Four reports were produced following the 1999 Missouri-Madison Recreation Survey administered by ITRR for PPL Montana from May 1999 through September 1999. The primary purpose of the study is to provide an update to the information from the 1994-95 study which was used for development of the comprehensive recreation management plan for the corridor. This report presents the results of the study.

Analysis of 1998 nonresident travel spending in Montana for the counties of Cascade, Custer, Flathead, Gallatin, Lewis and Clark, Missoula, Richland, Silver Bow and Yellowstone. Also includes analysis of spending in Great Falls, Miles City, Kalispell, Bozeman, Helena, Missoula, Sidney, Butte, and Billings. Data includes total spending, distribution of spending by sector, length of stay in Montana, per capita spending, and summer trip characteristics of visitor age, travel group type, accommodations used, and visitor origin for each geographical location.

Since before the end of the Cold War, terrorism acts have had major effects on tourism destinations. As a result, the 'shadowy, mobile, and unpredictable' forces of terrorism are becoming an unfortunate part of the travel and tourism landscape. Few can forget the explosion that killed three in Paris in 1986, the home-made pipe bomb in Tel Aviv in 1990, the November 1997 massacre of 58 tourists at Luxor's Temple of Hatshepsut in Egypt, and the Kenyan and Tanzanian US Embassy truck bombings killing 263 in August 1998. Since start of the Asian Economy crisis in 1997, most industries in Malaysia have been experiencing a difficult time. Tourism industry had to face several challenges such as currency fluctuations, negative media reports, stringent government policies, reduced market demands and global competition. The negative effects on the industry were compounded by the national economic slowdown, i.e., GDP contraction of 6.7 per cent in 1998. Tourist arrivals were also descended to a low of 5.5 million, compared to 6.2 million in 1997 (MATTA Annual Report 1998). Ecotourism has quickly become one of the most influential and prominent terms used within the tourism industry today. With its many obscure definitions ecotourism has also been used to support a great number of unsustainable tourist developments. This study examined whether ecotourism had the ability to ensure ecological and financial sustainability through increased public exposure and appreciation to an ecologically sensitive area. One place in which this notion is being put to the test is in Crystal Cave, a popular tourist destination inside Yanchep National Park, 50 kilometres north of Perth. The importance of knowledge management has been emphasized increasingly in recent literature. Knowledge has been regarded as the most important corporate asset in an organization (Nonaka and Takeuchi, 1995). But what is knowledge? According to Harris (1996), "when information is combined with context and experience, it becomes knowledge". Hence, knowledge is the integration of information, context, and experience (Ponelis and Fairer-Wessels, 1998). Examines the direct impact of visitor spending on Missoula County, Montana. The methodology explores the application of the Travel and Tourism Satellite Accounts (TTSA's) to county level economic information in an attempt to develop a simplified method of estimating visitor spending at the local level. For this study, visitor spending reflects both Montana residents who reside outside of Missoula County as well as nonresident visitors to Montana.
