Enhancing Online Education Through Sentiment Analysis And Complex Systems Modelling, Helen Josephine V L, Sharad Gupta, Rosewine Joy, Manjari Sharma
Northeast Journal of Complex Systems (NEJCS)
This research explores the application of sentiment analysis through the lens of complex systems modelling to enhance the quality of online certification courses, with a particular focus on global platforms such as Coursera. The COVID-19 pandemic catalyzed significant growth in online learning, creating an urgent need for adaptive and student-centric approaches to ensure relevance and effectiveness. Leveraging unstructured textual data from student reviews of courses, this study integrates methodologies from systems science, computer science, and education to address real-world challenges in online education. By employing both lexicon-based (SentiWordNet and VADER) and supervised machine learning techniques (Multinomial Naive Bayes, Support Vector …

Exploring The Untapped Workforce Potential Of Employees With Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities In The Hotel Industry: Where To Start, Yoko Negoro, Sydney T. Pons, Thomas A. Little, Michael J. Tews, Donna Quadri-Felitti, Phillip M. Jolly
ICHRIE Research Reports
The hotel industry struggles with high employee turnover and labor shortages. Employing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (EIDD) offers a solution, providing benefits such as improved loyalty, reduced turnover, and greater workplace diversity. Successful integration of EIDD requires addressing challenges like communication barriers, stigma, and the need for tailored support. Key to success are job coaches, who provide on-the-job training, support, and communication between EIDD and supervisors. They also educate coworkers to foster a more inclusive environment. Hotels should implement structured onboarding, provide reasonable accommodations, and offer socialization opportunities to ensure long-term success. Regular job coaching, performance feedback, and …

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal
This scoping review examines the intersection of sports fandom and sports betting, with a particular focus on the marketing considerations involved in this relationship. Sports fandom, driven by strong emotional investments and team identification, plays a critical role in shaping betting behaviors. As this relationship becomes increasingly complex, it is essential to explore the underlying motivations and behaviors of sports fans who engage in betting, the ethical implications of marketing practices targeting this group, and the methodologies used to study this intersection. To address these relationships, this review examines four key areas: motivations for sports fans to engage in betting, …

Journal of Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics
In The Price: What It Takes to Win in College Football's Era of Chaos Armen Keteyian and John Talty have written the first comprehensive post-NIL examination of college football’s new landscape for coaches, athletes, agents, and athletic departments. The authors explore the newly disrupted landscape of college football, likening it to the "Wild West" where traditional structures have been upended. The authors detail the profound impact of recent upheavals, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the transfer portal, and name, image, and likeness (NIL), which have collectively struck the sport like a nuclear bomb, leaving coaches and administrators grappling with unprecedented challenges. …
