This study aims to examine how credit lending can improve MSEs performance, its impact on women micro and small entrepreneurs (PPMK) household welfare, and the determinants of their disinterest in subsidised loans. Using a sample of 82 PPMK households in Depok City and Bogor Regency with the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method, the results showed loans could boost business income. Still, the government’s credit with low-interest rates is not the primary choice due to limited knowledge, an obligation for collateral, and religious issues such as usury. This study also shows government credit assistance can improve the welfare of MSE households.

Investigating The Impact Of A Conditional Cash Transfer On Adolescent Pregnancy: Incidence And Health Outcomes, Mitzie Irene P. Conchada, Marites M. Tiongco, Dominque Hannah Sy

DLSU Business & Economics Review

The literature on conditional cash transfers focuses on the impact of such on health and education outcomes. The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the Philippines provides a cash grant conditional on requirements related to health and education. We investigated the impact of the program on adolescent pregnancy through its link to education. The program, which is designed to increase teen education, may lead to decreased adolescent pregnancy because it adds to the opportunity cost of getting pregnant. Though the incidence of pregnancy among adolescent women rates in the Philippines have declined over the past thirty years, a considerable number of …

We used the model of Fisher (2010) as the basis for the person-level dimensions, namely: (1) job satisfaction; (2) vigorous work engagement; (3) dispositional affect; and (4) flourishing at work. We investigated if job satisfaction would most significantly explain happiness in the workplace of the seafarers among all person-level dimensions. We also hypothesized that the bundle of person-level dimensions significantly influences happiness at work. We used descriptive and causal research designs and surveyed 229 randomly selected Filipino seafarers from one …

DLSU Business & Economics Review

Recent research shows that studying the traditional cost behavior within a firm may not be sufficient to fully understand the elements that influence management behavior. Studies have pinpointed a cost-related issue called “cost asymmetry,” which has gained the widespread name of “cost stickiness.” Researchers have explored factors that cause cost stickiness through three theories: adjustment cost theory, agency theory, and political process theory. This study seeks to determine the sticky cost behavior of three costs, namely cost of goods sold, selling, general and administrative expenses, and total cost of goods sold and selling, general and administrative expenses. It also aims …

Staff Matters: Independent Contractor Or Temporary Employee?, Jodi Schafer Sphr, Shrm-Scp

The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association

Determining whether temporary hygienists should be classified as independent contractors or employees requires careful consideration. While treating them as independent contractors offers advantages, such as avoiding payroll taxes and paperwork, it must align with specific IRS criteria. The classification hinges on the degree of control the practice exerts over their work, encompassing behavioral and financial control. If the practice significantly controls aspects like duties, hours, and business aspects, it may be wiser to classify them as employees. The IRS provides a form (SS-8) to assess the relationship in-depth. Additionally, if hygienists request employee status and you cannot definitively prove otherwise, …

In a recent case in Indiana, several large corporations voiced their dissent over the state’s impending religious freedom law, causing the Governor to sign a new version of the bill. The purpose of this paper is to determine how these …
