This research began with the two premises. The first is that stronger, healthier, more vibrant communities more effectively support pregnant women, their infants and the families. The second premise is that private independent foundations in the United States are engaged in a multitude of activities designed to help distressed communities and have significant tacit knowledge about how to do this work. I reviewed the literature on the concept of theories in use and discovered that the literature asserted that they exist and that they can be found through a dialogical interview process. Being the most senior woman executive in an educations institution, there appeared to be no senior individuals available to assume a role on our board and to illustrate the possible role women executives could play. Sales taxes have been a much-depended on source of revenue for local governments since the early part of the 1900’s. Southern Nevada local governments rely relatively heavily on sales and use taxes for a source of income. In 1998, the United States Congress passed an Act that imposed a moratorium on Internet sales tax collection until October 2001. With the explosive growth in Internet sales, the issue of the failed collection of an Internet sales tax has come to the forefront of local government finance discussions.

Economics instruction in U.S. high schools is basically delivered in two ways. About half of high-school students take a required or elective course in economics, according to transcript data. The great majority of these students (about 95 percent) enroll in a regular course that focuses on basic economic concepts with applications. The remaining small percentage of students take a college-oriented course that is often called “honors” or Advanced Placement (AP) economics. Research is essential for improvement in teaching and learning economics. William E. Becker et al. (1991) called for new research on the relative merits of multiple-choice and essay tests, on the lasting effects of course work in economics, and on the effects of instructors, instructional techniques, and new technologies on student learning. To respond to the call, the Committee on Economic Education (CEE) of the American Economic Association recruited Robin Bartlett, William Becker, W. Lee Hansen, Peter Kennedy, and the authors to organize a conference that would jump-start new research projects.

Previous studies on the construct validity of assessment centres have generally produced puzzling results. The premise of this study is that these prior studies were relatively one-sided. Actually, most previous studies were field studies, which typically used the multitrait-multimethod approach to distinguish between two sources of variance (i.e., exercises and dimensions). Therefore, this study aims to shed light on the issue of assessment centre construct validity by addressing substantive and methodological concerns inherent in previous research. In this study, 85 industrial and organizational psychology students and 39 managers rated videotaped assessment centre candidates in three exercises on six dimensions. Results …

This study examines the impact that Ohio's higher education instructional support funding process has on decision-making at two-year colleges. In Ohio, instructional support subsidizes credit (degree-eligible) but not non-credit instruction. The study methodology included six colleges selected on the basis of how active or inactive they were in the provision of job-related non-credit training against their predicted activity. The colleges selected represent the three relatively most and least active institutions. Interviews were conducted at the six colleges with the President, Chief Academic Officer, Chief Fiscal Officer and Chief Non-Credit Instruction Officer. A primary challenge of the AFIT Mission Resource Value Assessment Tool is to approximate a given preference curve with integer valued mission ready resources. This thesis evaluated four candidate methods of accomplishing this approximation. The thesis evaluated the implementation of the integer estimation approximation from a purely mathematical perspective. The models were measured against six quality and error measurement standards: convergence on an endpoint, convergence on any interior integer points, characterization of the overall error between the sequence of integer coordinates and the real valued linear function and characterization of the error in each individual dimension of the problem space. …

Controversy surrounds the adjudication of the United States Navy (USN) commander whose submarine collided with and then sank a Japanese fishing boat in February 200l. The USN has Issued a letter of reprimand to the commander and is allowing him to leave the Navy with full pension based on his current rank, as opposed to authorizing a court-martial that would have rendered the commander liable to very serious criminal charges and sentences. At Issue have been the effects of the adjudication on military personnel aware of the adjudication.

The NHL playoffs are underway, the NBA playoffs are off and running, and the eternal hope of spring has been let loose with the opening month of baseball season. Even the Cubs are pennant contenders. It's all a reminder that for everything else blotting the landscape of sport, the game is still the thing.
