Disbudding causes pain-related distress and behavioral changes in calves. Local anesthesia and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are effective for treating disbudding-related pain. Dairy producers play a key role in whether or not calves to be disbudded are properly medicated. Pain and distress related to disbudding of calves often remains untreated. Thus, we conducted this study to characterize perceptions and practices of dairy producers on disbudding and disbudding-related pain management. A questionnaire was sent to 1,000 randomly selected Finnish dairy producers (response rate: 45%). We solve the chance constrained optimization with convex feasible set through approximating the chance constraint by another convex smooth function. The approximation is based on the numerical properties of the Bernstein polynomial that is capable of effectively controlling the approximation error for both function value and gradient. Thus, we adopt a first-order algorithm to reach a satisfactory solution which is expected to be optimal. When the explicit expression of joint distribution is not available, we then use Monte Carlo approach to numerically evaluate the chance constraint to obtain an optimal solution by probability. This research compares results from laboratory experiments with predictions from theory for decisions made by competing suppliers. We consider a supply chain in which a single buyer outsources the manufacture of a commodity product to suppliers not on the basis of price, but rather on service. Three different criteria on which suppliers compete are evaluated: 1) a guaranteed specific inventory fill-rate, 2) guaranteed level of base-stock, and 3) a parameter optimizing the supply chain in the buyer’s favor. Our results show that in most cases, suppliers’ decisions are significantly different than the Nash equilibrium, meaning that they do not maximize …

In light of the decline in social acceptance of walking and biking to school, there is a critical need to examine issues impacting school transportation decisions and to identify strategies to promote healthier behavior. In urban areas with high volume freight corridors, factors affecting school walking decisions can be complicated by increased truck and rail traffic. This paper presents findings from a study of urban neighborhoods in a major southeastern city, including those that are adjacent to freight corridors. تهدف الدراسة الى تمييز الدور الذي يمارسه التمكين النفسي في السلوك الريادي . تضمن التمكين النفسي اربعة ابعاد هي : المقدرة، المعنى، الكفاءة الذاتية والاثر. تمثلت عينة الدراسة بـ (80) تدريسي في ثلاث كليات في جامعة المثنى . اظهرت نتائج الدراسة وجود مستوى جيد من التمكين النفسي المدرك من قبل عينة الدارسة في كل الكليات المبحوثة وكانت القيمة العليا للتأثير ، المقدرة ، المعنى والاستقلالية . السلوك الريادي ايضا بلغ مستوى عالي للمتوسط الحسابي . اما اهم الاستنتاجات التي توصلت لها الدراسة هو وجود تأثير مهم للتمكين النفسي على السلوك الريادي .

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the configurations of supply chain integration.

Design/methodology/approach – The authors use qualitative data from manufacturers shortlisted for the UK’s Manufacturing Excellence awards over three years. Detailed processes and policies of 68 manufacturers are analysed.

Findings – Process structure and product newness require different supply chain configurations, which change as products mature. Supply chain integration is dynamic, and the extent of collaboration between suppliers and customers will be different at different moments in time. The authors define and discuss four key supply chain configurations: customised; ramp-up; recurring; coordinated.

We develop a model to enable engineering professional services firms to improve the management of their competitive resources, i.e., skilled engineers, to be better able to respond to customer demand. The model was informed by semistructured interviews with senior executives from engineering, information technology (IT) services and technical consulting firms. As a result, we capture many of the complexities associated with the resource planning process in the professional engineering services sector. This article presents a case study of the acquisition of a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) system to replace an outdated telephone system at a Midwestern financial services company. In the Midwest retail office of ABC Financial Services, the old Private Branch Exchange (PBX) phone system was incapable of handling customer inquiries during the busy tax return season. The first part of dissertation tests whether the asymmetric price transmission exists for the unleaded gasoline price and the high speed diesel price in Thailand and then tests the hypothesis whether the government policy (the oil fund), the monopoly (the marketing margins), and the adjustment costs (the inventory) cause the price asymmetry.
