In this work, Abu Yusuf highlighted the position of land taxation (al-kharaj) according to Islamic perspective. ln other words, it tries to view Islamic rulings concerning land tax, its procedures as well as its measurement. Customer relationships have received considerable attention from both academics and practitioners. It is accepted that relationship marketing is keeping, not just getting customers, (Berry, 1983). There are many objectives for corporate philanthropic activity beyond altruism. Financial gain, increased image, and thwarting negative publicity have been suggested as potential objectives for corporate giving. This dissertation develops a 2X2 classification schema as a framework for empirical investigation and managerial decision making. Additionally this dissertation examines current models of corporate philanthropy and develops a new model for the use of philanthropy in crisis management using stakeholder theory. This study examined the relationship between ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems and profitability to determine if there is any relationship between implementation of ISO 9000 and their profit or loss. Fortune 500 companies in the United States were selected as the research population.

Data were collected from Fortune magazine, Quality magazine, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), ISO Survey, ISO Secretariat, Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB), and ISO Directory of ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 Accreditation and Certifications Bodies. Companies that remajned on the Fortune 500 list from 1990 to 2000 were selected for this study.

This article provides an exploratory analysis of the role of subprime lending through an examination of the spatial distribution of Federal Housing Administration (FHA)—eligible home purchase loans in the primary and secondary mortgage markets. Loan originations are aggregated to the metropolitan statistical area level to examine the proportion of the market served by FHA, prime, and subprime lenders. The article then examines whether subprime lenders hold their loans in portfolio or sell them to private conduits.

Primary market results indicate that subprime lenders are more active in cities with worse economic risk characteristics. Secondary market results indicate that although subprime …

Pricing And Product Mix Optimization In Freight Transportation, Michael F. Gorman

We propose improved pricing and market mix can improve the profitability of the freight transportation provider through the reduction of equipment repositioning costs. We hypothesize that because of complexities surrounding pricing and equipment repositioning costing, existing pricing strategies in freight transportation fail to fully consider these costs. We test this hypothesis in an applied setting in which Monte Carlo simulation captures the stochasticity of market conditions inherent in the problem. We use a heuristic to improve the nondifferentiable, discontinuous objective function.

the impact that race has on leisure behavior and preferences, but

there remains a paucity of research that addresses the issue of race in the leisure services workplace. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of inequity, discrimination, and promotion opportunities among African Americans in the field of public parks and recreation. The study was conducted in multiple phases, and all included African Americans who were working for public recreation agencies in a midwestern state. The Existence Of Gender-Specific Promotion Standards In The U.S., Kathy Paulson Gjerde

Scholarship and Professional Work - Business

This paper is motivated by the claim that promotion probabilities are lower for women than men. Using data from the 1984 and 1989 National Longitudinal Youth Surveys, this paper tests this claim and two related hypotheses concerning training and ability. It is found that females are less likely to be promoted than males, and females receive less training than males. The relationship between promotion and gender varies across occupations, however, suggesting that the alleged glass ceiling faced by women and other minorities in the workplace is not uniform across all labor markets.

This empirical cross-cultural research was conducted to confirm four hypotheses. The hypotheses included: 1) For American managers there will be at least a 0.55 correlation or more among their ethics, economic, and management attitudes; 2) American managers more than Danish managers will tend to emphasize control in their ethics, economic, and management attitudes; 3) Danish managers more than American managers will exhibit emphasis and correlation among Virtue Ethics, Community Capitalism, and Human Relations theories and attitudes; 4) Danish managers more than American managers will exhibit extreme managerial practice attitudes according to the Competing Values Framework. For an electronic business (e-business), customer satisfaction can be the difference between long-term success and short-term failure. Customer satisfaction is highly impacted by Web server availability, as customers expect a Web site to be available twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Unfortunately, unscheduled Web server downtime is often beyond the control of the organization. What is needed is an effective means of identifying and recovering from Web server downtime in order to minimize the negative impact on the customer. The need to close Midland Saleyard is a result of endorsement by Cabinet of proposals by the Midland Redevelopment Authority (MRA). The Midland Saleyard is a significant impediment to the MR.A achieving a "high revenue scenario" return on the development of the site. The MRA would like to have the saleyard closed within about two years.

Against this background, the Meat Industry Authority (MIA) prepared a report on the relocation of Midland and recommended Muchea as its preferred location for replacement saleyard capacity. Under MIA's scenario, it would own and operate the new saleyard.
