The “Boise Pit”: A Peek Beyond The Wall, Paris Gaudin, John Hagadorne, Justy Thomas, Chris Warth, Adam Wolfe

Our research examines the impact of the “Boise Pit” on the local area economy. We consider the lost tax revenue and missed opportunity costs to estimate the overall cost to society. In light of the recent budget cuts and subsequent controversial educational reform plans being adopted to stretch our tax dollars, this research explores how a completed Boise Tower project could have generated much-needed revenue for the city. How many teacher salaries, buses or laptops could the Boise School District afford with the potential revenue from a completed Boise Tower project?

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the arguments concerning corporate social responsibility (CSR). The two sides of the debate are stakeholder theory and shareholder theory. Proponents of stakeholder theory support providing for the discretionary expectations of society. On the other hand, advocates of shareholder theory maintain that businesses should simply obey the law and maximize shareholder wealth. Although CSR is enthusiastically espoused by many social progressives, it is not a panacea for society’s ills. The conclusion of this study is that corporations should focus on legally maximizing shareholder wealth based on ethical principles. CSR should only be pursued …

New Evidence On The Wealth Transfer During The Argentine Crisis, James Lam, Elisabeta Pana, Faculty Advisor

In this study, we investigate the wealth preservation hypothesis and revisit the theory of wealth transfer from Argentina to the United States during the Argentine crisis. We show that the boom experienced by the Argentine stock market is explained by both wealth preservation through top non-ADR stocks and by wealth transfer through ADR stocks. Argentine investors without access to trading abroad preserved wealth by converting their bank deposits into the most liquid ADR and non-ADR stocks. An investment in a portfolio of less liquid ADRs resulted in a wealth loss, unless used as a vehicle to transfer funds abroad.

Performance feedback has been used to successfully modify behaviors in an assortment of workplace settings. Adding behavioral consequences and/or goal settings to feedback improves the overall behavioral effects and consistencies. When goal settings and feedback are combined, they have been proven to affect performance positively by increasing the information and motivation needed to execute work tasks in their entirety. The current study examined the effects of goal setting and graphic feedback on closing task completion in a nationwide drugstore chain.

The Fama-French Model is believed to be a major improvement over the ever-popular Capital Asset Pricing Model, CAPM. The Capital Asset Pricing Model uses a single factor beta to compare the excess returns of a portfolio with the excess returns of the market as a whole, but is said to oversimplify the complex market. This report summarizes the findings of the Florida Turnpike Service Plaza retail Store survey, which was conducted October/2010- February 2011. Customers were surveyed in five service plazas, specifically Turkey Lake, Port St. Lucie/Ft. Pierce, West Palm Beach, Canoe Creek, and Fort Drum. A focused group research was also conducted by the Rosen College Faculty. Rosen's College- University of Central Florida- graduate and undergraduate students collected data using intercept method of data collection. Relationships In Fast Moving Consumer Goods Markets: The Consumers’ Perspective, Rose Leahy

Purpose: This study explores relationship marketing and the existence of relationships in mass consumer markets from the consumers’ perspective, with the focus on the Fast Moving Consumer Good (FMCG) sector.

Methodology Approach: A total of 10 focus groups were conducted with consumers from a broad range of demographic and socio-economic backgrounds to enable in-depth exploration of the research issue.

Findings: The study highlights the dominant negative attitudes that exist among consumers to relationship marketing as it is operationalised in FMCG markets. It is found that from the consumers’ perspective relationships do not and cannot exist in these markets and that …

Scholars have identified a potential community college leadership crisis as a large percentage of community college presidents prepare to retire (Shults, 2001; Weisman & Vaughan, 2007). The most common pathway to the community college presidency has been through the chief academic officer (CAO) position (Vaughan, 1990).
