FACNET is a computer network that moves Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) from the Department of Defense (DoD) and federal buying sites to and from the certified Value Added Network (VAN).

For the past decade, the motion picture industry has been heavily scrutinized for its questionable accounting practices. This paper reviews these practices and shows how motion picture companies have manipulated accounting numbers to further their financial interests. The paper also discusses several proposed reforms to restore the public's faith in the financial assessment of motion picture companies.

A Study Of Employment System Of Japanese Multinational Retailers In Hong Kong, Mei Ling, May Wong

Hong Kong Institute of Business Studies Working Paper Series

This study examines the employment system of Japanese multinational retailing corporations in Hong Kong through two case companies - Morioka and Okadaya. The human resource management (HRM) practices – recruitment and selection, remuneration, and training and development - of the companies are studied. The different HRM practices applied to different groups of employees within each case company are compared using an employment systems model. The employment system is structured and mu1ti-layered. Women's Employment Status In Two Japanese Retail Stores In Hong Kong, Mei Ling, May Wong

This study examines the employment status of women employees working for two Japanese department stores in Hong Kong. Empirical evidence reveals that Japanese expatriate managers brings sexist cultural values which discriminate against women in the host-country environment because a majority of local female employees are employed in lower hierarchical positions at the bottom of the organisational and managerial pyramid, whilst male employees occupied most of the professional and managerial positions at the top . Most extant studies of organizational ethical decision making have been remiss in doing one or more of the following: (a) building theoretical foundations; (b) encompassing the individual, contextual, and issue-specific determinants impacting ethical judgments; (c) offering testable hypotheses; and/or (d) establishing methodological rigor. This study confronted those challenges aiming to understand the decision intentions of top managers in the metal finishing industry concerning the treatment of hazardous wastewater. This study employed an extended version of Ajzen's (1988) theory of planned behavior. The authors examine the meaning of control in international joint ventures (IJVs) and the relationships of potential means of control in such organizations to the performance satisfaction of the foreign partner. They propose a conceptual model that provides both a traditional ownership-focused internalization perspective on those issues and an integrated approach combining a broader transaction cost interpretation of control with a resource input-based bargaining power model. This study assessed discrepancies between residential employees' work values and program directors' perceptions of the residential employees' work values. Additionally, work values of residential employees were analyzed to identify variations when considering gender, age, educational level, length of service, job classification, and current position. The study was undertaken to assist in developing a clearer understanding of the work values of residential employees for the purpose of enhancing administrator-associate relationships and to determine factors in the work setting that might contribute to longevity and more productive, satisfied, motivated employees.
