Why Supplier Development Works? A Knowledge-Management Perspective, Liang Chen

Supplier development (SD) has been intensively and increasingly used in practice and studied in academia. Many studies find that SD can generate operational, capability-based, attitudinal, and financial performance measures for both the supplying firm (supplier) and the buying firm (buyer), but very few studies systematically explain why SD yields supplier’s performance improvements and, in turn, buyer’s performance improvements. Using a meta-analysis approach, this dissertation finds that SD does lead to positive outcomes, but SD is found to have very weak or even negative relationship with performance improvements in some cases. We present in this paper a simulation-based approach to evaluate the risk associated with supply chain disruptions caused by failures in some supply chains nodes and measure the impact of such disruptions on supply chain key performance measures (KPIs) of interest. The proposed framework enables analysts and managers to repeatedly assess the risk to their supply chains based on various simulated scenarios and identify the most critical nodes whose disruption will have the highest impact on the KPIs of interest. In 2013, $300 billion was spent on SCIT by firms globally, an increase by 1.8% and 3.8% compared to 2012 and 2011, respectively. With such significant investments, firms face risks of eroded financial performance if SCIT does not perform as expected. يهدف البحث الى يفحص العلاقة بين توزيعات الارباح والقيمة السوقية للاسهم المدرجة في سوق العراق للاوراق المالية , ومدى تأثره بالقدرة الربحية والتدفق النقدي الحر والرافعة المالية . وقد تم فحص هذه العلاقة بأستخدام تحليل الانحدار المتعدد .تكونت عينة البحث من 42 شركة مساهمة مدرجة في سوق العراق للاوراق المالية موزعة على قطاعات المصارف والمالية والخدمات والصناعية خلال الفترة 2010-2014.اظهرت نتائج البحث وجود علاقة ذات دلالة احصائية بين الارباح الموزعة والقيمة السوقية للاسهم في القطاعات عينة البحث كما بينت نتائج البحث عدم وجود اثر للرافعة المالية على العلاقة بين الارباح الموزعة والقيمة السوقية للاسهم .

This dissertation includes three related papers to investigate different methods that can help transport providers improve their operational efficiency. The first paper models and measures the profit improvement trucking companies can achieve by collaborating with their clients to obtain advance load information (ALI). The core research method is to formulate a comprehensive and flexible mixed integer mathematical model and implement it in a dynamic rolling horizon context. For system dynamics simulation (SD) models, an estimation of statistical distributions for uncertain parameters is crucial. These distributions could be used for testing models sensitivity, quality of policies, and/or estimating confidence intervals for these parameters. Assumptions related to normality, independence and constant variation are often misapplied in dynamic simulation. Bootstrapping holds a considerable theoretical advantage when used with non-Gaussian data for estimating empirical distributions for unknown parameters. A firm’s raw material sourcing knowledge can be a strategic resource. This article explores how firms can capture and use this knowledge. It examines the sourcing experiences of four firms in four different countries in the automotive industry and identifies the raw material sourcing knowledge-related parameters. Synthesizing the findings from these case studies, it proposes the concept of the sourcing hub—a collaborative center involving the firm, its suppliers, and raw material suppliers—which can effectively capture and deploy the raw material sourcing knowledge for managing value in upstream sourcing.

This study evaluates patient classification for scheduling and sequencing appointments for patients differentiated by their mean and standard deviation of service times, no-show, and walk-in probabilities. Alternative appointment systems are tested through simulation using a universal Dome rule and some of the best traditional appointment rules in the literature. Our findings show that the universal Dome rule performs better in terms of reducing the total cost of patient’s waiting time, doctor’s idle time, and overtime, and its performance improves further with the right sequencing of patient groups. The purpose of this paper is to explore the interface between buyers and suppliers in the context of product innovation in an emerging economy. Specifically, it examines the strategic and tactical initiatives necessary to drive inter-organizational alignment and thus positive innovation outcomes. It also examines the impact of organizational characteristics on product innovation. تعد اينما وجدت الضريبة أداة مهمة من أدوات السياسة المالية وذلك كونها احد مصادر الإيرادات العامة للدولة التي تعتمد عليها في رسم سياستها المالية ومع توسع نطاق وأنواع الضرائب نتج عنه ظاهرة خطيرة سميت بالتهرب الضريبي وتساعد فاعلية اداء مراقبي الحسابات في الحد منها لذلك يهدف هذا البحث إلى توضيح أهمية دور مراقب الحسابات عند المصادقة على الحسابات الختامية المقدمة من قبل المكلفين (الأفراد والشركات) في الحد من ظاهرة التهرب الضريبي واختتم البحث بجملة من الاستنتاجات منها مساعدته في تفعيل دور مراقبي الحسابات من خلال الالتزام بمعايير التدقيق وقواعد السلوك المهني وتطبيق التشريعات والقوانين النافذة في الحد من التهرب الضريبي.

سعت الكثير من البلدان النامية إلى تطبيق سياسات الإستقرار الاقتصادي والتكييف الهيكلي المفروضة من صندوق النقد والبنك الدوليين خلال النصف الثاني من عقد الثمانينات من القرن الماضي ، من بينها سياسات تحرير التجارة الخارجية والانفتاح على اقتصاد السوق، سعياً منها لتحقيق جملة من الأهداف، منها زيادة معدلات النمو الاقتصادي وخفض معدلات التضخم وخفض العجز المالي في الموازنة العامة وخفض العجز في الحساب الجاري لميزان المدفوعات وخفض معدلات البطالة والمديونية الخارجية ، غير إن الواقع العملي أثبت أن تطبيق تلك السياسات قد أفضت إلى ظهور آثار اقتصادية واجتماعية سلبية على التنمية البشرية.
