Sources Of Syndicated Venture Performance, Sanjiv R. Das, Hoje Jo, Yongtae Kim

Using an effort-sharing framework for VC syndicates, we assess how syndication impacts investment returns, chances of successful exit, and the time taken to exit. With data from 1980-2003, and applying apposite econometrics for endogeneity to these different performance measures, we are able to ascribe much of the better return to selection, with the value-addition by monitoring role significantly impacting the likelihood and time of exit. While the extant literature on Venture Capital (VC) syndication is divided about the relative importance of the "selection" and "value-add" hypotheses, we find that their roles are complementary.

The H-1B visa program allows for United States employers to supplement their workforce with high-skilled foreign workers. Issues arise for these workers when transitioning their lives to the U.S because they have to adapt to a new culture and are exposed to a constantly changing work environment. This exploratory study addresses how these individuals identify with their employing organization and their clients. The findings show that the H-1B contract workers identify more with the client organization as opposed to the employer, who was viewed by the majority as the “payroll department.” Primary factors of such client identification include treatment and …

The Liquidity Risk Of Liquid Hedge Funds, Melvyn Teo

This paper evaluates hedge funds that grant favorable redemption terms to investors. Within this group of purportedly liquid funds, high net inflow funds subsequently outperform low net inflow funds by 4.79 percent per year after adjusting for risk. The return impact of fund flows is stronger when funds embrace liquidity risk, when market liquidity is low, and when funding liquidity, as measured by the TED spread, aggregate hedge fund flows, and prime broker stock returns, is tight. The number of dual-career couples, workers with eldercare responsibility, single-parent families, and working parents with young children has become increasingly common in the American workplace (Breaugh & Frye, 2008) and has led to increased work-family conflicts for the park and recreation professional. In response to these workforce changes, family-friendly employee benefits programs (FFEBP) are becoming more readily available and offered by public park and recreation agencies. Guided by these challenges, this study sought to explore the link between FFEBP and job attitudes (organizational commitment) and employee motivation (self-efficacy) among public park and recreation employees.
