This paper was written specifically for the OECD Third Asian Roundtable on Corporate Governance, held in Singapore in April 2001, the theme of which was "the Role of Boards and Stakeholders in Corporate Governance". It goes without saying that a significant part of corporate governance is about managerial control and accountability. The duties imposed on directors, how Board members are chosen, Board composition, the interaction between members, the roles and responsibilities that Boards undertake, both as a whole and by their individual members, all have significant impact on the efficacy and propriety of the Board in fulfilling its functions. Assessor Training Strategies And Their Effects On Accuracy, Interrater Reliability, And Discriminant Validity, Filip Lievens

This study compares the effects of data-driven assessor training with schema-driven assessor training and control training. The sample consisted of 229 industrial and organizational psychology students and 161 managers who were randomly assigned to 1 of these training strategies. Participants observed and rated candidates in an assessment center exercise. The data-driven and schema-driven assessor training approaches outperformed the control training on all 3 dependent variables. The schema-driven assessor training resulted in the largest values of interrater reliability, dimension differentiation, and accuracy. Managers provided significantly more-accurate ratings than students but distinguished less between the dimensions. Practical implications regarding the design of …

The purpose of this study was to determine the economic impact of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT) on the Hampton Roads, Virginia economy. The Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is a four-day all-star basketball tournament featuring college seniors from across the United States. No study has been done on the PIT in the past and this presented an additional need for this research to be undertaken. This study provided valuable information to local officials for future planning of this and other City of Portsmouth events. Clark County School District is one of the largest school districts in the nation with a student population of 203,616 for 1998-1999. Talk of deconsolidating Clark County School District has been proposed by Assembly persons. However, as recent as November 2000, another initiative for deconsolidation and reconfigurations had not been approved by the voters. One of the issues surrounding deconsolidation is the district's bond debt. An equitable division has not been reached should Clark County School District deconsolidate. This paper deals with dividing the bond debt equally among eight districts (identified in an earlier study of deconsolidation) and assessing whether …

I have prepared this paper for the Department of Public Administration in partial fulfillment of a Masters of Public Administration degree. AFIT research in support of the Advanced Logistics Project is directed at developing a Mission-Resource Value Assessment Tool for rationally assigning relative value to resources and identifying alternative force mixes to logistics and operational planners. Research of factors that affect force mix composition has been strictly limited to how the operating environment of USAF combat aircraft influences their performance in specified aerospace missions. In contrast, this research makes use of an aircraft's designed suitability to perform specified aerospace missions in order to examine the tradeoff between mission suitability and the amount of lift needed to deploy and operate the asset. …

Jp-8+100lt: A Low Cost Replacement Of Jpts As The Primary Fuel For The U-2 Aircraft, Christian G. Simms

The Air Force currently spends approximately $ 10 million dollars annually on fuel support for the U-2 aircraft. The U-2 has used a jet fuel known as JPTS since the aircraft's development in the 1950's. JPTS is a specialty fuel used only by the U-2 and is produced by two oil refineries in the United States. As such, it has limited worldwide availability and costs over three times the per-gallon price of the Air Force's primary jet fuel, JP-8. Recent research performed at the Air Force Research Laboratory Propulsion Directorate suggests that additives could be added to JP-8, which would …
