In October 1997, Wright State University’s Center for Economic Education administered a survey to 1,246 primary and secondary school teachers within the Center’s 15-county designated service area. The target population of the survey consisted of those teachers that incorporate economic concepts and principles in their classroom curriculum. The primary purpose of the survey was to identify the reasons why enrollments for the Center’s courses were low and what could potentially be done to increase them. The results of the survey indicated that the low enrollment rates for the Center were mainly due to the need for increased advertising of the …

Dealing with conflict between workers and managers is an ongoing concern for management specialists. Models have been introduced to help manage the conflict in the workplace. Two are examined in this thesis; Interest Based Bargaining and the Japanese Management Style. Both models seek to lessen the conflict in the workplace by utilizing problem solving tools and communication tools that will provide a balance of the control that governs the work process. The Relationship Between Size And Return For Foreign Real Estate Investments, C. Mitchell Conover, H. Swint Friday, Shelly W. Howton

In this study, we utilize a relatively new database to examine whether small foreign real estate firms have higher returns than large foreign real estate firms. We examine this issue from the perspective of a U.S. investor who forms portfolios of international real estate firms on the basis of U.S. dollar market value of equity. Using eleven years of foreign real estate data for more than 1200 observations in twenty countries, we find that large firms have higher returns and lower risk than small firms. These results hold when returns are denominated in either local currency or dollars. Further, the …

A study restates and then extends a thesis about the performance appraisal process first published almost 15 years ago - that the public manager's performance in the face-to-face encounter of the appraisal interview itself is the Achilles' heel of the entire process. This 1983 article held that many public managers experience discomfort approaching the actual performance appraisal interview and difficulty in conducting it. They are usually untrained and may even be unaware of the scholarly work that has identified the skills that make for more effective face-to-face communication.
