We examined the value orientation types of working adults in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras, Mexico and the United States. Respondents from Argentina, Brazil, and the US placed higher priority on personal and moral value orientation types; those in Colombia, Honduras and Mexico on personal and competences value orientation types. Respondents in Argentina, the US and males in Brazil shared a high personal and high moral value orientation type, while all respondents in Colombia, Honduras and Mexico shared high personal and high competence value orientation types. Finally, Brazilian females had a high social and high moral value orientation type. We discuss …

Companies in the learning industry are in the business-to-business marketplace and the companies focus on providing services to their customers. In service businesses delivering on the brand promise is aligned with the services employees deliver to customers. The learning industry was used to research whether a commitment to internal brand training impacts business performance. Two of the initial hypotheses were supported; a learning orientation increases commitment to internal brand training and internal brand training increases employee commitment to the brand. The third hypothesis, employee brand commitment improves business performance, was not supported. A re-specified model found.

Utilizing Lawrence Kohlberg's cognitive moral development theory as the guiding theory, the research undertaken sought to explore the moral decision-making process of emergency planners in the state of Florida. To assess the quantitative measurement for moral judgment, the research applied and used the Defining Issues Test (DIT) developed by James Rest (1979).

The research examined the relationship between education, gender, age, and ethics training against the moral maturity of Florida emergency planners. The fact that attendance has a positive effect on the performance of students has been studied by many researchers. This paper provides some evidence on the assumption that the subject of finance requires more teacher-student interaction than the subject of management. Thus attendance and academic performance has more strong relationship for finance than for management subjects. The 170 responses collected from students were analyzed through OLS technique. A stronger positive relationship of attendance and performance was found for Finance as compared to Management. Pakistan is an emerging economy and a modernizing workplace. This research surveyed 318 citizens, managers, and employees in Lahore and Islamabad to measure their Personal Business Ethics Scores (PBES) based on age and gender, as well as to see if face-to-face and online data collection processes make a difference in their level of ethical maturity. Furthermore, this study contributes to the theory of moral development. The results suggest that age is a significant factor in moral development as it leads to higher scores in moral maturity. A positive safety culture has been shown to contribute to a firm's ability to avoid or reduce the occurrence of occupational accidents and injuries. In American workplaces alone 3,582 people died and 5.1 million people were disabled in 2009 and the cost to corporate America was $169 billion and an additional productivity loss of 95 million work days. The economic cost to each American household is about $1,200. Firms that establish and maintain a positive safety culture are able to achieve a competitive advantage in the market.

Workplace Generations In Latin America: An Examination Of Value Similarities And Differences, Regina A. Greenwood, Edward Francis Murphy, Julia Teahen, Silvia Ines Monserrat, Sergio Madero, Jaime Ruiz-Gutierrez, Miguel Olivas-Lujan, Neusa Maria Santos, Arnel Onesimo

Our research explored intergenerational value similarities and differences between 4,301 working adults in the Latin American countries of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Honduras and Mexico. In doing so, we expand intergenerational value change theory and value theory by exploring value structures using Rokeach’s (1973) value orientation typology. Research results indicate that all generations from Argentina and Brazil shared similar High Personal and High Moral value orientation types and those from Colombia, Honduras and Mexico shared similar High Personal and High Competence value orientation types. We discuss the significance and implications for practitioners and managers, limitations and made suggestions for further research.

We examined the effect of immigrant and ethnic enclaves on the success of entrepreneurial ventures as measured by firm profits and viability. Data on entrepreneurs and their new firms were provided byt eh kauffman Foundation and covered the years 2004-2008. These firm-level data were linked to Census 2000 Summary Files 3 and 4 at the ZIP Code level of measurement, and were used to empirically investigate the effect of enclaves. Our use of a selection correction allowed us to ground our analysis in a casual framework. We found a statistically significant negative effect of immigrant representation in an area on …

This research links together disparate literature on family and nonfamily firms, large and small firms, and risk for small firms. The literature is not coherent in one theme: whether family firms operate with greater risk relative to nonfamily firms. Yet the literature finds performance advantage to family firms without an explanation of why family firms on average generate better accounting returns and values relative to nonfamily firms other than for reduced agency costs translated into value. The first essay examines two measures of risk--debt ratio and idiosyncratic risk--of small publicly held family firms relative to nonfamily firms to investigate differences …

More specifically, for products with different levels of involvement, the study assessed how effective different nonmonetary and monetary promotions are at retaining brand loyalty.
