Expectation-Performance Gap: Professional Liability Associated With Certain Auditor Behaviors, Sidney Paul Glandon

Doctoral Dissertations

The purpose of this dissertation is threefold: (i) to establish hypotheses relating financial liability to certain auditor behaviors discussed in the independence literature, (ii) to empirically validate that the presence of these behaviors will increase auditor financial liability over the normal audit situation, and (iii) attempt to explain the differences in subjects' perceptions for each of the behavioral scenarios studied.

The Popular Dry Goods Company records, MS 317, made up of 296 boxes, 63 volumes of newspapers and 5 drawers of oversized materials, detail the officers, stores, finances, operations, and employees of El Paso’s largest locally-owned retail enterprise.

Author of an article on David Mamet's "Glengarry Glenn Ross," Alvarado is currently a doctoral student in the Department of English at Texas Tech University, where she teaches Studies in Dramatic Literature, and is researching the use of computers and the Internet as tools in teaching literature.

Presents data from a convenience sample of farms/ranches in Montana that operate recreation businesses. Specific data include agricultural demographic information (e.g., acreage and income), recreation business data (e.g., popularity of activities offered, reasons for operating a recreation business, obstacles), and marketing information (e.g., origin of guests).

The Impact Of Director Interlocks On Interorganizational Imitation In Germany, Elke Reuning-Elliot

Theses and Dissertations in Business Administration

In the 1980s, Germany saw a significant increase in the number of corporate acquisitions. This study deals with the role that director interlocks play in gathering and disseminating information about corporate acquisitions. Specifically, it explores the possibility that acquisitions may result from interorganizational imitation. Hypotheses that relate a German firm's acquisition activity with its own acquisitions and the acquisition history of interlocking firms are tested on 1982-1989 acquisition data for a sample of 193 German firms. The results from the negative binomial and logistic regression analyses indicate that there is no significant evidence for interorganizational imitation. Instead, the number of …

Finding Auditors Liable For Fraud: What The Jury Heard In The Phar Mor Case, David M. Cottrell, Steven M. Glover

The Phar Mor case involved a massive collusive fraud by management. Although there were no claims the auditors participated in the fraud, plaintiffs' attorneys were able to convince the jury that the firm was liable for fraud on the grounds it made representations recklessly with regard to GAAS and GAAP.

Twenty-five years ago Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 mandated that women not be discriminated against in any educational institution receiving federal funds. Although Title IX does not mention sport specifically it is clear that sport is one of those activities covered. When you see the hype being generated by the arrival of the WNBA, you might think that Title IX has been a major success. It has not.

Now that the Michael Jordan Invitational Tournament has ended it might be a good time to look at some of the highlights of both the NBA and NHL playoffs. Once again Michael set new standards of performance, and once again he proved how important he is to the Bulls' success. Twice during the finals he took games away from the Jazz, once with a buzzer-beater and once with a performance that has extended the Michael legend to another level.
