Management scholars within the disciplines of Organizational Behavior (OB), Human Resource Management (HRM or HR) and Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology seek to study and promote employee productivity and welfare within organizations. While there are differing foci across these three disciplinary areas, their researchers and practitioners strive for equilibrium between the needs of employees and employers. Events leading to the breakup of Arthur Anderson and Co. included the failure of Enron and other evidence of financial reporting irregularities. Many of these irregularities involved restatement of financial statements due to error. During the last several years, numerous articles in the accounting literature and accounting press have chronicled such restatements and the often associated change in auditor. This paper analyzes restatements due to error and auditor changes made by Fortune 500 companies during 2001 and 2002 in order to assess whether restatements due to error lowered or raised income and whether companies with income-decreasing errors showed a greater …

An assessment of the park and recreation-related educational programs and departments within the United States indicates an increasing presence of web-based distance learning (WBDL) environments. According to a voluntary listing posted on NRPA’s official website, over 35 courses are offered within a WBDL environment with almost 20 U.S. colleges and universities participating. In addition, some programs currently offer a 100% WBDL baccalaureate and/or master degree. These numbers are also somewhat conservative as additional programs offered by universities continue to emerge as evident by the dialogue and postings on the online discussion forum of the Society of Park and Recreation Educators …

Using Audio-Visual Technology In Online Teaching: A Study Of Students' Reactions, Frank Wyrostek, James Haefner
Journal of Business & Leadership: Research, Practice, and Teaching (2005-2012)
This study surveyed students who had taken an online managerial finance classes to measure the effectiveness and impact of audio-visual technologies on anxiety levels, preferred learning styles, satisfaction, and ease in mastering course material. Results showed that a learning style that favors both audio and visual teaching methods existed. Using audio-visual pedagogical techniques helped reduce students’ anxiety levels and created a more personal atmosphere for the online class. The benefits of a more personal environment significantly correlated with both mastering the material and understanding complex processes involved in finance. Developing critical thinkers is an objective of businesses, higher education, and accrediting institutions. Business educators are challenged with how to teach critical thinking skills and how to evaluate the effectiveness of these methods. This quasi-experimental study used a pretest-posttest design with a control group to assess critical thinking skills in undergraduate business students enrolled in Organizational Behavior classes. The hypothesis was that using the humanities to teach business concepts would improve student critical thinking as assessed by the California Critical Thinking Skills Tests (CCTST). In the current business environment, leadership development is a critical strategic organizational imperative because viability is ultimately dependent upon leadership. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-International (AACSB) is widely to world’s foremost accrediting agency of business schools. AACSB promotional literature asserts AACSB accreditation is associated with higher qualify business education and higher quality business school graduates. The assertion of higher quality is somewhat controversial and to date has not been well supported by empirical evidence. The research presented below investigates whether recent business school graduates taking the uniform certified public accountants exam score higher when from AACSB accredited institutions rather than when from non- AACSB accredited institutions. The purpose of this study was to test the semi-strong form efficient market hypothesis by analyzing the effects of stock repurchase announcements on stock price. Specifically, is it possible to earn an above normal return on a publicly traded stock when thefirm announces a stock repurchase? Numerous past studies suggest that with a stock repW'chase announcement goes a positive signal about the company's future, thereby significantly increasing the firm's stock price. Two-Stage Least Squares: Simultaneous Determination Of Days On Market, Length Of Contract, And Percentage Overpriced, Caitlin Hooe

In this paper, we examine the simultaneous determination of time on market (TOM), length of listing contract (LOC) and percentage overpriced (POP) of residential real estate listings. Our fundamental speculation is that overpriced properties and those that have extended listing contracts will incur a longer TOM. The finding of this research confirms that the more a property is overpriced, the longer it will take to sell. Similarly, as LOC increases so does the expected TOM. This may be helpful knowledge for a potential seller in determining the listing contract duration assuming realistic price expectations. These findings assume the absence of …

In the case of a land constraint economy such as the Philippines, the efficient allocation of land to its various uses is essential. This constraint is further intensified by the growing population and increased demand for commercial land. The process of land classification is only the first step in managing land resources.
