JOHNSON CITY (March 4, 2021) – Students in ninth or 10th grade at one of 14 area high schools who are interested in achieving their dream of attending and graduating from college may be eligible to apply for the Upward Bound program at East Tennessee State University.


Upward Bound is one of seven federally funded TRIO programs at ETSU targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities. JOHNSON CITY (March 3, 2021) –  East Tennessee State University will offer a minor in Nutrition beginning fall 2021 in order to meet a growing demand in the health care workforce and among its students.


The new minor will be housed in the ETSU College of Clinical and Rehabilitative Health Sciences (CCRHS). To complete the minor, students will take 18 credit hours with courses addressing topics such as community nutrition, nutrition in sports and health, communication in nutrition, and others.

The explosion of data coupled with firms’ desire to utilize it is driving rapid changes in the desired skillset for accounting and assurance professionals. Educational institutions are considering how to catch up to these requirements, while accreditors are also modifying standards to reflect changes in desired skillsets. We present evidence from two institutions’ efforts to update their courses to address contemporary skill requirements, accompanied by discussion from a Big 4 professional. We find that despite significant differences between the two institutions and their approaches, similar challenges were encountered, and similar feedback was obtained from students.
