At long last the peculiar dance that has been the Orlando Magic coaching search has ended with the personable and hard-nosed Chuck Daly being named the new head coach of this team which is still in search of an identity. Whether or not Chuck can accomplish this formidable task remains to be seen, and if he can not, the explanation will be simple. He will be declared too old for the job.

Environmental Regulation And Firm-Level Innovation: The Moderating Effects Of Organizational And Individual-Level Variables, Carol M. Sanchez

Many analysts argue that environmental regulation is a barrier to innovation in business firms. A competing view holds that environmental regulation contributes to firm-level innovation. This article attempts to partially reconcile these two views. The article argues that organizational- and individual-level variables moderate the effect of environmental regulation generally on the radicalness of innovation at the firm level. It proposes that four moderating variables--the degree to which information analysis about environment issues is centralized, firm size, the intensity and integration of research and development (R&D) units within the firm, and whether regulation is perceived as an opportunity--change the sign of …

Financial data is compiled from financial statements and balance sheets, which are designed to meet legal and administrative requirements rather than economic analysis needs. The Finance and Accounts Department prepares the CBN accounting balance sheet data for the Research Department to compile the CBN analytical accounts. However, major revisions were made due to imprecise definitions, improper classification, inadequate sectorization, inaccuracies, irregular valuation procedures, and errors in data compilation on foreign assets. The Computer Services Department uses high-level computing to generate both summary and detailed analytical balance sheets based on the end-month BANKOS 302 of the CBN, Lagos branch. This thesis has explored the current issues of defense acquisition management in the Republic of China (ROC). The purpose of this research was to examine the managerial functions in defense acquisition systems and provide recommendations for further acquisition reform in the ROC. Using the exploratory case study approach, this research took a broad look at the ROC defense acquisition system by comparing it with the U.S. acquisition system. To analyze the difference, five functional indicators were selected. User satisfaction was measured as an indicator of the system's effectiveness. Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection

This paper addresses and integrates two issues. Its first premise is that training and development programs in most organizations are often poorly planned or randomly implemented, a condition which undermines much of the potential benefit these programs may offer. Secondly, the paper argues that the development and application of critical and creative thinking skills, traditionally applied only in educational settings, can also serve businesses in very important ways. Towards the integration of these two issues, a six-stage model is presented that can serve to coordinate the process of personnel development in organizations. With this issue we would have joined the world in watching Hong Kong, reknown as an entrepreneurial economy, move across the threshold to mainland Chinese control. In Hong Kong, entrepreneurship moves across a threshold to another environment the conditions of which may be different. There are opposing views whether the situation will be restrictive to entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurs operating in Hong Kong would have made alternative plans and strategies. Only time will tell how the events will unfold, suffice to be prepared for the transition is far better than not to have been.

Multi-Wavelength Infrared Imaging Computer Systems And Applications, Jun Li

This dissertation presents the development of three computer systems for multi-wavelength thermal imaging.

Two computer systems were developed for the multi-wavelength imaging pyrometers (M-WIPs) that yield non-contact temperature measurements by remotely sensing the surface of objects with unknown wavelength-dependent emissivity. These M-WIP computer systems represent the state-of-art development in remote temperature measurement system based on the multi-wavelength approach. The dissertation research includes M-WIP computer system integration, software development, performance evaluation, and also applications in monitoring and control of temperature distribution of silicon wafers in a rapid thermal process system.

In this dissertation, two channel access mechanisms providing fair and bandwidth efficient transmission on dual bus and dual ring networks with high bandwidth-latency product are proposed. In addition, two effective priority mechanisms are introduced to meet the throughput and delay requirements of the diverse arrays of applications that future high speed networks must support.

For dual bus architectures, the Buffer Insertion Bandwidth Balancing (BI_BWB) mechanism and the Preemptive priority Bandwidth Balancing (P_BI_BWB) mechanism are proposed. BI_BWB can significantly improve the delay performance of remote stations. It achieves that by providing each station with a shift register into which the station …

Evaluation Of Sale Forecasting Methods : A Case Study, Susan J. Canavan

This study investigated forecasting accuracy for sales. Three quantitative and one qualitative forecasting techniques were tested and two combinational models were generated and evaluated.

Three data sets, obtained from a market leader were used to forecast sales. The series represented monthly sales for three years. Three accuracy levels were employed in this study, these are: Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). Results indicated that the quantitative method outperformed the qualitative method; that combining two or more quantitative methods provide better forecasts than the individual methods; and that combining quantitative and qualitative …

On Sport and Society

I am not sure if it's the travel I've been doing with its cumulative jet lag, some new peculiar alignment of the planets associated with the recent departure from San Diego, or just a simple coincidence, but this past couple of weeks in sports world has left my head spinning. Not surprising is the fact that many of these developments have come out of Florida, a state that seems to be rivaling California these days as the off-center of the universe. One theory has it that it's all related to Disney or the rockets fired from Cape Canaveral.
