Although financial accounting practices in business have capitalized on the use of technology, this technology has not been fully integrated in higher education for accounting students. While traditional accounting courses laboriously involve rote transcription of debits and credits, educational technology in accounting courses may prove inherently beneficial. Faculty members designed and offered a paperless accounting course that utilized a variety of technologies. This study explored student perceptions regarding the satisfaction and effectiveness of three of these technologies: 1) the Classroom Performance System (CPS) response pad (clicker) from eInstruction.com, 2) PC Tablet (teacher use); and 3) WebCT. Regulatory pressure is a source of increasing concern for California producers. Though regulations have a positive impact on society in terms of cleaner air and water, as well as increased worker safety; they impose multiple costs to farmers in the state. Growers must comply with a tangle of rules from the local, state and federal levels. Many regional differences arise in California environmental regulations, and regulatory pressure is unevenly applied throughout the state.

This project identifies the benefits of integrating the Congregational Building Campaign with Catholic Social Teaching as a means of supporting the Catholic parish in responding to Second Vatican Council's call for social engagement on behalf of the parish. It includes a literature review of the necessity of lay leadership in the Catholic Church, the importance of understanding Catholic Social Teaching and parish social ministry, and the benefits of participation in community organizing. In February 2002, the regulation of appointing independent directors in the boardroom was set forth in "Corporate Governance Best-Practice Principles for TSEC/GTSM Listed Companies" (CGBPP). Since the enactment of the amended "Security and Exchange Act" in 2006, all listed companies are required to appoint independent directors, not less than two in number and not less than one-fifth of the total number of directors.

In addition to implementing the independent directors system, in order to enhance director competencies and director behavior, the TSEC announced the "Guideline for Promotion of Advanced Study by Directors and Supervisors of TSEC/GTSM Listed Companies." In this …

The Lincoln Smoking Regulation Act which prohibited smoking in most public places and places of employment in Lincoln, Nebraska including restaurants and bars was implemented in January 2005. This report examines the impact of the ordinance on the following measures of business activity in Lincoln:

• Sales revenue of eating and drinking places

• Employment of eating and drinking places

• Gross revenues from keno.

Over the past 25 years, India’s economy grew at an average real rate of close to 6 percent, yet by the end of this period, the general government debt-to-GDP ratio was 34 percentage points higher. We examine the links between the public finances and growth in the post-1991 period. The persistent combination of high growth and high fiscal deficits appears less schizophrenic once macro-micro linkages and lags are taken into account. We argue that the main factor in the deterioration of government debt dynamics after the mid-1990s was not fiscal profligacy but a reform-induced loss in trade, customs and financial …

Seven years ago, Rajesh Jain ignited a dot-com storm in India when his portal, IndiaWorld, was sold to Sify, an Internet service provider, for $115 million. Today, he is CEO of Netcore, a Linux-based messaging software firm, and also maintains an active blog, emergic.org. Jain met with Knowledge@Wharton at his offices in Mumbai to discuss how mobile phones could hold the key to the Internet's evolution in India and other emerging economies.

By making enrollment automatic, minimizing the use of the employer's stock, expanding the role of annuities and improving employees' financial knowledge, according to a set of recommendations issued by the Financial Economists Roundtable, a group of about 50 prominent economists, including several Wharton faculty members.

Organizational Change Of Parking Systems At University Of Colorado Hospital, Sarah S. Kabat

During a move from the 9th Avenue campus to the new Fitzsimons campus, University of Colorado Hospital made improvements to the existing parking policies. The new parking policies were met with resistance and complaints by employees. This problem caused employee tardiness, lowered morale, and decreased job satisfaction. Data gathered through secondary data, questionnaires and group interviews provided information establishing the extent and nature of the resistance to the new parking policies. Validity was enhanced through multiple methods. In this paper, we study the long-run co-movement among the real interest rates of the U.S., Canada, and a select group of Latin American countries to assess the extent of financial market integration between these countries during a period of high capital mobility. The findings of the study support a long-run relationship between the short-term U.S. real interest rate and those of the Latin American countries, while it fails to support such a relationship between the U.S. and Canadian real interest rates.

The current research analyses the roles of personality, business environment and accounting information in order to explain variations in the change to iron shipbuilding, focusing on two particular firms, Laing and Doxford, these firms being selected for research on the basis of the availability of archive material (Note 1). Why The Fight Against Poverty Is Failing: A Contrarian View, Knowledge@Smu

Abraham George is the founder of The George Foundation, an NGO engaged in humanitarian work in India, and the author of India Untouched: The Forgotten Face of Rural Poverty. In this contrarian essay, he explores why the current strategies that governments and development agencies are employing to reduce poverty are not working the way they should. Among his arguments: Microcredit programs, as they are now practiced in India, do little to help the poor.
