Access to higher education for women has dramatically increased in the United States during the past 50 years. Female college graduates have reversed the figures and gone from being outnumbered by their male counterparts 3 to 2 in the 1970s, to now outnumbering male college graduates 3 to 2. Women also graduate from masters and doctoral programs at a higher rate than men.
However, increases in the number of women obtaining college and advanced degrees has not translated to comparable representation in faculty positions or leadership roles in higher education. This lack of women in leadership positions, as well as …

The Residential Design Studio and Construction Fundamentals classes toured Builder's First Source in Johnson City to learn about the construction process and materials and tour the showroom and lumber yard.
The Residential Design Studio traveled to High point, NC for the 2018 Furniture Market. They toured showrooms, met professionals, and shopped for their Studio project. Walking through the halls of the Capitol in Washington, D.C., Kira Weaver was on a mission.
As a fourth-year student at East Tennessee State University Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, she has learned that pharmacists can do so much more, and in a world of rising health care and drug costs, expanding the role of pharmacists might be a sure-fire way to dramatically cut the nation’s spending.

Dr. David Roane, from Ruston, Louisiana, joined Gatton College of Pharmacy in 2006 as the founding chair of the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His initial goals focused on hiring superior faculty and guiding the de novo development of the department. Previously, Dr. Roane served on faculty in the College of Pharmacy and chaired the Department of Biology as the DeGree endowed professor from 1989 to 2006 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Dr. David Stewart, from Roan Mountain, Tennessee, joined the faculty of the department of pharmacy practice in 2007. Prior to his appointment of Assistant Professor at ETSU he served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Stewart was promoted to Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice in 2012 and Professor in 2018. He also serves as Vice Chair for the Department of Pharmacy Practice, Residency Program Director for the college’s PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy Residency Program, and Post-graduate Training Coordinator for the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Mindy Herrin Jewelry & Metals professor currently has an article published about her work in this month's Nashville Arts Magazine. Herrin is concurrently exhibitng the work at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, Tennessee. Narrative Illusions: The Visions of Mindy Herrin will be on display through April 30, 2018. Herrin’s three-dimensional work incorporates realism, organic imagery, and found objects in imaginative ways. There is a trance-like quality to her figures, and sculptures laden with symbolism act like puzzles, leaving the viewer to decipher her vision.

Professor Emeritus Mike Smith is currently exhibiting photographs at the Tracey Morgan Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina. The exhibit will run through November 3, 2018. The Lost State of Frankland features a selection of images that span over a decade, including recent works, that are a continuation of his career-long exploration of the character and culture of East Tennessee. The age of data analytics requires "data scientists” across a wide range of business disciplines with deep knowledge of how to manage and analyze vast amounts of data to support decision-making. As a result, new analytical tools are being taught in the Management Information Systems (MIS) or business analytics (BA) programs to foster students’ development of this critical competency. Three waves of analytics tools are considered froman experiential perspective including how to introduce analytics to first-year business students using an advanced data analytics software package with multiple techniques and data flow interface. Faculty member Patricia Mink received the Suellen Wilkenson Best in Show award in the national juried exhibition Form, Not Function: Quilt Art at the Carnegie. The award was presented by the Carnegie Center for Art & History in New Albany, Indiana. The fiber work, entitled "Crazy" was initially produced as part of an ETSU Major RDC Research Grant.

Dr. Brian Cross Named Fulbright Scholar
Dr. Brian Cross, associate professor and vice-chair of pharmacy practice, is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship award that has taken him to Ireland. Cross is spending several months overseas working with faculty at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).
The focus of his work will be interprofessional education and teaching others how to best provide team-based care. Cross was among six ETSU faculty and administrators to visit Ireland and Scotland last spring, serving as consultants and collaborators in interprofessional health care practice and education.
